Does anyone know of Apple has fixed all the issues with Back to My Back? They claim 10.5.1 addressed issues, but it really didnt do much at all and there are still massive problems.

I think that they will provide fixes to Back to my mac with the 10.5.2 update. If they will solve everything, that remains to be seen.

Hi, I'm new to macs and just wondering does the update need to be downloaded all at once or can it be paused / computer shut down / etc?

Also, the plist files mentioned a while ago, adding the Kind filter with is Other "XML Property List" will also work (specifically for plist files, i.e. no need to use "plist" in your search), and you can get an idea about what you entered for a saved search by right-clicking it and opening it with text edit. Near the bottom of the file is a fairly human-readable form of what you entered.

Update is downloaded as one single file. Not sure what you are referring to on your plist question, I don't have the background for the question. You need to quote the specific previous material.

doh!

No my system doesn't work, 'it just works' is the tagline for mac os x at the moment, and me repeating it is what I would like to think of as a joke.
I guess one of these days I will learn that sarcasm doesn't translate well into writing!
p.s. Did you know my dog has no nose?

Sounds then like a trip to the Apple store or a call to Apple to send a box maybe in order before your warranty runs out. Even if it is a few hundred miles away you need to do it. The computer does you no good if it does not work, so being out for repair for a week to 10 days won't make any difference. I would bite the bullet before your warranty runs out.

sorry, the plist stuff wasn't a question, it was related to an earlier post.

I'm getting various answers about the pausing download question though. I think I'll just try some stuff when it hasn't been downloading for long and see how it copes, and if it doesn't cope I can fall back on Daveoc64's suggestion.

We don't have an Apple store here in Erie PA. The nearest Apple store is Pittsburgh (2 1/2 hours away), Buffalo (2 hours away) and, Cleveland (1 1/2 hours away).

So there's no going to the Apple Store here. It's not worth the drive...

Funny thing though, we used to have a Gateway store way back in the days. LOL

Hugh

doubt you'll read this, but if you do...

there's a store called "mac outfitters" in Cranberry (About 40 min closer to you than the pittsburgh store is) and it's authorized by apple.

oh, i just realized you said cleveland store is closer, but why on earth would you ever want to go to Cleveland when you can drive only an hour farther and be in Pittsburgh???! :)

I dont know why everyone is complaining about stacks. I love stacks, i think they did a great job on it.
I do like the list feature that they are adding on though, that way if I select a folder>subfolder>contents
I can navigate within the folder now, instead on just clicking the main folder.(makes sense?)
But I have been happy with stacks so far. And the dock doesnt bother me either...it just took a little getting used to.

I'd rather wait and have Apple pack in every fix they can before releasing than having a busted OS.

Most of the complaints stem from Apple taking away functionality to add in new things.

What they are now doing is to offer choice which is great, because people can choose how their computer works - not just how Apple's latest marketing tells them it should.

I like Stacks, but for some lists they just don't work.

I would hardly call Leopard "busted." Or, Tiger 10.4.0 "busted for that matter. Are there bugs in Leopard? Yes. But there are bugs in every OS on the planet. Are the bugs in Leopard "show stoppers?" Not for 98% of all Leopard users. I'm a little tired of people saying Leopard is crap or not ready for prime time.

You have to consider that Apple doesn't public beta test like a lot of other software companies. They do most of their testing in-house and they release code to developers. That's a much smaller testing pool than offering public betas. Most software bugs are found in the wild, which is why many companies do beta testing in the first place. Considering Microsoft public beta tested Vista for a long time makes it quite ironic that Vista is such a piece of crap.

Leopard is quite good. Just because bugs are found in it after its initial release doesn't mean it's broken, junk, crap, or not ready for prime time. It just means more people are using it and are finding bugs.

At least Apple is committed to fixing bugs in a timely fashion. The same can't be said about Vista SP1 or XP SP3 that is years overdue.

I'd rather wait and have Apple pack in every fix they can before releasing than having a busted OS.

Agreed 100%.

Leopard is a mess since there was not enough time to do proper bug fixing and gather user feedback about UI decisions.

We've limped along with Leopard this long. I'd rather get a rock solid baseline in 10.5.2 by waiting longer.

cover flow columns

It would be godly if they added a column view option to coverflow. The whole list view thing just isn 't cutting it.

Then how come all my internet apps, except FireFox crash when connected to the internet? Unplug the ethernet cable and they start up ok, albeit not internet connected, which some of them need eg Adium. BTW, no need to shout, I hear you loud and clear already. :)

Your Proxy Server issue has NOTHING TO DO WITH LEOPARD.

It has to do with a protocol handshaking bug in WebKit which means SAFARI.

I think people took my comment wrong. I wasn't implying that the entire OS is busted. I'm just saying, instead of people complaining about when it will be out, I would rather think they would want a solid point release. Apple has been good about fixing what the customers want.

do the 2% of you who are having problems with leopard think that delaying the release will do anything that will fix bugs? bugs are found when the os is released to the public. in testing, they might not have found anything wrong with it, but once it hits the world, people will do things with it that they never think of in the labs.

making everything perfect before it comes out is nothing more than a pipe dream. EVERYTHING has revisions to make it better. your own body has revisions to make it better when you take a flu shot or get a vaccination.

so stop bitching and whining because i have not had a single problem with leopard since i installed it the monday after it came out. i'm sure a lot of people haven't had any problems with it either.

so what, you're missing a list view in stacks or your wireless isn't working (mine's working fine.. go figure) its a small inconvenience that you can easily work around.

but go on with your whining because its funny to hear elitist ******s make mountains out of molehills.

Well - I'm not sure I would state it quite like Bonsai has - but I agree with his experience. We have been running our business on multiple Macs (various processors) with virtually no significant problems - very solid and stable performance. And, we run a wireless network with 99.99% uptime.

Video (including HD), light audio use, Photoshop CS3, Word, Powerpoint, Excel, Pages, Keynote, Numbers, iWeb, .Mac for business & personal and others -very pleased.

10.5 has been an excellent launch from my perspective - not perfect but well done Apple.

Its a whole OS! There will still be known bugs after 10.5.10 or whatever is the last Leopard version...

Who said anything about not releasing it because it has bugs? No operating system is bug free, but its when operating systems are shipped with known bugs that of a critical nature - that is the problem. Nothing to do with eliminating all bugs, it has to do with ensuring that the known bugs remaining are of such trivial importance that no one will care about when the first/second/third update will be released.

I hope they fix screen sharing in iChat. Twice I have tried to use it with a friend to help them fix a problem and it has failed. It doesn't provide any useful error messages as to why, either; just "failed to connect".

When I first saw this feature I thought it was going to be awesome, but considering that I've tried it with three separate Leopard users and have never gotten it to work, it's disappointing.

Well said, kaiwai - squash the really big nasty bugs first, and we can keep flicking off the little unimportant ones until the lice powder kicks in and they are no more!
