Shocking pens?

I had the same thought. Maybe someone at Apple is playing an April Fool's joke on TS?

It's also strange that April 1st is on a Friday. Apple usually likes to make big announcements on a Tuesday. A real joke should only be done on the day itself.

Panther was officially announced on a Wednesday and released on a Friday 16 days later.

They must be aware of the confusion that an April 1st announcement would cause.

The rumor site expects the Tiger announcement and corresponding events on April 1, 2005 with shipments available by April 15th. Quicktime 7 is also expected alongside Tiger.

hahaha

"we were joking you the whole time, there is no Tiger!"

Thank you Think Secret! I'm trusting them on this one.

The scary part is if Apple releases tiger that early there is still time for ANOTHER OS release before Longshot makes its debut and not only another release but an 18 month release timeframe.

Most excellent!

*drools at the thought of what might come out in 10.5*

I dunno, Steve mentioned that OS releases would be coming out slower after 10.4 finally hits the market.

Hmmmm, if Longhorn = Longshot than Tiger = Moneyshot. :D

Oh god. I had a thought. It'll never happen but what if?
Steve comes on stage and announces that Tiger sales are moving at a brisk pace. Announces the new G5 PowerMacs. Announces the dual core PowerBooks or the G5 PowerBooks.

“Oh and one last thing. Today we are announcing for spring of 2007 OS 10.5 Ocelot.”

“We are talking our development cycle out even further this time around because we have something special planned for Ocelot.” Since our competition looks like they are finally catching up to us I guess its time to take the operating system to the next level. We revolutionized the desktop GUI with 10.0. We’ve refined it with 10.1, 10.2, 10.3 and now with Tiger. But we think its time to move the industry forward again with the next generation of GUI. Unfortunately you will have to wait until next year to get a peak at what we have planned but it’ll be worth the wait. Its some amazing stuff."

Not Really. Correct me if i'm wrong but I remember that the Panther Release Party was on a Friday Night @ 8pm...

Hoping this is true, Monday I'm buying a Dual 2.0ghz G5, and a 1.5ghz 12" PowerBook.

It's gunna be a Good Spring Break :)

Actually they announced that after Panther came out. It’s been well over a year since Panther was release. If they do it in 18 month increments.

If I'm ordering a G5 from the Apple store as I type this, will I get a free upgrade to Tiger?

Wait a few weeks and you can get the next rev with it installed.

Tiger released about the same time at NAB makes sense. Most of the underlying core technologies are absolutely essential to pro work.

They mention that the iMacs will be getting a firmware update of some sort, and I am REALLY REALLY hoping that it address the two biggest issues with the iMac G5s... 1) The noise. I'm not sure how much a firmware update can help this, but maybe some kind of better thermal management system, with the "quiet" fan(s) running harder to keep the rpms down on the loud one(s), and 2) the poor USB2.0 performance (see the barefeats review of external drives for more info on this one).

Hopefully the edu update will be $69 like it is for Panther, and MAYBE I can afford it. I am really looking forward to Dashboard, Automator, and Spotlight, like everyone, but I am also hoping for some substantial performance improvements from Tiger (esp in video card drivers and OGL subsystems).

holy guacamole

This soon!? YESSSSS!!!!!! :D
Hope my PB can use all of the features!

As much as TS seems to get these things right, I'm just not buying it. I think maybe Apple is feeding TS some misinformation. There haven't been anywhere near the number of Tiger seeds, compared to Panther. The last one was the 24th of Feb. There's hardly time for another seed before they have to start producing the media to ship. On top of that, I don't think it's ready. There has been a seed yet that didn't have a laundry list of outstanding bugs. We'll know for sure in 3 weeks, but my money says no way. April Fools!

Yes, it was Friday October 24th, 2003.

THIS IS GONNA HAPPEN

I have always considered April as the release date for Tiger, it's just been a hunch of mine. It would also tie in quite nicely with that slip up from Amazon.com where they posted the original pre-order date for March 31st which was then changed to April and then again to June after Rumour sites caught wind of it.

Think about it:

Final Cut Pro 5
Motion 2
Shake 4.0
Tiger 10.4

iMac and eMac updates
Followed by PowerMac updates in June

It's happening, the next 3 months are going to be very interesting ;)

yes you are wrong.... the previous poster said product 'announcements' are usually on tuesdays, not product 'releases'. they are two different things.

the Panther release party was exactly that... a release party, not an announcement party.

may be nothing but

the UK amazon site shows a hell of a lot of tiger books due for release on april 1st - could just be a co-incidence?
