iTunes files a copy of the mp3s so after doing what Gee said to do in the above quote you can go ahead and throw away the copy that you actually dragged to the iTunes icon.

Since this topic originally started with iTunes on Windows, I would like to warn that poster NOT to delete those files on the PC. iTunes imports the tracks if you drag the folder into the iTunes library window, but it does not copy them to the PC iTunes library.

You can safely delete the original files on the PC if you have enabled the "copy to iTunes folder when adding to library" function, which was disabled by default when I last installed iTunes on a PC. It is available under Edit>Preferences>Advanced (check box near the bottom).

Good point! It may be the same on the Mac. I had a heck of a time doing this just a couple of days ago. I kept thinking "It should copy the songs... why is it not doing it?" I looked in preferences and simply overlooked the box. I think it used to be checked by default and now it's not.

mini w/ 7200rpm drive success!!

ok, so my custom built-to-order Mini arrived yesterday morning (1.4GHz, Superdrive, BT)... I cranked her up just to make sure it worked ok out of the box... then I cracked the case (thank you ACE Hardware for the putty knife) and installed my 1GB RAM and Hitachi 7200rpm HDD. When I started up OS X Install disc it didn't see the new drive, crap!! Then I went into Disk First Aid (or whatever it's called) and it showed the drive and I formatted and mounted the volume.. after this I was able to install OS X!! Works great, and it doesn't seem to be any louder than the 4200 drives. Also noticed the fan comes on high setting quite often after the new drive and it makes a LOT of noise when running. It usually runs for less than 5 min. so it's no biggie.

As jameskk noted, putting a faster drive into a mini will cause the thermal load to be higher which is what causes the fan to respond. Be sure you do not exceed the Mini's max power budget.
