There are multiple variants of Nehalem. Some are coming in late 2008, others are coming in Q3 2009. The notebook variants are coming in Q3 2009.

And it has been said that mobile Nehalem will be on a 32 nm process instead of the previously thought 45 nm process. Although I think that's doubtful, it could be a very big thing, enabling quad-core chips at similar clock speeds and TDPs as current midrange dual-core chips.

I hadn't thought of the time needed to perfect them for laptops. I also hadn't considered the time for Apple to decide to adopt them, and then actually adopt them (or not! lol)

has anyone checked out this article by appleinsider?

nothing too shocking, just says for the ipod he expects a pricing capacity change on the ipod nano and shuffle and a redesign of the touch.

he also says he expects "new industrial designs for both the macbook and macbook pro." consistent with the leaked macbook case rumor?

That's awesome!
This seems to share a lot of the same stuff we've been talking about.
I am really glad to see it mentions the iPod Touch being lowered to $199.

It makes sense, they probably want to make the touch their mainstream model over the classic. It'll get people introduced to it and thinking about an iPhone.

Do you think they'd have the new gear available for purchase immediately? or would it take a few weeks to transition into stores?... Cause really, I'm waiting beyond the start of school as is.

Conversely, the iPod touch is likely to see a redesign "and a new $199 price point, in line with the iPhone."
It would make sense that the iPod touch would start to resemble the iPhone. A $199 price point would also imply the continuation of the 8 GB version. But the weird thing would be that while there would be a $50 difference between the 8 GB and 16 GB iPod nano, there would be a $100 difference between the 8 GB and 16 GB iPod touch.

Together with capacity bumped iPod nanos, this would mean that the nano and touch would have the same capacities (with the exception of the 32 GB touch).

Piper Jaffray's Gene Munster does not say that the iPod nano will go touchscreen, which probably means he doesn't want to take a leap of faith there.

AppleInsider said:
"Currently, these gestures require the same touch-sensing technology used in the iPhone, but they use a traditional looking trackpad," the analyst told clients. "Eventually, we expect Apple to change the trackpad to backlit color screens for a more dynamic user interface on the Mac."
Glass trackpad anyone? That's right. Glass implies some sort of display.

They waited 518 days to update last time. They don't care.

To be fair, Harpertown was not launched until November 11, 2007 and made it's introduction in the Mac Pro on January 8, 2008 which is a period of roughly 60 days.

Intel was the one that decided to wait almost 17 months (~510 days) between the launch of Woodcrest (06/06) and Harpertown (11/07). And Apple adopted Woodcrest (08/06) within six weeks of it's launch (06/06)

The largest delay was the adoption of Cloverton - Intel launched it in November of 2006 and Apple adopted it in April of 2007 - five months.

I've been waiting since the end of 2007 for the new re-designed Macbook Pro's so I don't mind waiting.... lol

but I hope they don't change the logo on back of the screen...i like how it is now.

surprises might be.....touch screen...but then....a matte screen would make no sense...cause it would be hell to clean versus a glass glossy screen.

I don't think they could change it. The white shining logo is such a brand image that they would make a big mistake trying to do something new.

Apple could have updated the rest of the specs with Clovertown, but they didn't.
