Many of you said I am a pirate...Well have a look at the attachment.
My Family Pack is ready for shipment. I wonder when it will ship

As long as you can sleep at night, that's all that matters. Here's what you did:

1. Ordered Leopard
2. Used the ordering of it as a "right" to download a copy that was not sanctioned by Apple to be posted on the web
3. Installed Leopard
4. Paid for Leopard (remember, you did not PAY until your card was charged, and your card was not charged until the item was shipped)
5. Lied to this board that you had a contact at Apple, implying that you obtained from Apple an authorized copy, when in truth, you did not

This does not mean you did everything legally, from a technical perspective. It's like saying:

1. "I will stop my car at some point" (equivalent to your ordering Leopard)
2. Running the red light (equivalent to your download of an unauthorized copy of Leopard)
3. Subsequently stopping the car (equivalent to paying when your card was charged after download, at the time of shipment)
4. Trying to say that you were authorized to run the red light because you intended to stop later, and then did stop.

You did not have any "rights" when you ordered Leopard, and you did not have any EULA to protect you because you had not paid for the license at the time you downloaded the unauthorized copy -- you merely placed an order and were charged AFTER you had downloaded the copy.

You know that Apple is unlikely to do anything to you. However, your arrogance is amazing. Most on this forum could care less what you do because they are chomping at the bit for how Leopard works and any reliable information is welcome. However, let's call a spade a spade -- your rationalization of what you did does not mean you did anything legal.

Sleep tight...

A few things I've noticed in the first hours of Leopard use:

  • When I close the lid, my Macbook doesn't sleep ... It just locks the computer. I can tell because the light in the front doesn't throb and the computer stays warm, and every few minutes it makes a small noise from the DVD drive.
  • My keyboard doesn't work. Yep, that's right, I can't type unless I turn on my Bluetooth keyboard or plug in a USB one. Maybe I didn't check off an option but this is pretty ridiculous.
  • Animations are choppier, but then again I'm using a MB and not a MBP or Mac Pro for that matter.
  • I was able to install it off a USB drive (not Firewire).
  • Upgrading went smoothly, though now with these problems I'm having I might have to Archive & Install a fresh copy.

Please advise if you know anything about the keyboard. I wasn't able to find anything on Google.

My VISA card was charged on Tuesday! At least the amount was booked for this transaction.
I don't have to answer to you. Its my fault that I wanted all of you to get heads up information on Leopard.
You are arrogant, not me. You are behaving as if I killed someone. I won't lose any more time with you.
This thread is all about Leopard, not your ideas about whats legal or not.

Look! The emperor's not wearing any clothes.

We appreciate the info, but you still did something you were not authorized to do, no matter how much you try to rationalize it. If you shoplift, then offer to pay for it later, you still have shoplifted. Get it?

Jeez, let it go. You're acting like those self righteous Prius drivers who drive the exact speed limit in the express lanes of SoCal and have no one in front of them and a parade of cars behind them.

Nah, when I speed (which is often), I admit it!! (Isn't there too much traffic there to speed?!!?)

Looking forward to Leopard . . .

My Macbook sleeps when the I close the lid. The performance is also better than with Tiger. Keyboard works also. I installed it over Tiger.

You made up the shoplifting analogy yourself and are now complaining people don't agree with it. I think it's a poor one anyway. People frequently go into shops and walk out with items on "Buy now, pay later" deals. This would be more accurate for what this guy has done.

Anyway, who cares? At the end of the day he's paid or paying. Apple get the same amount of money, he gets a copy of Leopard on his machine... who cares? It's petty, let it go.

Here are a few things I've noticed with Leopard on my PowerBook G4:

* Mail, Safari and Finder all crashed within the first 10 minutes of use, but not anymore after that.
* My laptop originally came w/ two 256MB sticks, one of which I replaced with a 1GB stick from NewEgg. Oddly, only the non-Apple RAM is being recognized. Perhaps Leopard doesn't recognizes 256MB sticks anymore? Seems odd, since it worked under Tiger.
* Microsoft Word takes FOREVER to open! But everything else seems faster and more responsive.
* The 3D dock is retarded. Changed it to the 2D one using that little tip on Daring Fireball.

Some remarks after using Leopard on an alu iMac.

- Hotmail does not work anymore in Mail using the httpmail-hack (but that was something to be expected of course - third party issues hmm).
- Front Row sux now IMHO, in the old version the music kept playing, even if you left Front Row, now it suddenly stops just by going to a different menu.
- Spotlight is finally as fast as it has should have been.
- You can not browse further when selecting a map in a stack folder. It just opens the map in the finder. Although it might have been too complicated to implement it anyway.
- The transparency in the menu can indeed be confusing sometimes.
- I like some little things that Apple has changed, i.e. when pressing command-shift-4 to make a screenshot you see which pixels you are selecting.
- and of course Safari is snappier ;)

Front Row Problem

hey all.
I'm having problems in front row. When i'm trying to play a video with a .srt file, everything is fine, but I get a black screen with sound playing as soon as the first subtitle should be displayed. It's really weird since everything works fine in quicktime player... Maybe a problem of perian not being leopard ready ?
Anyone having the same problem ?
I'm from France so please excuse my english :)
Thanks :)

His CC was charged for Leopard, Apple lost no property, and he has his goods. How is that shop lifting?

Next you bring in the laughable concept of authorization. Please explain this to me? Everyone must get authorization directly from Apple to run their software? Please tell me how I go about this, my DVD comes tomorrow and I want to waste as little time as possible.

For the people that have Leopard installed already are any of you having problems with Quicksilver sitting in the dock even though in the pref its select not to. I made sure I had the show icon in dock unchecked although it still sits there and I when I try to update QS it just stalls and doesn't do anything.

Installing from scratch

Hoping to receive my copy of Leopard today (Friday). I want to reinstall from scratch and anew, but obviously I want to keep my stuff.

Anyone know the best way to backup and restore:

- iTunes library
- iPhoto library
- etc

Presumably also to reinstall iLife 08 I could use my MacBook disk and use the 'Install bundled software' option AFTER Leopard? That would work, right?

Thanks in advance.

iBackup is an option.

To follow up, I've been having problems with my Macbook and Leopard all day. For starters, I still haven't gotten the keyboard problem resolved. I searched high and low and this appears to be an isolated case. I tried booting in safe mode and my keyboard didn't work there either. It detects the Keyboard / Trackpad in System Profiler, though (weird).

Also, to remedy the sleep problem I tried resetting the PRAM and turning off "safe sleep" in Terminal. The latter caused my computer to endlessly cycle wake-sleep patterns when the lid was closed. When I put the setting back and rebooted, Leopard didn't detect my battery. I turned my MB upside down too see the battery lights all lit up (without me pressing them). I took the magsafe connector out and the system shut off.

So far Leopard has claimed two victims in my Macbook, the keyboard and the battery :(

I'd hate for you to waste your time tomorrow! Perhaps I was not clear -- by ordering Leopard, he argues that he was allowed (authorized/entitled) by Apple to download an unauthorized copy of the software that was, no doubt, illegally posted on the web. I really don't care if folks copy software they should not; I really don't care if someone buys a single license copy and puts it on 10 machines. I do care when someone comes to a forum, lies about obtaining a copy from an insider at Apple, then when completely owned, makes a bogus claim that using an illegally obtained, unauthorized copy of Leopard is justified by subsequently paying for a license. You really can't put the toothpaste back into the tube. I certainly appreciate his experience with Leopard - it answered quite a few questions.

You may now use your DVD upon receipt (hopefully at 10.31AM after delivery) -- my mailroom (also in DC) is a bit slow in getting our packages to us. I'll be waiting patiently as well.

Enjoy...

What REALLY gets me is the fact that all those crooked developers in Cupertino have been using copies of Leopard WAY before its release, and to add insult to injury, do so without even paying for it. The nerve!

After using RSS feeds in Mail.app for the last two days, I can say that I am disappointed. They dont work so well like in Safari. Updating seems to be a problem and many times they disappear from Mail. Restarting Mail seems to temporarily fix the problem but that makes me use Safari as the default RSS reader

RSS is only done right in one app. NetNewsWire Lite :D

Double ouch. Now I do want to wait before do the upgrade. :(

I'm running 10.5 on a PM G5 Quad 2.5GHz. Everything working fine so far. Seems a lot more efficient, Safari especially.

One feature I just noticed is when you're using the HELP search, it points to certain features in response to your search query. For example, while in Safari, click HELP and search for "Tab", then hold the mouse cursor over one of the Menu Item results.

I had that happen to my MacBook quite often in Tiger. I just now closed my lid for the first time since installing Leopard and it went to sleep perfectly. Of course, this is just one time so far.

Clearly mine works. This is weird...

Yup, I think I'd give that a shot if I were you. I did a clean install, myself (even repartitioned the drive - my aftermarket drive was set up with Apple Partition Map and the installer balked) and haven't had any issues.

I feel really bad for you guys having problems installing Leopard. This is my first OSX update (a recent switcher) and the upgrade went without a hitch. I'm really impressed at how painless it was.

In fact it fixed many things. My computer used to whine at me when I put my Mac to sleep with external HDDs connected over a hub, now it works fine!
