Just when I thought I was getting away from all the nonsense. This sounds more and more like a Windblows users daily life. "Just reboot and it'll be fine"

Sorry, had to introduce the humor though it's really not that funny :D

Same here - 3 Macs, no problem (Power Mac G3 266mhz [beige], Power Mac G4 733mhz [Quicksilver], and iBook 500mhz). Installed the updates around 8:00 this morning (Eastern).

The two G3s were noticeably faster on the first startup. The G4 seemed slower on first boot, but after a permissions repair and another reboot it seems about the same as before the update.

Lots of people are complaining about the battery life on portables. This morning, after the update, my iBook kept telling me I had only an hour or two of life left at full charge. But I went to class like usual this morning and it ran just as long as it has been lately (the computer is almost 2 years old, so battery life is a bit shorter than when I first got it).

Sleeping it when Professors go off on useless tangents (like I usually do) kept me running through 2 and a half classes this morning. That's about the norm for my little iBook.

I'm going to go count my blessings. I had no trouble with this update. Thank goodness.

iMac 800 Mhz G4 17-inch

My ethernet died briefly, but I've been having tons of problems with my home network, so it probably wasn't the update. Also, my startup times are significanly improved on my PowerMac G4.

i reset the power manager on my 12" iBook (800) and when it first started up it said 3:30 something (the battery wasn't fully charged) and then I closed the lid and then opened it in class and ta da, back to the weird 10.2.8 battery issue....

close, but no cigar

dang my battery life went down about 30 mins!!!!! NOOOOOOO!!!!!!! so instead of 2:00 to 2:10, its at 1:40!!!!! i'm gonna time it and see how long it takes for the battery to go out.... i'll post again, but so far i'm not happy at all

ok its been about 2 hours and i have 23% left on my powerbook 12" (867) and i've noticed, that my computer doesn't heat up as much..... has any1 else noticed this with a powerbook 12"?

Installed 10.2.8, had some interesting changes to my system:

Everything looked "grainy." windows, etc. Checked displays and colors had been changed from millions to thousands. A quick switch back resolved the problem.

Also had issues with desktop icons/they were outlined with a thick black line. Resolved with 2d reboot.

System: 800mhz imac

M-Audio has published updated drivers

M-Audio has published updated drivers for its Revolution PCI audio card.

I haven't been able to try them out myself, but I thought I would let others know-

10.2.8

I have a 600mhz, 640 mb, iBook.

I've noticed improved menu responsiveness for AW, and improved browsing on ebay after installing the 10.2.8 update.

Nothing was lost as far as my system setting go. But, There is no noticable improvement in the way Office:mac works.

Some of my cookies seems to have been eaten.

I connect throug a KVM at work to an old Nobilis 1770A display, at home I use a 19" ViewSonic VP191b through a N5 video processor.

reverted back to 10.2.6

Man feels like my battery is dead doesn't even charge. Just sit here and wait for a 2.8 fix. :( Now I am just cloning my desktop to my PB. I've done everything there is to do.....reset the NVram, fresh install to 10.2.3 then update to 10.2.6 etc. GUTTED!! What a way to spend the day off. However Desktop Dual 500 works fine.

My recent items menu won't show any recent items...It's preferences were changed by the update to show none and if I change them they still don't show any and when I log out it changes the preferences back to none.

Also I can no longer move items with my mouse...I'm on an ibook...neither the inbuilt nor external mouse will move items.

Any ideas on how to fix it?

EDIT: just to clarify the mouse issue...it will move windows but not icons on the desktop, in the dock or files in a finder window.

Repair permissions, maybe? Try a restart after that... I would also check and see if your HD is on the fritz.

It turns out it was an issue with the /System/Library/CoreServices/coreservicesd file...which I replaced with a copy from another computer and now all is well.

Which version of 10.2.8 you got?

Apart from that battery problem, right?
I don't believe that the actual battery charge can be physically affected by the OS update. However, the battery monitor might need to be recalibrated. You need to charge it to the full (until the light on the power plug goes green) and then let it discharge to the full (when the comp goes to sleep on its own because there is not enough power for it to keep running). While it's asleep on low battery, plug the power cord back in and charge it to the full.

Let's see how that works...

I didn't believe that an update could affect the battery, until I took my laptop out. It was flat as soon as I open it on the road. This was soon as I updated it to the first version of 10.2.8, my girlfriend reported that she wasnt getting more than an hour from her 867 Alubook and also my friend from his Ti. Looked around on the net and found people with similar problems. Then as soon as 10.2.8 revision came about everything was fixed. I started to panic cause I thought my battery had died. But everything is fine now. But in the 10.2.8 revision they mention about battery problems being fixed....
