What's about the file associations

what'S really annoing me is that after almost every logout the file-associations are reset. Thinks this in only when using file-fault.
IT always picks Acrobat for the PDF, but I want Preview, and I don'T want Textedit for my txt-files. Realy not nice to set them again and again every time. :(
Hope thy fix it this time!

~ "Back to My Mac" is still broken and nothing more than a joke.
~ Finder remembering view settings is also broken. This is something that worked great back in the OS 9 days.

These are the two issues that .3 needs to fix.

Hm. I've used BacktoMyMac many times since 10.5.0 and its worked great.
Same with Finder memory.

Found this on AppleInsider's article.

Why "particular emphasis" on Spaces? Spaces is useful and all, but not nearly the most important feature in OS X IMHO. Why not fix all those bugs & security holes?

The list of 117 bugs fixed is them not fixing those bugs and security holes?

And Spaces is a life saver. Honestly it is the #1 reason I moved to Leopard so yeah, I want it fixed.

what is being fixed?

Hey does anyone know what the list of fixes are? there's always posts saying there are 75 known issues and 75 fixes (or whatever) but no list of actual fixes. Are we not allowed to know this until its released or something?

can someone please tell me if they know whether the TimeMachine bug will be fixed where Exposé, Dashboard & Dictionary keyboard/mouse shortcuts are cleared? ive wanted this fixed since 10.5.0.

I filed an Apple Bug Report on this, and was informed it was a duplicate... so they know and hopefully have fixed it for .3

hopefully...

I don't suppose improved boot times on my Macbook is in the cards, but I was rather used to getting to my full desktop in under 30 seconds. The time has been increased twice over. It's nothing big, and I imagine it's account of Leopard being a bigger cat than Tiger (who knew :p ), but it's sort of a downer just the same.

The graphics issue which de-prettified Stacks would be a welcome fix.

Since all seeds are under Apple's NDA people aren't supposed to know anything.

in theory.

I said permissions repair is ONE of the reasons i haven't moved to Leopard completely and i mentioned that because it was the issue that plagued me recently after doing several installs. Hence was fresh in my mind. There are others...

Other examples include Finder grinding into a halt during network transfers, Finder's handling of networking in general is just......subpar. Finder views is another one. Logins is another one, if you type a password incorrectly it takes almost 10 seconds to realise its wrong compared to the instantaneous timing in Tiger.

Some apps i rely also don't work completely well with Leopard and requires Apple's intervention...for example

A little but annoying one is the Dock (with glass turned off) failing to remember custom sizes as soon as you log out and log in

There are other niggles but the Finder/Disk Util issues are a major no no. I use them frequently (and yes i install software/modifiy folder permissions quite frequently...its not voodoo practice )

You have a weird setup because I don't have any of those problems.

These are the two issues that .3 needs to fix.

They are my two biggest issues as well.

I also would really love the inclusion of a damn "Print Selection" command.

I hope they fix the Finder so that windows remember the view setting. i like to have some windows in list view and some in column view. 10.5-10.5.2 are broken.

Not entirely. Yes, I think they are broken... but you CAN get them to remember. It's a bit of a pain... BUT IT WORKS!

All you have to do is set the same window with the same settings 2x in a row and they WILL stick!

So... open Documents... click Coverflow View... close Documents... open Documents... click Coverflow View... close Documents.

then

Open Downloads... click list view... close downloads... open downloads... click list view... close downloads...

NOW the FINDER will retain the different settings between the two.

Weird, but true ;-)

Nifty: Now what if you're using single window mode and click back... does the folder before it change into the new settings?

EDIT: I couldn't get this to work... please explain in greater detail. I did exactly what you said and mine always defaults to my last view setting I used no matter what window I used it in.

Dont see how....its a standard BlackBook 2.2 SR with a recently re-installed 10.5.3 connecting to an iMac & MBP (also has these issues) in a network served by an AEBS

I hope that they build in MS ActiveSync support into mail, calendar, and contacts. I would be at peace with the world then.

I was wondering if we might see that in June when the iPhone update is released. That would be a great addition to OS X.

This might clarify:

"Unfortunately, things are much more grim than they first appear for fans of spatial file management—or anyone else that cares about view style retention in the Finder.

The Leopard Finder makes its usual, halfhearted, buggy attempt to retain window size and position for each folder. It still does so using .DS_Store files in each directory, and those files are still written in an undocumented binary format. What the Leopard Finder no longer even attempts to do, however, is remember the view style for each folder (e.g., list view, icon view) unless explicitly asked to do so by the user. Here are the steps required to do that.

Open the folder.
Set its view style to the desired state.
Open the View Options panel (type command-j or select the item in the View menu).
Check the "Always open in ... " checkbox, where "... " will be the view style set in step 2.

This process must be repeated for every single folder that you want to retain its view style. If you do not do this, the view style of any given folder will be the same as the last view style that you explicitly selected for any folder."

Taken from Ars's review of Leopard

Its a workaround but i dont see why it should be. It worked fine in Leopard why fix it if it isn't broken

Does anyone have any information on whether this release will support Digidesign's Pro Tools, specifically their Core Audio Driver. Currently I am running 10.5.2 on a brand new Mac Pro 3Ghz 8-core, and I am one of the few who can run Pro Tools with minimal issues, Reason runs as well. However, my issue is that I cannot play iTunes or any other audio source through the Core Audio driver, through the DIGI002R interface and out to my studio monitors. While the sound source sees the DIGI002R as an option, it always defaults to the internal speakers.

Does anyone have info regarding this? Much appreciated.

I follow the Digidesign Mac OS X forums regularly in anticipation for a "Leopard-ready" ProTools announcement. As I gather, for the past month or so Digidesign has had people on-site at Apple headquarters to work on the audio issues present in Leopard.

That said... I would expect this is the big update everyone is waiting for. About a month ago a Digi rep posted that they needed a "few more weeks" before the update will be available. I'm expecting some good news soon!

As for your CoreAudio problem, have you downloaded the latest driver update? This is the one built for the new Early '08 Mac Pros, but it's supposedly only authorized for 10.5.1.

If you open a folder directly, it should show the view you prefer. If you open it through drilling down through folders it's going to inherit the view from the folder before it(parent).

If you hold cmd when you double click into the folder with a known different view, it should change to that view. That's how I've always handled it with Finder and Leopard.

I do think that it needs to get fixed.

+1

This issue has plagued Leopard, I hate having to readjust my cover flow settings each and every time.

I'm not sure what the bug is. If you open the window prefs and lock the mode for that window, does it not keep that setting?

.it's BY FAR the best OS X version and I have difficult even seeing why a 10.5.3 is needed...pretty much everything runs ok with 10.5.2...

The caching subsystem is broken.

I don't suppose improved boot times on my Macbook is in the cards, but I was rather used to getting to my full desktop in under 30 seconds. The time has been increased twice over. I think that will be fixed, because odds are high it is caused by the caching bug. That is the likely source of the complaints that 10.5.2 was slower booting than 10.5.1.

Apple doesn't support Digidesign, it's the other way around.

Apple releases an OS, and Digi has to make their drivers compatible. Sadly, they probably handle compatibility worse than any company I've ever seen (and their core audio drivers are usually a mess).

They're supposedly working on 10.5.2 testing and compatibility, but by the time they get it out, 10.5.3 will probably be shipping.

You should probably be asking digi this question, you can try their user conference: http://duc.digidesign.com

Or you could just set the view, then hit command J and check the pref to lock that folder to that view. Did you miss that one?

You do know you can sleep the machine and only have to wait 1 second to get to your desktop, right?

I really don't get people who shut down every time. Just use sleep, it works great on Macs and is much more convenient.

I only shut down my Mac Pro when I go on vacation for more than a few days. Sleep all the way.
