ichat problems

ichat screen sharing, video, and audio chat stopped working with 10.5.1
i wonder why they still aren't fixing that?

i get excited for these updates, even though OSX is running well atm! haha. Like early christmas

Could an older Mac's drive be updated if Apple decided to make a software update for blue-ray support?

Blu-ray is an entirely different laser technology. You'd need a whole new drive.

There are a few vendors, however, that will install a blu-ray drive in your mac. They don't come cheap though.

Its looking like my Rev 1 MBA is getting the finger by not getting four finger gestures even though its only a few months younger than the new one with no hardware differences on the trackpad. Whats that all about.... lol

It can support it. Apple is just being evil about the software. Some people have had MBP running under Linux supporting 10 finger support! (I wish I was joking.)

Maybe we'll get lucky. I doubt it. Someone will put out a hack. At least that is the hope.

Friday is possible but there's always Tuesday. I don't have any problems with 10.5.5 but another point release is never a bad thing.

The Apple ][e and then on to the Mac 512K and the eventual Mac Plus....I was there when the teeny tine 3 1/4 inch floppy drive space doubled from 400k to 800k.... got the first 5MB hard drive (yes that is an M and it was bigger than my Mac Plus).... now those were the days.....

Of course my Atari 400 with the pressure sensitive keys, cassette tape drive and Basic was in a cartrige....still brings me warm fuzzy memories....

Memories.... but I digress - I like updates even though my only problem with my new Mac Pro is MS Office.... but that is not Apples fault...

I believe mine came with version 1.0. The original Mac (128K).

My next mac came with Mac OS X 10.4

So, am I a switcher? Yes... constantly...

Memories, indeed. I remember my dad bringing home a Commodore 64 & writing "Choose Your Own Adventure"-style stories using go-to loops and "backing it up" to a Radio Shack tape drive that used regular audio tape cassettes. (I was the one writing the adventures... not my pappy... well, at least as far as I know...)

Then came the Apples, but the first one I ever owned myself was a Tangerine 266 MHz iMac. Meanwhile, I'm still occasionally floored by the fact that I can carry a week's worth of my favorite music in my pocket and listen to it anywhere and wherever I want.

As for 10.5.6? I think I'm going to wait. AFAIK everything works fine right now, and I likes it that way.

7x stability

Pah! System 7 had full color, and Prince of Persia on the Games Demos disc looked awesome. :p

7.1 > 7.5.5 :apple:

I never had a problem with 7.5.5 and found it to be much more stable than 7.5.3 and some earlier builds. My Quadra 605 in 1993 shipped with a version of System 7.1 with its own System Enabler.

What I found embarrassing was stability in later versions of Mac OS 8.5, 8.6 and 9.x. 8.1 was pretty darn stable and hosted an AppleShare network on an old Beige G3 Server until 2006 where I'm employed.

Actually, 1/3 of the G3 tower was submerged in water for about 8 hours as some idiot decided to move furniture and left the server on the floor. After we let the components dry, it fired right up like nothing ever happened. Amazing....simply amazing.

The Gateway tower on the floor across the room didn't make it that night. :)

I believe I've seen that 10.5.6 should have the trackpad preference pane found on the custom builds of 10.5.5 found on the GlassBooks. And because of that, it would seem that it would be possible to get the hack working without having to reinstall the OS like the previous thread from a few weeks about it here on MR. (Sorry, no link.)

Money. Seems to be a recurring them lately. :(

I was hoping for a fix for Screen Sharing and Time Machine.

-Screen sharing for multiple monitors still gives me issues.
-Time Machine gives errors every so often and has since I switch in May. Hopefully they can fix this sometime in the future.

10.5.5 has been pretty good; even 10.5.4. I am noticing some small things with 10.5.5 though. Somethings seems to have changed with 10.5.5 cursor placement when highlighting text. The pointer also remains as if in a text field on some applications when carried off. Good to see a 10.5.6 update coming out!

Why someone vote this "negative"?? I don't get it. Software updates are always welcome.
