If it's to stay at current prices, I expect Apple may simply put a GMA X3100 in the Mini, & add a few other nominal updates. IMO, there's unlikely to be any seismic changes to this model.
Personally, I'd love them to add at least a 9400 Nvidia in there & add other (even better) graphics options, without increasing the price too much; but that's unrealistic. If Apple give it major updates, I expect the price will reflect this & rise significantly. Either way, some people will be left disappointed.
Good points. Perhaps they'll pull a "MacBook" and have a low-end Mini on Santa Rosa and high-end(s) on 9400m.
I don't know.. I think they will do a complete mac mini overhaul, making it slimmer, aluminum, lighter and extremely fast. With more memory and all.. it will be a beautiful thing. The apple logo on it will light up in the dark.. it will also be so small. I cannot wait.

Kind of ironic if they kill the mini while other manufacturers are starting to make there own mini computers.
Agreed. There's enough price differentiation between the 2 Minis to do just that without massively compromising profits.
If we could get even just ONE new Mac mini, it would be neat.
I really believe that Apple will use just one platform for it and I don't believe that the nvidia 9400m is that much more expensive than a X3100/X4500 one. The price increase on the new MB is probably due to the unibody enclosure (irrelevent for the Mac mini) and the LED-BL display (irrelevant as well).
I believe they can update the Mac mini to the new MB specs for the current prices (but that could mean without firewire...)
$599, 2.00GHz, 2GB RAM, 160GB HDD, Superdrive, 9400m IGP
$799, 2.40GHz, 2GB RAM, 250GB HDD, Superdrive, 9400m IGP
and they probably could go all the way to:
$999, 2.53GHz, 2GB RAM, 320GB HDD, Superdrive, 9400m IGP
if they wanted to (and depending on what will be the specs of the next iMacs).
But I wouldn't mind paying a little more and get a MBP-type motherboard (including FW800 and an Expresscard slot) but still with the 9400m IGP:
$699, 2.00GHz, 2GB RAM, 160GB HDD, Superdrive, 9400m IGP, FW800, EC
$899, 2.40GHz, 2GB RAM, 250GB HDD, Superdrive, 9400m IGP, FW800, EC
Apple could update the design of the enclosure anyway so that it could look like a "folded" MB/MBP without the battery (7.7"x7.7"x1.4"):
- motherboard/ports and probably the HDD on the 1st "floor".
- superdrive and some open volume (air flow) on the upper "floor".
- powered by a MBP-type power supply (85W) or the new 24" LED-BL display (magsafe + locking adapter).
A $800 and $900 desktop with out a video card with it's own ram? Apple is just asking for pystar to beat them.
so a $800+ desktop should have on board video and only 1 display? with no slot to add a better video card.Just shup up with your dedicated vram and psystar, not everybody needs dedicated gpus, the Mac mini is a MINI desktop it's not a mid-range tower desktop system, what do you want to do with your Mac mini: Quad SLI?
FWIW, psystar have beaten themselves, they're just about to close doors, it's a question of months (if not weeks).![]()

It's the price that is why it's needed on board video is ok at $500.
I'll be going with the updated i Mac released at the same time, and I am hoping for QUAD CORE!!![]()
I think there's a chance for quad-core in the upcoming iMacs but it will be a very expensive option, and you won't see real performance benefits until Snow Leopard comes out anyway.
I just want an Apple TV and Mac Mini hybrid with DVR capabilities and wow I'll be one happy camper.
