I hear that Erase HD and start again is best option for minimal bugs and best speed... If that true?

Whats Archive Install? How does it differ from Update?

Update just patches stuff. Can be.... erroneous.

Archive and Install installs a new OS but leaves your old user information on disk still, along with the old OS. Old stuff is placed in "Macintosh HD/Previous Systems" .

I would do an Archive and Install. I did that to get the iMac to Panther, but I'm actually going to clean install Tiger because I want the iMac to get all the old crap cleaned out, etc.

Does that mean I need to reinstall iLife '04? That would be a pain....

I wouldn't wory about upgrading, I have done it at least 50 times on my desktop and laptop doing upgrades on 10.3.5 thru 10.3.8. I have used the last 4 betas doing this process and havent had any problems that weren't fixed by doing a repair permissions.

Words fail to describe how much I am looking forward to this update and Spotlight. A lot of the other features are very interesting to me (Safari RSS since I don't like Firefox that much, and Automator looks a blast when you can't be arsed to learn AppleScript) but the ability to actually find the files that I need on my hard drive again will be fantastic. I've got a lot of documents related to various running projects on my drive at the moment (roughly 8,000), so it's been a real **** recently to actually find what I want, even with Quicksilver (although that's helped).

If nothing else, Spotlight will hopefully be worth the entrance fee itself.

Is it possible that 8A425 could be the last seeded build before the GM? Since the publicly known issues seem relatively minor (and seem similar to some caused by maintenance releases), is it reasonable if Apple simply patches them up and declares a GM without actually seeding it?

Well I was talking to Applecare support and.....

and I asked when Tiger was out? He replied it is already out.

I had training on it this morning and thenstarted gushing how amazing it is.

I double checked the site and said it is not that.

So he went off to talk to his supervisor and came back saying it will be out offical in the first six months of this year, though he can smell a Tiger a round the corner.

So make what you will of that................. :)

The Panther GM was seeded, of course we didn't know that for *sure* until a retail copy was delivered and someone reported the build number. Away 7B85 was the seed and it did turn out to be GM. It was seeded pretty much at the same time as it was announced, maybe a day ahead, I can't remember now. It took forever to d/l it, due to the heavy site traffic, as you can imagine.

Well I will certainly need to be on the computer at 8:30am tomorrow. Sounds as though for the earlier risers that apple.com might be down temporarily. This is getting very exciting.

Any Screenshots?!?!?!

Does anyone have any screenshots of the new build? I kinda want to see the new aqua desktop picture that macnews.net.tc claimed.

Well... My prediction about the April 1 Tiger announcement goes like this....

There is either going to a new thread on MacRumors with people sad about it not releasing

OR

There is either going to a new thread on MacRumors with people ecstatic about the new release.

Either way the new thread will reach about 20 pages in length in less than a day. :D

What about the whiner thread, where everyone that recently bought a Mac, outside the Up-to-Date window, complain about having to shell out $129 for Tiger. It's unfair, you know. :)

How true.

Ok so I left out at least 9 or 10 more possible threads related to the same subject.
why not start them threads now ? lol :D saying that i was thinking of starting the May Desktops thread as well

These forums are going to take a bit of a battering tomorrow......doubt we'll be able to get on them.

Don't ask me, I just thought I'd post the link :)
I'm not discrediting the story, I'm just saying it's not available on the developer download site, yet.
