10.2.8 (SE) and FireWire

Since the update of the 'new' 10.2.8 i have serieus firewire issues. To check if it was the external HDs or the G4 I hooked it up to an different G4 and it works fine there. Never had problems with the Firewire HDs before.
It just doesn't mount. And when it does it falls of the desktop after a few minutes with a warning to follow. Help? mattnh@zonnet.nl

arghh

I decided to update my 1GHz 17" iMac from 10.2.3 to 10.2.8. I downloaded the combo updater and installed. I restarted and 2 seconds into the restart, grey screen - you must restart your computer. shut down your computer and restart. I did this, and still the same message. Again and again I try in agony. I reinstall 10.2.3 and now my applications cannot be opened. The icons are all still there, but "folders are missing". So, I reinstall applications and programs. I run disk doctor and find major allocation problems. Arghh. I start up computer using norton disk and fix problems. I restart computer and am running, but some of my apps that I just reinstalled are "missing folders" again. Arghhh. I call up Apple, no resolution other than to reinstall apps again and hope for the best - or even better complete erase of system and reinstall.
