Mac Mini Refresh, New Low-Cost Notebook, Apple Watches With Larger Displays and More Coming This Fall

That last item is a good point. Like the iPhone X getting taller but not really wider (in UI scale). I keep forgetting about that. This would mark the first aspect ratio change in the iPad ever! Finally. This will be great for users like me who like the smaller form factor but wish we had more room for toolbars and things in various pro apps.
Don't worry, I think there is absolutely no mention of it on any article covering the new iPads.
I think it will be a great change, and really makes sense given the iPads positioning and usage now. I do hope that given the extra RAM, they will allow 3 app split view which would allow for 4 apps on screen at once (1 floating window).

Until the lcd panel craps out and a new one costs as much as the whole machine. I’m in that boat. No more imacs for us after years of them.
Yeah, 27” 5K monitors can be expensive to repair, whether it’s an external monitor or inside an iMac. Not sure if that’s what you have (27” 5K)

So looking at your name, are you an actual Apple leaker? Often after an unveiling something seemed so obvious and we missed it and this feels like one of those things. Of course they would make it taller which explains the change in display size two years in a row. It’s like with the 10.5” they wanted to get it ready by bulking it up to the width they wanted and then they could just pump up the height for multitasking and minimizing the bezel. Then that still leaves them with enough bezel to hold it without activating the display accidentally all the time and to have Face ID without a notch. It’s brilliant.

Wish List:
iPhone SE2 - same form factor as SE1 just internals refreshed
iPad Pro - keep at least one model that has no face ID, a home button, and HP jack (or continuation of existing model)
Mac Mini - Keep form factor similar, make internals upgradeable again, and keep some legacy ports and HP jack

Please Please Me!!!!

I’m 99.999999% sure the iPad Pros released in the fall will have a “notch” for Face ID

here’s why

A. The developer previews of iOS 12 have already shown on current iPads that they’ve moved the time from the center to the right. No info appears in the top center on current iPads. Pretty good sign.

B. Uniformity with the iPhone X

C. It occurs to me that the notch is a way for Apple to still differentiate even the most simplistic black and white line drawing representations of their hardware. If there is no notch in the B&W icon of an iPad, it’s just a freaking square (rectangle, whatever)

D. It’s a very subtle reference to the “notch” in the Apple logo itself

A Mac mini rumor from Ming himself and only 18 pages? I’m stunned.

And so the Apple Watch Series 4... I’ll take it if it’s a little bigger. I didn’t pay an arm and a leg for any of my bands either, so I’ll be okay (not happy, but okay) if I have to get new bands. I’d prefer if my current bands would still fit, however.

Nothing new on iPad Pro or the iPhone... we’re nearly 2 months away from the keynote!

Ah OK, I didn't know that. Any reason why other than 'google is evil' which it definitely is.

I just don't see the point of it between the MacBook and MacBook Pro now. Give the MacBook a price cut and it's perfect. Personally I think Apple needs to streamline its' lineups.
There is no point anymore...I never owned MacBook Air, but I think it will be remembered as one of the Top 5 Macs in Apple History. However, I think it’s time has passed as all things do.

I am not a fan of the 12” MacBook, but that is entirely my opinion, because I know there are people who love it. However, I think replacing the 12” with a more standard 13.3” display and a slightly larger chassis should help in reducing costs, give it a larger battery and a less cramped keyboard.

I agree that Apple should streamline its lineup, I hope this is the first step and I also hope that Apple considers a 15” MacBook at some point as well for those who don’t want a Pro, but do want a larger screen. I think there is an opportunity there to make the lineup look a bit more differentiated and coherent.

So you can watch 4k videos on Youtube... ? You literally answered your own question. Some people are so resistant to change for no reason. If you have another browser that does everything Safari does and solves your problem, why not use it?

Though to be fair I dislike Chrome. I wholeheartedly recommend Firefox though.
Some of us prefer Safari. Additionally, your comment is short sighted in that Apple's position in this regard also affects 4K Apple TV. And those of us that would like to watch YouTube in 4K on our Apple built 4K box can't do so.

Finally, and on a related note, Apple's support for 4K content on it's 5K iMac is abysmal. Can't watch 4K on YouTube with its native browser. And also, can't watch 4K content from it's own iTunes app and stable of movies it rents and sells.

Apple and 4K---problematic relationship.

I hate to be the cynic book how is Apple going to hobble this new Mac mini.
It'll be the 2014 model with updated internals in TB3/USB type C connector in place of the TB 2 ports(s).

If the price is right, I will absolutely pick one up for my office at work.

I just teared up about hearing the Mini is being updated. Thank you Apple.
dude, you sound like a woman in an abusive relationship. Apple ****ed you long and hard. Don't thank them now that they've thought about stopping.

I had a Mac Mini before and it was VERY useful connecting to my TV in my apartment. Who uses monitors anymore unless you're at 4K/5K?! If TV's support this at a cheaper price from any manufacturer on both sides why use a monitor?! For 2yrs I've had 2 and still bought and sold each of them (2012 Mac Mini Core i5s) at same price. Peripherals I kept and still use (currently on this headless MBA 2011; to be repaired Friday).

Hardware or mobo issues ... easy light carrying on public commute or driving. iMac ... be very very careful not to hit a huge pothole transporting in a car to the nearest Apple store.

There is a LOT of variables users choose what works for them.
TV setups are nice, but one thing to note, TVs often compromise somewhere to make them not as good as computer monitors. Even if the pixel density is the same (usually TVs are way bigger), computer monitors are held to a higher standard for input lag and colors.

what if the k
None of this means squat to me if the current version of the butterfly keyboard is still used. Ability to type well and reliably trumps any and all other spec bumps for me.
eyboard were reliable but felt just as it does now? you wouldn't be happy, would you?

To be fair, the new Mac mini was almost certainly coming for how many years? :D

AW4 will be the same chassis size in order to maintain compatibility with bands. They‘ve thought this one through.

As for iPad and iPhone: I say YES!! Let us be actually surprised again at the keynote day, not months in advance!

There was a time when Apple was first to get the newest Intel CPUs before anybody. Now they are late by almost one year.

I am looking forward to seeing the Mac mini. I'm hoping it's powerful with an SSD drive...and smaller, maybe 1/4 the size of the current mini.

If it's the same size, then quite powerful.

I don't think, we will have SSD only setup. If expensive machine like iMac ships with 5400 RPM HDD, how can we expect SSD in a low cost Mac Mini?

Yes, but like Ming-Chi Kuo, I don't have all the details on everything. Information on the larger iPad Pro is particularly scarce, which may be why he doesn't mention any screen size increase for it. But at the same time, it's hard to believe he knows nothing of it and he doesn't report on everything he has straight away, with the most recent notable example being the 2018 Mac mini which I have been talking about for a while, and just the other day on the 'a new Mac mini is almost certainly coming' thread where everybody seems to have lost hope.
Anyway, I do remember seeing comments complaining about Apple increasing the size, and app scaling, when really none of that should be an issue this year. And without a notch, it does feel like Apples true vision for this new design approach, i'm sure the new Apple Watches will also. Especially with no intrusive navigation bar.
While we know a lot about it, it's still exciting so see what they do, especially on the software front.

Preach on...

If the Mini is even halfway decent, I am so buying it. There are still some of us that want our computer and monitor separate and can’t afford (or don’t want) the Pro.

You could easily build a Mac Mini that is both as powerful CPU-wise as my 2008 Mac Pro and is able to support 3 or 4 monitors (some laptops meet these requirements already). If you don't need a high-end discrete GPU or more than average RAM -- an updated Mac Mini would do the job.

After hard drives, the next most common failure for me -- is the monitor. I had a Mac Pro 2008, and during that time I must have gone through at least 5+ monitors (multi-monitor setup) and probably 15 hard drives. Hard drives are best suited in their own enclosure anyway - so hard drive expansion, not a big deal.

I bought 3 2009 model of Mac Mini which each served a specific single task purpose. They are reasonably easy to throw into a data center as well - lots of them.

8-core iMac with Intel's expected 9900K CPU and 120Hz display please :)

The latter probably isn't likely especially at 5K res though :(

Kind of sad to still see no Mac Pro rumours.
