I really doubt Apple would release an OS that is buggy and doesn't work. They're people, guys... they know that they're doing.

Seriously, this isn't Microsoft we're talking about.

...

I was going to put an emoticon, but nothing really expresses the proper feel. I'm looking for a nervous laugh.

 If Steve Jobs sneezed in public, there would be a 1000-post thread on MacRumors!

You heard it here first! Rumor has it that Steve Jobs has sneezed! ;)

There's precedent for the late announcement. However, it's been a while since they've waited this late to announce it. Oddly enough they last did this with 10.1 Puma, which more than few people have compared 10.6 Snow Leopard to.

I posted this is another thread:

Hmm my order still states September and I placed my pre-order a few minutes after the announcement for the 9.99 upgrade.

So what's the story with Apple not officially announcing the release on their website? They seem to continue selling Leopard 10.5.6 knowing that people will cry that they just purchased it.

And? What ever happened to buyers making a responsible purchase?

They also continued to sell Tiger up to and after Leopard was released.

Watch all the people who stay up all morning on the 28th for nothing. I'd say Apple has finished and mass producing disks now.

Those are all over the place, so anything could happen.

Well done Apple, for releasing a broken OS. If it's the last build us devs got our hands on then it's broken.

iTunes and Quicktime STILL Crash like buggery.
and there are some other bugs here and there.

No way is it final. This, in my opinion, is a rushed release. bad on Apple.

Prove they just don't give a **** like they use too.
The Magic of Apple has gone!!

I believe I've read that Mail is also buggy. The amazement of how they can 'fix, print, bundle and distribute/ship' everything within a two week window is turning into feelings of rush.

for those who have the prepared for shipment status, was your estimated ship date (on the order) Aug 28 or September?

I dunno, I've been using the dev builds for a while and have nary a crash or freeze. The biggest bug I saw that was when after your computer wakes from sleep the second display (at least through a DVI to Composite convertor) is black and white.

Other than that I'd say most of it is pretty stable.

You could at least wait until it is officially confirmed before you unleash your condemnation. :p

who cares anymore? snow leopard has failed to give us anything remotely exciting, such as failing to bring a new look or theme. It's pretty much a service pack equivalent at best. B-O-R-I-N-G.

I was going to wait until a 10.6.3 release to update but my Mac Pro has been ultra glitchy lately, which is when I do an erase and install to start fresh. I was just hoping to hold off a few more months - looks like I'm going to jump in at the start and pray the bugs are not too annoying.

They said it is a better Leopard. It is a transitional version; i.e. almost completely 64 bits, rewritten core stuff to cocoa (e.g. finder), new tech, dropped PPC support.

So stop whining for them only charging $29 for something that has to be done. Better them doing this as small steps instead of combining it with major changes.

I hate it when people call Snow Leopard a service pack, because it isn't. It brings 64-bit support, GCD, and Open CL and more. For only $29.

Been using it about a week. The speed improvements for everything from starting up, to joining networks, to backing up on time machine, to opening any of the core applications are all freaking awesome. I have to use Leopard at work, and snow leopard really makes leopard just feel tired. But it's true, the genie effect hasn't changed. So yes, I suppose it is a boring upgrade, unless you actually, you know, use your computer to do things as opposed to just minimizing/maximizing windows all day long.

Isn't Snow Leopard sold as an upgrade to Leopard? So don't you have to have Leopard first anyway?

Anyway, some people would prefer Leopard for their systems, just as some people still prefer Tiger.

This is great news!

I have a MBP sitting at the local FedEx station, just arrived from Shanghai!

Maybe it will have three SL restore disks?!?! Can't wait to see!

So? Leopard is required to install Snow Leopard.

No it isn't.

It is required for the $29 upgrade disk that most of us will be buying. It is not, however, required for the box set (i.e. full version).

I imagine they will keep selling leopard for some time after SL is released, mainly because it is the last version to support PPC processors. To outright dump Leopard when it will be the only OS they have still compatible with machines that may be as new as ~3 years old would be silly.
