kernel panic after 10.3.7 update! yikes!
Hi people,
Looks like I'm in the unlucky minority, but 10.3.7 caused a severe case of indigestion in my powerbook (15" 1.25 ghz). About a week after I installed it, I was greeted with a kernel panic. Upon restart, another kernel panic.
After backing up all my stuff using firewire target disk mode, and trying lots of miscellaneous things to fix it, I finally did the archive and install option to reinstall Panther. The computer was back to normal, almost: now, my airport card isn't showing up. The little airport menu says "no airport card installed".
I then went through software update and installed about 10 different updates, including 10.3.7 again. And lo and behold, we're back to kernel panics!
So again, I did another archive and install, and have been slowly going through the 10 updates one by one. So far, the first five are OK- no more kernel panics. I'm going to try installing all of them except 10.3.7 this time, and use the combined 10.3.6 installer instead and see what happens.
So, it isn't definite yet (and won't be unless I try 10.3.7 again just to confirm it), but it looks increasingly likely that 10.3.7 was the cause. I don't know how it blanked out my airport card either. Has anyone else seen any reports of this anywhere? I haven't seen too many complaints on this forum.
