MDD Audio Issue

10.3.7 has not fixed the MDD audio issue. Has anyone else noticed the audio problem? Going back to the 10.3.5 Apple02Audio.kext fix...

G4/400/AGP and the verdict is?

Doesn't really seem snappier as many have said - but this is an old machine. It doesn't seem slower either. The one thing though is that NOW I can set my monitor to a great resolution (1600x1200) and that wasn't possible previously.

FYI I've been running at that res for quite a few updates, nothing new I'm afraid.

Diablo II still fubar

10.3.7 did not fix the major Diablo slowdown. Still have to run in software mode instead of OpenGL mode.....sigh

Well, I messed up, the installation was interrupted while it was optimizing the hd, so I restarted the installation. Now, all my pics are gone and the pictures folder can’t be accessed. Can I still get back my pics or am I screwed?

I also repaired the disk permissions. Any thoughts?

Wireless Printing

I can no longer print wirelessly using airport express.
Any Suggestions?

PB 15" 1.5 Ghz

Have you done as the others and run repair permissions. Then do a reboot. You could also try Tech Tools or some other utilities program that your are using.

Mac OS 10.3.7 Slowdown

Is ANYone else experiencing very slow boot-ups with 10.3.7?

It's literally something like 5 minutes to boot up.

I'm on a Dual 1.42 G4.

Thanks.

Notable visual change in 10.3.7 bootup.

I should clarify, as well, that during this slow bootup, the Dock opens first, then, only the text of the menu clock appears (no text on the left end of the menu strip) with the sound icon but no Menu strip itself... until minutes later.

Oh, Man!

 The update killed my help system. Everytime I try to launch help it crashes. What's this Windows?

Very few people have reported problems, so why so many neagtive votes?
1. No OS will ever be completely free of all problems.

2. Therefore Mac OS is not completely free of all problems.

3. Therefore Mac OS has just as many problems as Windows.

(I don't get it either :D But there you go!)

OK, all backed up... Now I'm taking the plunge...

I dunno about you guys, but I noticed that scrolling up and down in Safari (especially using the mouse wheel) is a ton smoother after this update. Its still not as smooth as windows, but its a huge improvement still.

Installed it in my usual manner:

1. Found out about the update on macrumors while at work
2. Got home
3. Woke up PB from sleep
4. Checked macrumors again ;)
5. Quit all apps
6. Upgrade
7. Restart
8. Confirm that everything works the way it always has

I've never had any problem with any update. My mac also seems snappier after this update. It could just be my expectations and the fact that my mac hasn't been restarted since the last upgrade, but I think they've done something good on this one.

OMG I _hate_ the way IE scrolls on Windows, I haven't even found out how to turn that stupid laggy and jerky "smooth scroll" thing off  . Hm, well maybe that's one of the reasons I use Firefox on windows :D

You forgot

4. I have found a problem.
5. Therefore every other Mac user has found this problem.
6. Therefore this problem should be Apples #1 priority.

Delete the help preference files and caches. It worked for me when Mac OS Help was messed up.

Delete this folder:
~/Library/Caches/com.apple.helpui/
Delete these files:
~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.help.plist
~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.helpviewer.plist

Works fine on my iBook G3, I was a bit worried after 10.3.6 killed my computer, but this one worked fine.

Thanks.

I have the same machine and startup in 10.3.7 is the same as I had in 10.3.6 which is about 40-45secs to finder screen with icons all loaded.

I find that using a program like Yasu greatly improves boot and app load times.

I've performed all the fixes Yasu does one by one manually and found that for some reason prebinding seems to be the one thing that speeds up system load time the most. I'm not sure why as I didn't think prebinding had much to do with system startup.

Starting with 10.3.6 I began running Yasu before and after every update. So far it seems to make a big difference.

Have you tried FSCK in Single User Mode? Also try running Yasu. It clears caches, performs chron tasks, repairs permissions, and updates prebinding. Very nice little GUI for those unix tasks.

Tastes Great!

Installed on 15" Al 1.25GHz PB with no problems. Runs fine.

Before any update I go through the following checklist:

1. Log out and log back in. (I have filevault turned on so this clears up unused disk space as well as restarting the finder.

2. Perform normal backups.

3. Repair disk permissions. (This time it found nothing to repair.)

4. Restart

5. Install the update.

I suspect that some problems people see are due to the OS being in an unexpected configuration when the update runs.

Thanks a million, this worked.
