Will they fix the permissions repair issue?...it's the one of the things preventing me from going Leopard on my iMac

and the very LONG boot times. my PB G4 would boot completely in 50 sec. Now it is almost like 2 minutes. its was okay till 10.5.1 but 10.5.2 started this issue. and leopard is less responsive as well than it was at 10.5.1

USB audio issues fix

Let's hope they fix the external USB soundcard issues that have come up for non Santa Rosa Macbook users. I need my Serato DJ software to not have abrupt USB dropouts for no reason, you dig?

Found this on AppleInsider's article.
AppleInsider said:
According to people familiar with 9D12, the build tacks on 17 additional fixes and code corrections to a list now over 110 deep. Particular emphasis appears to have been placed on Spaces, they say, where new tweaks target the feature's preference pane, hot keys activation, and general functionality.

Why "particular emphasis" on Spaces? Spaces is useful and all, but not nearly the most important feature in OS X IMHO. Why not fix all those bugs & security holes?

I hope they fix the Finder so that windows remember the view setting. i like to have some windows in list view and some in column view. 10.5-10.5.2 are broken.

I'm not sure I've experienced this or if I thought this was the design of it.

If I have /movies in list view
and /movies/comedy in column view

If I navigate movies, then comedy, comedy is in list view (rather than column view)

If i navigate movies, then hold cmd and double click comedy, it pops up in column view (thusly remembering it's setting).

In short, the child folders inherit the parent folders view unless cmd is held down to always load that folders view.

Digidesing Pro Tools Support In 10.5.3??

Just two days after the last Mac OS X 10.5.3 Seed, Apple has again seeded a new build revision for Mac OS X 10.5.3 (9D12) to developers. 17 more fixes and only 1 known issue remains.

Typically, Apple has waited several builds before re-seeding new versions to developers. In the past, rapid-fire seeding has meant that they were prepping for the final release. It's unclear if Apple has simply changed its policy and seeding more frequently. If Apple continues on this aggressive seeding, we will report future builds on Page 2 unless there are substantial changes.

Does anyone have any information on whether this release will support Digidesign's Pro Tools, specifically their Core Audio Driver. Currently I am running 10.5.2 on a brand new Mac Pro 3Ghz 8-core, and I am one of the few who can run Pro Tools with minimal issues, Reason runs as well. However, my issue is that I cannot play iTunes or any other audio source through the Core Audio driver, through the DIGI002R interface and out to my studio monitors. While the sound source sees the DIGI002R as an option, it always defaults to the internal speakers.

Does anyone have info regarding this?

Much appreciated.

Will they fix the permissions repair issue?...it's the one of the things preventing me from going Leopard on my iMac

There's actually nothing wrong with Repair Permissions it just calculates a bit wrong and takes a bit longer but it still does the job. Repair Permissions issue shouldn't be the reason for holding off upgrading.

Hopefully Apple will do something about the To Do's!!!

To Do's work for me. I have my university account setup via IMAP in Mail.app and on my iPhone. When I add a To Do in Mail, it creates a folder in my university account called Apple Mail To Do. When I open that up it's a list of whatever I've created in Apple Mail. Maybe you're talking about it syncing with Notes on an iPhone. That's what I wish would happen, but I'm content with the current solution.

You are not going to Leopard because it takes 10 minutes or so to run a repairs permission? How many times a day do you run it?

i do not get it.

well there is. Disk Utility just hasnt been optimised for the new packaging system in Leopard. Apple receipts now have the extension ".bom" and are stored in /Library/Receipts/boms whereas in Tiger they were packages stored in /Library/Receipts/.

but who cares really?

Ha ha, I hope the hackintosh owners take the plunge and download and install the 10.5.3 update, it will probably do their *cough* Mac a world of good.;)

You should just get Leopard and be done with it. Permissions run here, BUT, it just takes a lot longer than before. But it works for me. Tiger spoiled me with only a 2 to 3 minute run time. It now takes me about 15-20 min. I have submitted a bug report to Apple. But Im glad to be using Leopard. I love time machine! Go for it. At least that's my humble opinion--)) ;)

Besides, the permission thing is a NON-ISSUE. It just takes longer because it HAS to take longer...deep changes were made in Leopard's permissions management system when compared to Tiger. And the messages shown are simply for information of the user, little else.

It would be a bit silly to hold out on Leopard just because of some diagnostic messages...it's BY FAR the best OS X version and I have difficult even seeing why a 10.5.3 is needed...pretty much everything runs ok with 10.5.2...

The only thing I don't really like is TM blocking my iMac from sleeping when I tell it to do so...it wakes up from time to time and just dims the screen afterwards...

Refusing to upgrade because the permissions repair takes longer than before is completely ridiculous.

It's a repair routine, people. You don't need to be doing it every day, or even every month. You only need to do it when you have errors occurring that could conceivably be related to wrongly set permissions. Doing it for any other reason is voodoo.

All it does is compare the permissions of Installer-installed files with what the receipts database says they should be, and fix any that are different.

What I don't get is why is needed at all. Every file that is part of a patch should have the permissions set correctly to begin with. If Apple is setting the permissions wrong then shame on them. While it is possible for some other application to screw with them, if I ever find that app, It would be out of my system ASAP.

I never understood the need to run it. There is no such animal in other Unix variants. You can create your own, but it does not come with the others.

I hope this fixes my issues with apps freezing and not allowing me to force quit them (Mac the ripper, iTunes, Camino, ect.), also when this happens Leopard hangs when trying to restart and I have to hard reset it, which leads to a 5+ minute reboot (most of the time is taken sitting on the blue screen) This has become an occurrence multiple times a week as of late. Anyone else have this problem?

At least Apple is working on 10.6, that's not a secret.
First facts are found on Apples macosforge.org

But back to Leopard, i only hope this will fix my bad Airport problem..
and not that Apple is talking about some other Airport related problems in the changelog... who knows. :D

Have a link?

kinda yeah! on my alu 2.0 iMac quite often!

Remember Steve Jobs said that the pace of development was slow to between Tiger (10.4) and Leopard (10.5) but would pick up to almost an annual pace for 10.6 on.... That means 10.6 previewed at the WWDC and released at MacWorld 2009!!!

Force Quits

My big issue is crashing and the lack of working force quits. Many apps hang and you cannot force quit. Even

Kill <pid>
at the terminal when run as root does not work.

Also, CDs will not eject unless I reboot.
