I'd really like that... I think Intel's recent CPU announcements indicate the hardware is available, if Apple wants to use it.

I'm crossing my fingers since Intel's recent announcements :apple: Come on apple, do it MBA-style....we want the latest intel cpus and we want to be ready for multi-core snowy wonders later this year...

My iMac just died (system board problems for a year or so now), so I'm really hoping we see a powerful new Mac Mini announced and in stores on Tuesday. If so, I know where I'll be driving after work... :D

Why are people constantly assuming and demanding that the new ACD is for the entire Mac line? It says it is made specifically for the Macbooks, what is so hard to understand? Would you really want a Magsafe power cord on a desktop? If they are going to upgrade the entire line with DisplayPort then they are going to bring out new screens to accommodate that.

A nice 20-23" screen to go with the new Mac Mini would be sweet, here's hoping.

So you think Apple will have a different line of displays for each computer?

Fine by me. I expect it on the mini.

i think your design idea fits...thought i'd help you out and put it next to a ACD

So a Mini and that monitor together would cost what? $1500 ?

top end 20" iMac is $1500
low end 24" iMac is 1800

Wouldnt those be better choices than a mini with the new LED? The mini won't have nearly as much juice as those iMacs.

Makes no sense to me. Even if they released a 20" LED, it would still be alot.

Some of us dislike all-in-ones so it would make a lot of sense.

Personally, I don't like glassy displays so I wouldn't get either the new LED display or an iMac.

Well for one, Many people already have a monitor that they like and wish to use and have no interest in buying another.

Secondly it kinda flies in the users face when Apple states, " Bring your own Keybd, Mouse and Monitor"!

Lastly, it adds significantly to the costs. Especially when one would consider as you suggest to buy a new Apple screen.

The whole concept of the mac-mini was for the user to bring their own stuff!

Great way for many to be able to afford a Mac. Add an Apple Monitor and poof that blows that. Then there's the approximately 48% that do not want Glossy screens and that seems to be all Apple will be supplying! ;)

if optical drives are completely optional on the new Mac Mini, could they be readying a blu-ray option?

I'd like them to, but I can't see that being where they add it first.

Maybe a nice "We're on board blu-ray 100%, and all models will have a BTO Blu-Ray drive other then the MacBook Pro 17'' which will be shipping with it standard."

.....seems unlikely, but I'd like to be able to rip my Blu-Ray disks without buying an external one!

Yea, but the mini is almost like an all-in-one. What the hell you gonna be able to really modify other than changing the monitor.

Well I've upgraded the RAM went I first got it, and recently my HDD died, and I put in a 320GB HDD....wasn't to hard.

But I see the Mac Mini as much more upgradable then the current iMac, if I recall they made the iMac harder to get into right?(my last iMac was a Rev A machine, which was actually fairly easy to get into)

I know CPU, RAM and HDD are all quite do able, plus the monitor.

This is my idea Mac mini.

<pic of mac mini mock up>

EPIC.
This are exactly the specs I'm hoping for.
Wonderful design too. It's like you were inside my head!
Although, it's most likely to be shipped with Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard.

why would you need quad core in the mac mini? as i understand it, the rest of the parts are holding back the raw processing power, aka the laptop drives and the 2gb instead of 4gb.

Isn't that enough? Monitors last for years and years. Computers, generally are replaced more frequently.

There are people who like component stereo systems and others who like boom boxes. Same goes for computer systems.

finally a redesigned mac mini

ive been reading and reading to see if they would redesign the mac mini or even make it extinct. so happy they decided to keep it.. =)

The current Mac Mini can support 4GBs(last time I looked, but Apple doesn't officially say it can). And you could put in a 7200RPM 2.5'' HDD. Or with the redesign we could see a 3.5'' HDD inside.

Either way, I'd like the choice!

True, true.
Also, we will most likely not see a quad core Mac Mini anytime soon due to what it's made for and the exact reason you stated above.
Hell, we don't even have a quad core iMac (yet).

i could but i'm not certain that apple would give me the options. i still maintain that a mini-tower would be the best. wouldn't you like to have the option of 2x 3.5'' HDD??

I upgraded the RAM to 2GB for $40, rather than pay Apple $300 for that. Last week I added a 320 GB to it. A faster processor is an option, as well as wireless-n.

This has to be one of the longest waits for a update ever!! I was waiting for an update but decided to buy the current one. That was a year ago now and i've loved my little mini :)

It was my first :apple: (sniff)

haha, oh yes!

Well I'm not 100% sure I'd buy the Mini tower(depends on price), but would deftly be on my radar.
