I'm constantly amazed by the number of people on this forum who say they have new machines and repeatable problems and who sit around and moan waiting for an Apple update to fix it. Have you not heard of the Apple store and the genius bar? If your dvd really crashes 'every other time', take it to the x*??!! Apple store and get it fixed! Why is that so difficult?? It is most likely a faulty drive - but instead of going and doing something about it, you sit around forever waiting and complaining for a software fix that'll never come.

Just to get things clear - if you have a new MB or indeed any other new Mac less than a year old, IT IS IN WARRANTY. If there is a reproduceable fault take it in to the Apple store and show them. If it don't work - they are obliged to fix it.

Well I guess it's too bad for those of us who live in Alaska where there's no Apple store! Oh, I think I'll cartwheel on over to the Genius Bar. I hope there's one in Seattle! Excuse me for complaining. Stick that in your juicebox and suck it!

Even MORE irritating... Rented movies don't show up in Front Row! I have to open them inside iTunes.

Anyone else have the issue where the dock appears after a while in QuickTime full view (NOT Front Row)? Happens to me a lot, and my dock isn't set to auto hide.

Dock in fullscreen Quicktime. I'm afflicted as well. Now I'm sure that someone will tell me to take it to a Genius Bar so they can fix it.

Ah, hmm, you're right. When that's checked it doesn't actually find preference files, it finds the actual system preference control panels.

And in case anyone is wondering why I would want to look for these in first place, I find using spotlight the easiest way to uninstall a program completely. Also, the fix to many problems with programs is often to delete said .plist. Yeah, I could use Finder to navigate to .../preferences and do it manually. Why though, if the computer can find it much faster?

No. I want:

Spotlight to show ALL files again, including .plists

So, not exactly super easy, but you can search for them this way:

-Open a Finder window
-Enter plist in the search field (or whatever you are looking for)
-When the Search menu shows click on the little PLUS + sign to the right of Save
-On the Kind menu, select Other
-Scroll in the list and select System Files (you can check this to have it always show in the menu)
-Change the next option to include

This should search and find all system type files. If you chose to always show System Files in the dropdown menu, at least future searches you don't have to select Other and System Files.

Still I would like them to change the base Spotlight prefs to allow for this if the user wants.

-Kevin

Ditto

If the update did nothing else besides fix the X3100, I'd be happy. It needs a new driver. It runs worse than the old GMA 950 right now and it's buggy to boot. Intel's driver for Windows makes it run beautifully.

Ditto. The x3100 driver is an insult to my Macbook, november 07 revision. Gotta love paying $1200 for screen artifacts.

This build will not be released until the new Time Capsule ships and also not until the new Interface for Front Row is ready.

I'd hang around until Feb. 1st or the 5th.

I've heard of a Front Row update a few times now. Do you all mean :apple:tv?

Doesn't look like we'll be getting it today. Maybe next week? Wouldn't be surprised to see a build like 9C25 or 9C28 as the final.

Hmmm, since pretty much the only system files I am looking for occasionally are said preference files...I did something similar to what you suggested, and now I've got a "All plists" item in the side bar under "Search For".
Darn...it was almost what you suggested, but not quite, and now I can't remember what exactly. But now I have that "smart search" whatsit, just click on it, then search for the name of the program, and its associated plist will show up. Close enough. Thanks.

Yeah. I like simple :)

Not everyone has an Apple store right around the corner. The nearest one is about an hour and a half away from my home. A trip to the apple store would take at least four hours when you consider a round trip and 30 min for them to fix it. After classes and work, this simply isn't an option for many people. I do believe people could cut down on the whining, but you should be more sensitive to others' circumstances. Not everyone is so lucky as to have an Apple store in their backyard.

the new graphic kext not really work for me with nvinject,
got a black screen after all, that may due to apple separate
to drivers? :(

You're kidding, right?

We have two here in Palo Alto, plus the Stanford campus store. We have eleven Apple Stores within a 30-45 mile radius.

Surely the San Francisco area isn't different from Wyoming or North Dakota!

That's what the 800# Apple puts in their literature is for. Having an Apple Store near you is not required for a warranty repair. So, sorry, but I have to call shenanigans here.

As a former, recovering tech of far too many years, I have absolutely no patience myself with people who'd rather "bitch and moan" about a problem than actually do something about it. And as for those who seem to suffer from the "but this is my main, my one-and-only computer, and I need it", well I have no sympathy for you, either. Ever hear of having a Plan B? Or do you expect Apple (or whomever else) to be liable and responsible for running your whole entire life? Hmm???

cool guy. nice to have a tech like you on the phone. ' got a problem '? buy another computer approach. well, some people haven't space, time or money to buy another computer if their main one that should run okay doesn't. it is rubbish to think that the consumer of a product is at fault or playing the wally for a computer that is out of order.

i guess your high post count and avatar may be one of those that i might just have to skip over as this was so close to a troll comment that i am just laughing

EDIT: if i missed some irony, sorry but... if that was irony or your sense of it, it is better just to call it a lie - poor form

Dumb Question asking for Help!

Hey everyone,

Since the 10.5 upgrade, Disk Utility hasn't worked for me at all.

I can open the program, but it will not even Repair Permissions on any drive. I saw a small thread somewhere online, where other users were having my identical problem.

BUT, has anyone heard of this? And, do you believe this 10.5.2 might help?

Thank you everyone!

uhmmm...I thought 10.5.2 was sorta necessary for the new ultralites to run at their best-and theyre out-right?
maybe tomorrow.
Im not budging from 10.4.11 until
And I might skip 10.5.2 if it turns out to be another "fools update"
(ive already tried 10.5.0/1-what a joke apple played on us)

I had this problem as well and it was caused by iSync (for me it was .mac sync). Everytime the sync started when I was watching the movie, the dock came in front. Try to disable the sync temporarily and see if it helps.
