I'm betting gesture support ahead of 10.5 in the new iMacs and Displays.

I really hope you're right. Just so that I'm clear, when you say new... Displays", you are talking about Cinema Displays correct? I have been *extremely* eager for new ACDs and there has not been a glimmer of new information on that front in a dog's age...

Wouldn't it be 10.4.10.1

Um, no, that makes no sense. The number that comes after "10" is "11". 10.4.10.1 would imply a minor update for 10.4.10, something that Apple generally does not distribute. (Though there was that one incident with, what was it, 10.2.8? Even then I'm not sure if they renamed the fixed version, maybe because they have enough dots already. ;) )

Apple can release new hardware without a new OS version. The Build # is what would differentiate the support for new hardware.

The latest release has really had some major problems that still exist with USB audio, even after Apple attempted to resolve the problem. There are other problems that still exist if you follow the postings on MacFixIt.com.

This release will be intended to stabilize Tiger once and for all, once Leopard is released there will only be security updates.

This is in no way an indication of new hardware.

Yep. I think the new Cinema displays will have touch screen, gesture support built in. I think this will be an interim update until 10.5 is released and I'm holding out that the really secret aspects of 10.5 are iPhone-like gestural support.

Also how and where do you report problems to Apple, as I see no contact area on their site. Just feedback for their site.

How do you contact them to get issues/problems sorted before the next update hits...?

They'd better do; 10.4.10 broke the following on the Macs around here:

Disk Image Mounting with many .dmg files known to work prior to .10 (C2D iMac, Mac Pro, PowerBook G4 12", PowerBook G4 15")

Recognition of video DVDs (C2D iMac, PowerBook G4 15" - they both have Panasonic UJ-846s...)

USB mass storage devices have become extremely flaky (Intel iMac, Mac Pro)

Occasional wireless drop-outs (C2D iMac)

Happy? No, I am not. Sort it out, :apple:

After reading about USB external disk mounting problems, I have skipped 10.4.10. "If it ain't broken..." motto coming back to me.

This is coming from ThinkSecret and 10.4.11 is going to arrive sooner or later, so this could easily be a speculation rather than a rumor.

i like your way of thinking theBB - i'm skipping it also :D

10.4 definitely seems like it will need one more update. 10.4.11 sounds good, but something like 10.4.10.1 sounds too long to me.

To me, this is nothing but good news. 10.4 will be updated more than it otherwise would have been if the iPhone development had not been slightly over schedule. That is a "good thing" (for older platforms). iPhone update is well expected and while not overdue, required BEFORE the "new iPod" release if nothing else to keep iTunes software updates less complicated. Expect an iTunes minor update within the next 30 days.

This raises a MAJOR point. Apple makes minor and major software updates on a vastly widespread platform basis (PPC/Intel/Universal/User/Server) OFTEN and seamlessly as compared to Microsoft. Apple has superceeded MS in terms of software updates.

I declare it.

How often does apple update their OS. When was Tiger released?

They release major updates on 2 to 3 year basis these days (in the recient past they did it around 1 to 1.5 years). They release point releases every few months depending on need. They release security updates often as needed.

For the fun of it follow the Mac OS X line on the following page...

If you wish to report any bugs to Apple you would need to get an ADC membership. You can get a free one.The one that doesnt give you any beta stuff or discounts. Then you would need to go to the bug report site

You don't need to get an ADC membership to report bugs. You can use their feedback site to report issues (most have a "bug" option).

http://www.apple.com/feedback/

If you want to track status of the bug an ADC account allows for that (in a limited fashion).
