Apple still needs to fix the gamma display problem with QT7. That bug has been driving me batty since upgrading.

The little things they fix are never the little things that bother me. We've discussed them in other threads and yes, I have reported them. But hope springs eternal that they will eventually take care of all the little annoyances.

Have you ever contacted Apple to discuss your concerns about bugs that annoy? It would seem that someone with higher education would carry more weight with Apple. Than just a home user's opinion would.

Yes, that's what I meant by "yes, I have reported them". I don't report a given problem more than once, since they are either listening or they are not, and reporting the same problem more than once to make it appear that it affects multiple users (all of them me) wouldn't be playing fair.

On the other hand, should I report a bug again if a new version of the product comes out and retains a bug from an earlier version? I'm not sure about that.

My bugs...

I done a clean install twice already..the only thing left is to completely wipe my drive and start again.

The bugs I have on my system:

When I put it to sleep, everything shuts off except the power supply fans, which, oddly enough, is still supplying power to the processor. When I wake it back up, my processor temp is almost 80 deg C and more often than not hangs soon after...so...no sleep for me..my uptime averages 2 hours.

Sometimes the finder will completely hang when I try and eject a disk and I have to force reboot....ya'd think that an operating system would be able to do a simple task like this...I haven't spent the time to figure out what circumstances cause this...nor should I have to.

My monitor settings still go batty when using fast user switching...the only solution there is a reboot, too.

I really hate spotlight...it ~could~ wait until I press return on my search instead of pausing after the first 3 characters. I did a search for a old file yesterday and it didn't find it. I found it later: in a folder on the desktop..wtf?

I, for one, wish I never switched to Tiger. It definitely wasn't worth it for me.

oops

Yes, it would seem that if a new version is released and the bug remains. It would seem to mean that Apple isn't listening or for some reason they are not able to fix the problem. I imagine that it's very frustrating. ;)

hi im relatively new to the world of Macintosh. My PowerBook came with 10.4.2. Will it cost money to upgrade to 10.4.3 when it comes out? or is it just like upgrading from iTunes 4.8 to 4.9?

It'll be free, as will 10.4.4, 10.4.5, etc., each with patches and occasionally minor new features. When Mac OS X 10.5 eventually comes out, though, they will want your cash again, if you want to upgrade and get all of its new features.

If APPLE were REALLY on the ball, you wouldnt NEED to be seeing more than an update or two per OS increment.

Saying that 'Windows is no better' is a cop-out.
Mac is supposed to be far superior to Windows, not simply just 'as good as' in terms of stability, security and reliability.

I'm glad to see Apple working their issues out. If software companies didn't release software until it had no bugs for any configuration no software would ever be released. They could be nasty like Macromedia, offer no upgrade, claim there was no problem, but then fix it in the next version that costs $400.

I just can't wait until they get Quartz 2D Extreme working, and the dpi scaler. It would come in super handy on my 12" iBook G4. 10.4 has been way sturdier than 10.3 on both my Macs, largely due to the fact that the finder doesn't crash every time I connect to another computer using SMB.

I'm hoping that we will see a new seed released soon. Progress toward a September release to the rest of us.

10.4.x has been reasonably good for all three of my machines - with the exception of the "right click on background>Change Desktop Background" issue (very minor).

No problems burning DVDs, no crashes, no bizarre power issues, Safari seems stable enough, and fortunately spotlight works well (although, I agree with a previous post, they should have a short delay before it tries to search).

10.4.2 almost unusable for me

I bought a powerbook hoping everything would "just work" ... as a java developer I was really looking forward to how osx was supposed to be the ultimate java environment. Well, my favorite IDE eclipse runs extremely slow, and I am jealous of my colleagues who have windows/linux laptops. Anyway, the good news is the eclipse slowness is supposed to be fixed in 10.4.3. Here's to hoping that's true :) ... assuming I don't find a buyer for my powerbook before 10.4.3 comes out so I can go get a pro-star.

Isn't that what a clean install is all about? It wipes the OS, your files etc ...
Some of the other bugs sound as if they are hardware related.
If you have an AppleCare subsciption, I'd take advantage of it.

I'm freewheelin' with Tiger. It's faster than Panther, more stable, I'm lovin' Spotlight and Dashboard, ...

Safari has never been the most stable app Apple ever released. Ever since it came out it's been crashing now and then, allthough it seems to me 2.0 is more stable.

The only thing that does bother me is the fact that it seems to get more sluggish, the longer the uptime. Anyways ...
