My FedEx truck just arrived at 12:10pm with my copy of Panther. I'm a little disappointed that I didn't also get the box. Wonder if you had to pay full price to get the box.

NO BOX?! that's strange! i hope mine comes with a box...
It should ALL be the same though. At least that's the impression I got from Apple over the phone. She said there's only ONE version and the only difference is price!

It does NOT make sense to me that you didnt' get a box. I bet someone liked it so much they ripped it off you! Did you check to see if the CDs are sealed as well, or if you can tell someone opened it?

hmm...

That doesn't appear to be the case. It's in a mailing envelope with the mailing label from Apple attached. Also has a warning label on the back. The CD's are still in a clear sealed package.

Is yours the up-to-date version? Or the educational or retail version? If it's the $20 UTD, I'm not surprised that those just come in a mailer and not the full box. I had a friend that got his Jaguar UTD discs last year from Apple in a yellow padded envelope and not a box. However, if you ordered the $69 EDU or $129 retail version, you definitely have a problem there...

I was forgotten

Well i checked my order again and finally called apple since it is still open....Ashley the CSR basically told me she has no idea why it was not sent as o ordered it on Oct. 11 :(....My brother in law ordered Panther 5 days ago and got it today and he lives 4 blocks from me....

Got Mine

I received mine this morning (10am EDT). Loaded up on my PowerBook. It was sent by FedEx and it came in the blackground, silver X box. I am really enjoying it. Expose is great and the updated Mail program is great. The new printer control panel is very useful and easy to use. Networking is even easier. And my computer seems to be moving along at a quicker clip. Well worth it. (I bought it through the education store at the $69.00 price).

Jeez, that sucks. I don't condone piracy at all, but if I were you I, wouldn't have any qualms about "borrowing" your brother-in-law's disks until yours arrive.

P.S. Mine is out for delivery this morning. Woohoo!

Just curious, Anyone from canada (specifically the Toronto area) recieve their copy of panther yet? Although I got a shipping notice and fedex number yesterday, Fedex says the package hasnt even shipped yet. Im just wondering the timeframe Im looking at between shipping notice and delivery. For reference my panther was an UTD on a edu powerbook. Im not complaining since I did order somewhat late (Oct 16 I think), Im just really anxious

FYI "Released for Delivery" for fedex just means the paperwork is done not that any actual item has been released.

i got it

i think i just got really lucky in this case, i ordered day before, on the 22nd with the student price. it shipped last night at 9:30pm and its here now.

this is great turnaround time.

now only if i had a MAC of my own (sigh)... still waiting till school starts in spring to buy my 15 in powerbook.

this copy is for my friend.

got my U2D copy today around noon. I plan to install panther on my new dual 2, and my old AGP G4 350 that's still running OS9. since I cant buy a second copy yet, I thought I would drop this copy of panther onto the G4 (it's in baaaad shape and I'm very curious to see the rumored speed increases in effect, and get both machines running X). wouldnt happen - said I did not have OSX previously installed. but from what I've heard around the boards, the U2D version was supposed to be the same as the retail. I called apple tech support, and it turns out they are NOT the same. just thought you might like to know.

I'm in Toronto, and received mine Thursday morning (a day early). I only just recently ordered it (on Tuesday night) using "free shipping" and it came priority overnight.

Although i went through the online EDU store (not sure if that makes it faster).

My Panther was scheduled for delivery "10/24 pm" like everyone else, but it arrived a little before noon. That's not "pm"! Who do I file a complaint with? :) :) :)

Geez, I could have had mine today from other retailers but I got screwed by MacConnection....

I called and cancelled my order and bought it elsewhere for more.

got it today, installed within an hour, didn't even ask me to reboot, it juist launched.... so cool

Welcome to Panther...

Got my copy of Panther 5 mins ago, Installing it now in iBook to take to Northridge CA Apple store tonight and play with in line.

(Kinda weird that they only say OS X all the way thru installation dialogs, not 10.3 [or X.3? hahaha])

Oh yeh, tht hs lwys hppened, but this is the first OS htt hs NEVER sked me to reboot AFTER instlltion. I ws so wierded out, tht fter plying round for few min, I decided to reboot, just to be on the sfe side...

WAIT, where re my little A's? I cn type fine with CAPITAL A, though no little A

AAAAAAAGGG

Got my copy, and I'm installing it now. I received mine in a box with 4 CD's (3 Install CD's and one MAC OS Xcode Tools???). I don't know why some people are not receiving theirs in a box?

Got mine too!!!!!!!!!!

And it works great. The new networking is great for Windows environments. I just plugged my PowerBook into the corporate LAN, clicked the little networking icon in the finder, and bam!!! There were all the file servers!!!!!!

Prints to HP Color Laser Jet and Xerox Docucenter (with Xerox drivers) just fine too!

Now if I could just get my corporate IT guys to upgrade to Exchanger Server 2000 or better, I could use Entourage instead of Outlook 2001 and get rid of classic finally.

hy, cnsdr yrslf lcky...t lst y hv 4 f th 5 vwls. dn't hv ny....nd nly smtms th 'y'

But seriously, I got my UDT today without a box (fine with me - all I really wanted were the disks) at about 2:42ish :D

Some notible features
1. layout of system prefs is MUCH improved. Didn't even know they needed it either.
2. all i got is three words - ex po zay!
3. mail - bonus! You now have a 'save all' button just next to a paperclip in your emails. Great for when you get multiple pictures sent to you (instead of selecting all - right click - save - yadda yadda).
4. in the screensaver pref - all of your iPhoto albums are listed! cool!

And much much more...happy exploring!

One other thing, the first disk from the Up to Date program is labeled as an Upgrade Disk. What exactly that requires I can't seem to find in the manual.

Just wondering if anybody else has been told by FedEx that their Panther would not arrive today even though it was scheduled for delivery today? As some of you remember, I am also the one that Airborne lost my Powerbook last month. I am done with ordering directly from Apple as everything I have ever ordered from them has had a problem.

I've seen this problem before with new Panther users. It's a conflict with an app--I forget which, but if you got to the OS X forum at MacNN and look for the thread about apps that don't work in Panther, you'll find the answer.
