Ppppleasseeee apple... Please include a display driver fix for the Mac mini (static problem), so I can finally use DVI-D on my 20.1 inch LCD, instead of VGA...

Have more than a few films of late that have black bars on the side in addition to the usual ones. Two examples: King & I, and South Pacific.

Another example: Batman Beyond, Return of the Joker. Which I'm actually watching for the 10th time in 3 months right now.
 
I sure hope they introduce some stability fixes for Safari. It crashes a lot with multiple tabs open. I don't want to have to wait until Safari 2.0 in Tiger.

This tells me that they are ready to leave panther behind and focus on tiger. Scrape the bottom of the barrell for problems, fix them, and let it go.

Exactly, since the last update safari crashes nearly every session. :eek: :eek:

Well hopefully they will get in gear and release safari 1.3. Thats was seeded to developers months ago but still has not see the light of day. Although firefox is great anyway and 1.1 will be a big update for macs as its intergrating with the os more
 
USB 2.0 Hard Drive Mouting. WOW!!!! that is a fix I need badly.

And firewire hard drive mounting - I've just given up trying to get an external hard drive working - in fact I gave the wretched thing to an XP user (who has absolutely no problem with it).

However, what happens if we get to 7Z? I haven't seen anything to indicate that the build system deals with anything more than 9X999 for a version...
 
so it really does look like they are trying to sure up panther now. i would probably expect it to be the last update (not because of the numbering system - i cant some people actually debate something like that!). it is now looking pretty obvious that tiger will be with us fairly soon (especially with the ever increasing releases of it) and so they will want panther to be done when tiger is with us just for the sake of not having to have additional workers working on past technology.
 
I hope they fix a few small problems with 10.3.8. My iBook will, after thelast update, not always go to sleep when I close it (it ALWAYS did this earlier). And it has, mysteriously, turned off one of my options in Secutity: Require password to wake this computer from sleep or screen saver, very weird. It also sometimes has problems refinding my wireless network upon waking from sleep.

So, although nothing critical, a few fixes would be appreciated...
 
im running 10.3.8 and my USB2 hard drive is working fine. nothing wrong with it at all (sig for machine im running, and the drive itself is an IcyBox).

but im young and niave. i'll be putting my order down for Tiger as soon as i can :D

Well, I'm not sure what they are teaching in school these days, but when I was a student 10 was the number that followed 9. It went, 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9...10! In fact when I went to school we were taught that numbers were infinite and could go on forever. So, what happened to 10? Is there some reason there cannot be a 10.3.10?
 
I really think that it's just not going to happen releasing X.3.10...it's just not Apple. Think about it, a One followed by a 0, it's not clear, hence all the debating on this forum! They won't do it. This will be the last update before Tiger. It's tidier that way! Betcha!

I get this problem all the time, doesn't matter what film.

To solve it, I have to switch between different sizes and then back to full screen until everything looks fine.

This problem first appears in 10.3.7 ( I think ).
 
Well hopefully this will be better than 10.3.8 which I still havent updated to after reading so many issues that people were having. Maybe I will try 10.3.8 out later but everything is working sooo smoothly now I would hate to cause probs! :D
 
USB and FireWire are all wanked on my computer. Some HD's will mount in firewire, but others won't, and my USB drive never mounts, I have to unplug it and re-plug it in after every re-boot.

Quite irritating.

Does anyone have any issues with Firmtek's PCI SATA card, more importantly external drives mounting?

I might just give up on firewire and go all SATA from here on out, if people say it's stable.

I haven't seen this anomaly, myself.

The only browser that crashes frequently is IE 5.2, especially if one scrolls whilst a page is still loading. Microsoft, alas, probably will never fix it (primarily do to Safari).

I agree a complete fix for this issue would be great, as well as a fix for the dark VGA output (if that can be fixed via software).

Your LCD shouldn't be unusable though. You should try forcing a lower resolution with something like cscreen (http://www.pyehouse.com/lynn/cscreen.php). 1280x1024 @ 57hz works for me on my 19" LCD. Otherwise, with the default Apple values, I have horrible static.

Apple support still recommends a motherboard swap!

People, I was kidding when I said there couldn't be another update after 10.3.9...yes, I am aware that there are numbers after 9. Yes, I realize that just because they hit 10.3.9 there can still be improvements made to the OS. And yes, this is wildly off topic. So, to get us back on topic:

I can't recall, but does Apple continue to update OSs after the next major update is released? Once 10.4 is out, will we see any fixes for 10.3? I know that security patches for older OSs are released, but how about integer updates?

And in the larger scheme of things, how long do you think Apple will ride the OS X gravy train? Imagine how hard it's going to be one day when they have to move to OS XI. Doesn't quite have the same ring to it. But, I suppose at the current rate they have at least 6 years before that happens. Didn't someone at Apple say, several months ago, that the yearly major updates will stop? While I welcome the improvements, it's tiring to shell out $129 every year. Every other year is much more palatable.

Worse, some films that do show properly, have their image on a full screen shrunk to a half-size image, necessitating a change to max screen then back to full to get proper aspect ratio.
Not sure about that second problem (which sounds very bizarre), but the first simply sounds like non-anamorphic DVDs, which is the DVD's problem, not the DVD Player app. :p

On the 10.3.9 update, I just hope it fixes the only real issue I have left, which is similar to the USB 2 one... I have to physically plug in the cable for my FW800 drive—if I just turn on the drive it's a crapshoot as to whether or not it'll mount by itself or I'll have to open Disk Utility and do it manually.
 
It's kind of discouraging to see that they still can't shake out the bugs even up until the software is dead and a replacement with new problems has come out. I would like to see it go something like 3 fixes and then nothing more. Not because they stop fixing things but because there is nothing left to fix.
