wouldn't 10.4.9.1 or 10.4.9b make more sense? 10.4.10 = 10.4.1

oh well, they can call it whatever they want as long as it makes the OS better.

Is this really that hard for people to grasp, ITS NOT A DECIMAL

Maybe that will slow my iMac fans to less than 10m rpm.

And guzhogi, less preoccupation on numbering systems and more on the opposite sex and you might get your MILF ;)

What the freak is a MILF... and after seeing what Brittany's life is like... I wouldn't want one with her...

Besides... I am allergic to ignorant people. :D

All jokes aside (since I did not get the chance to make them) I hope this is a secure update. I just went back to 10.4.8 because DVD Player in 10.4.9 would not play DVD-R's that played fine under 10.4.8 and Joost would not work either. Now both problems are cleared up. I like updates but only if they work.

THE SKY IS FALLING!!! THE SKY IS FALLING!!! THE SKY IS FALLING!!! QUICK EVERYONE RUN IT'S THE END OF THE WORLD!!!

I wonder how long it will take someone to seriously post that it should be 10.5.0

Boy, you make one Chicken Little post and everyone picks up on it...

I can't find another earlier post I made, but it was in the thread when the 10.5 delay was announced, and I called it then - Apple would release a 10.4.10 and people's heads would explode.

For your own safety and for the safety of the people shoulder surfing, please stop reading this thread.
;)

I can't believe this thread. Why wouldn't they go to 10.4.10, and have they ever said they wouldn't?
As long as they fix problems and release updates, does it matter?

If they'd stopped patching a system because some people think that those '.'s are decimal points and didn't want to hurt their sense of numbering I would be well hacked off.

Maybe Apple will change to 10.4-10 in place of 10.4.10 in order to resolve the issues in this thread. :)

I personally believe that there are two reasons for 10.4-10. The first is to address issues that have come to apple's attention (via users clearly advising them of a problem) and, just as important to allow for new hardware releases.

My bet is that any new hardware (MBP, iMac or even MP) would have been designed to use leopard from Day One. That might mean there needs to be some additional code in Tiger in order for the new hardware to work as designed. (I would have liked to have included the Mac mini in the above hardware list, but I'm a realist!)

If the above is correct then you can look for new hardware as soon as 10.4-10 is released.

Mother, I'd like to ****.

Q. While I'm thinking about it... what starts with an f and ends in uck?

A. Firetruck. you dirty minded b******s.

P.S. Mods, feel free to delete my post if firetrucks are deemed to be too offensive.
P.P.S. This was just pointless since someone already got to answering what a MILF is.

10.4.10

major version . minor version . incremental

many open source projects even go so far as to have stable versions have an even minor version and unstable/testing versions have an odd minor version.

this is a SOP(standard operating proceedure) type of numbering system for software development.

Hahahahahahahahaha!

I want to see a lot of people eating crow!

You smarmy know-it-alls that *knew* Apple would never release a .10, and argued so vociferously, and at such great lenghth that it would never happen, probably all feel pretty dumb right now.

I'm just happy that (if it's true) this'll put an end to all the damn arguing for good.

You mean that 10.0, 10.1, and 10.2 can't read universal binaries?

I think don't work , quote from http://developer.apple.com/documentation/DeveloperTools/Conceptual/cross_development/UniversalBinaries/chapter_4_section_1.html

C++ or Objective-C++ code built with GCC 4.0 does not run on versions of Mac OS X prior to Mac OS X v10.3.9.
...
you can require Mac OS X 10.3.9 or later (10.3.0 or later if you do not have C++ or Objective-C++ code)

As someone who has a degree in Math, let me please ask you to be more careful what you say! "Infinity" cannot be used as a number! Apple can, however reach "Lim(n -> Infinity) 10.4.n"

Plus if you wanted to truly go beyond the scope of the human imagination, you would say 10.4.[Power Set of Infinity] or better yet, the Infinitieth Power Set of Infinity.

For those of you unfamiliar with the power set, let me describe it as such:

A Simple Infinity is, for example, the set of integers... (1, 2, 7, -14, 42, etc.) and there are an infinite number of them. These are also known as a "Countable Infinity" because, as the name suggests, you can count them. The Power Set of Infitity is almost like a deeper dimension of Infinity. This is akin to the set of real numbers... (Pi, e, -14, 10.4, etc.) but between any two real numbers exists infinitely many more real numbers. For this reason, there are uncountably many real numbers. The Power Set of the Power Set of Infinity would then be a 2-dimensional Real Number system, where two points are separated by infinitely many real numbers in the 'x' direction and the 'y' direction.

Carry on with this until you reach the infinitieth Power Set of Infinity and you've successfully blown the minds of any who attempt to comprehend its magnitude.

...Sorry...

I had to offset the Britney Spears comments somehow...

You swung us too far back in the other direction, so I must present you with the site that one of my former co-workers made into my home page one day in revenge for my changing his wallpaper to a screenshot of his desktop and moving all the actual folders and other docs from his desktop to a hidden folder.

Britney really is smart...or something...

Well, last time I checked, 1 = 1 and 10 = 10

Just to avoid confusion, maybe Apple should change to another format.

Binary 1010.100.1010
Ternary 101.11.101
Quintal 20.4.20
Octal 12.4.12
Hex A.4.A

Of course Hex is the only real choice so people won't get confused with those pesky trailing zero's.

Just a thought,
j
