nice to hear what sounds like the bare minimum of effort is being put into updating their pro notebooks. or perhaps even less than the bare minimum if they're just going to keep shipping a broken keyboard design. sigh.

8K editing on Macs already exists, so why not offer an 8K screen?
OK - I guess what I meant was that a 5K screen is great to work on - I love mine. What I don't want to have to do if I wanted to upgrade to the newer models is be forced to have to go with an 8K screen and the extra cost premium it will command - to me and many, many other users, it's a feature we'll never make proper use of; plus with the extra graphics power it will need to drive it, it would almost be like me buying a Mac Pro now just to use for InDesign and Illustrator. I think what we'd all like to see in an iMac would be Target Disk Mode back again and video input. The screen is too good JUST to be tied to its internals!

If I am gonna take the plunge for the iPad Pro with Face Id this year ! Apple promise me, you guys won't come out with the OLED Display iPad Pro until 2022 ! Will be too broke till then to buy a new one !

Curious, do you have AirPods?

I've found that it was the earbud/EarPod wire itself that causes them to fall out. The pull and tug of the wire was causing torsion on the stem and dislodging them from the ear. The wire had weight, then add motion plus gravity, and the tiny little things would come out easily.

I've had my AirPods for about 6 months, and not once have they fallen out. Running, walking, stairs, jumping, ... never fallen out. There's no weighty tug that encourages them to be pulled.

The great flaw with AirPods today is not with the AirPods themselves, it is with the device that feeds them audio!
Phone is not ideal because (at least if you're me) I don't carry my phone everywhere, specifically I don't carry it round the house. I drop it off somewhere (charging in the bedroom or whatever) and leave it there, while I move around other rooms, and this works just fine because the Watch handles notifications, and calls route to my iMac anyway.

So how about using the Watch for audio? Ah, well there's the problem, and the problem is that Apple STILL doesn't give a fsck about spoken word audio...
You CAN (painfully) transfer audiobooks to your Watch (in iTunes, mark them as Music not Audiobooks, but also as Remember Playback Position and Skip When Shuffling. Then transfer a playlist of such books to the Phone. Then transfer the playlist to the Watch. And it APPEARS (at first) that this works great. Your watch is always there, sound is great, controls are easy to access.

Problem is (like I said) Apple doesn't give a fsck about spoken word audio. So the Watch just IGNORES the "Remember Playback Position" setting. If your watch is rebooted (eg you install an OS update) it will just forget where you are in your audiobooks playlist, AND will forget where you were in a particular file. And since that stuff was not synced back to your phone or iTunes, you're left scrambling trying to figure out where you were. AND Watch provides no useful mechanism for random access into a file that could be an hour to many hours long...
Basically it's just not worth the hassle.

This could all be fixed so easily. But Eddie Cue apparently only cares about music and meeting Hollywood actresses, and couldn't even be bothered to delegate Spoken Word Audio to someone in Apple who DOES care.
(Back when I worked at Apple and complained about the iPod v1.0 not remembering where you were when listening to Spoken Word, after a reboot, that was fixed about three months after I reported the bug.
Meanwhile we're on watchOS 4.0 and this has STILL not been fixed. Yeah, I'm bitter, and yeah, I blame Eddie Cue.)

Are there any Cannon Lake processors expected besides the 5W Y-series?
From what I've heard, not anytime soon. The initial 10 nm Cannon Lake chips will be small (i.e. dual core with non Iris graphics) low power chips only, so only appropriate for the Macbook. The larger/higher power parts are rumored to perform better on the current 14 nm++ process than their (currently shipping in low volume) 10 nm process so Intel has much more tweaking to do...

I'd say there is basically no chance that Apple will reduced the price of the 12" MB by 38% within one year ($1299 to $799).
No, this is a separate model. I've known that this is part of the 'MacBook' lineup, and while I have had no confirmation on the screen size, a less expensive but larger model just doesn't fit into their lineup. As i've said for the past few months, a price cut is to be expected this year.
The 12" MacBook as it is now will go to $999 (or possible $1099). And by 'separate model' I don't mean a separate configuration (although that would make sense).

A user-upgradeable Mac mini would be an instant buy for me. I have two that are on their last legs. One can't get upgraded to Mojave, one is on the dev beta and runs perfect, but likely won't see another OS update after. Both have SSDs, a second HDD, and maxed out RAM. These were the perfect Macs for hobbyists and Apple chose to neuter the product and then neglect it.

Apple can show Mac users they are serious about the Mac by giving us a great Mac mini again. We already see where they are going with the iMac and notebook lines and many of us would choose to stay away from them if we could.

Where are they going?

Does anyone else dislike that all products will now be refreshed in September/October? It makes for a long year waiting on new products.
Well there's always the 9.7" iPad.

In all seriousness, the Mac refreshes were almost always scheduled for Fall this year for a variety of reasons. Not to mention, they needed to show dedication to the Mac, so even if some were ready/could be released earlier this year, releasing them all in a dedicated event would always be more impactful. Their representation from the media will also be significant, at the cost of a 'short term' period of the media bashing Apple for the situation with the Mac. Part of that is also a lack of research, but anyway i've gone off track.

Almost every product update this year is significant so I think it will be worth the wait.

they should just align the product line ...

iPhone*
iPhone X (entry with less storage to push upselling)
IPhone X Plus

*milk it as long as possible and get people who always want the latest and greatest out of principle to pay extra $$ (from a Customer point of view it is nothing I remotely agree with)

iPad (entry with less storage to push upselling)
iPad Pro

MacBook (entry with less storage to push upselling)
MacBook Pro

iMac
iMac Pro

Mac Mini
Mac Pro

I think the more likely scenario is they start offering Vega chips on a standard iMac with 5K display. I don't see the entire iMac product line going 8K. Likely just a 3rd tier of iMac that essentially replaces the iMac Pro once the Mac Pro is finally released.

I want an iMac with better cooling, a 6-core i7 processor, a good video card, and all flash NVME storage without an option for a traditional HD.

It'd be funny if all the Mac Mini got was a spec bump. As someone looking for a Mac mini, I'd sadly 51% consider it.

Why not just make the MacBook the low cost laptop? There’s already the MacBook Pro & MacBook, Why create a 3rd laptop? The MacBook Air is gonna be discontinued. Makes no sense anymore. The MacBook is slimmer and lighter than the Air. So why not just make the MacBook the low end laptop? Then have the iPads filling in the gap for low priced web surfing device? Makes sense to me.
The MacBook was obviously created in anticipation of 10 nm processors that would be faster & cooler - and would sell in higher volumes and thus lower prices - than what’s now available for Apple to use.

For that reason it’s time to give the MacBook a rest. It’s a lovely computer but horribly overpriced for what it is.

I just picked up the 27" iMac last weekend.... Seriously considering returning it and waiting a few months to see what's going to happen.
I wouldn't count on an iMac update happening in 2018.
[doublepost=1531338127][/doublepost]
I don’t want a display performance upgrade on an iMac, I want a bezel-less screen.
The existing model's bezels are fine.

lol, most of these are just fantasies that won't happen. We'll get some refreshed MacBooks and MacBook Pros along with the obligatory new iPhones/iPads, but that is about it.
Absolutely!

The rumors are processor updates (a given for the mini years ago).

Are the rumored new dimensions supposed to be for the larger faces/displays? Or width at bands? or...?

hi
these are diagonal screen dimensions.
for example, current 2017 model of iPhone X:
Height is 5.65 inches (143.6 MM)
But the screen dimension is 5.8-inch (diagonal)
thanks

Whatever, just hurry up with a new display in sizes 24, 27 and 32.

Just put computer and computer related products under a new subdivision or subcompany of Apple with a new leadership; NOT under Tim but next to Tim on the same level, mr Tim LOVES iOS products but it is amazing that he (and admittedly some other people in Apples upper management) doesn't realize that iOS products still need contents and apps and those are developed on Mac hardware, preferable fast and modern hardware with great accessories, none of which Apple has today......
Tim runs Apple. No one will be equal to him within Apple. They also won't split off any of their products into their own company. That would be useless.

[*]Mac mini - Kuo didn't have a lot of information to share on the Mac mini, but he says a processor upgrade is expected. The Mac mini has not been updated for more than 1,300 days, aka over 3 and a half years. It's not clear if additional upgrades will be included, such as a redesigned chassis, but at least some kind of refresh is on the horizon.

Can you imagine if the MacMini came with a top that is capable of charging your iphone and Watch...?
