OS X BraZil reports that Apple today seeded a new version of Mac OS X 10.6.2, known as Build 10C531, to developers. The new update reportedly fixes the one outstanding issue related to Image Capture detailed in the previous build released last Friday, as well as a half dozen other issues related to ColorSync, Dock crashes, GraphicsDrivers, and QuartzCore. No remaining outstanding issues are documented by Apple.

We noted yesterday that the user guide for Apple's new Magic Mouse makes reference to Mac OS X 10.6.2, suggesting that Apple is building direct support for the new mouse into the update and expects to release it in the near future. Users running earlier versions of OS X (10.5.8 through 10.6.1) will have to install a separate software update to support the Magic Mouse.

Mac OS X 10.6.2 also reportedly fixes a serious bug that has resulted in some users losing all data from their login accounts.

I say either this Friday or Tuesday of next week.

Seems like it should be a really important upgrade. Anyone got the official release notes and size (MB) of this build?

I fail to understand how that is supposed to be reassuring to anyone upgrading to Snow Leopard, as all the retail SL discs are 10.6.0, and OS X of course has no "slipstreaming" capability where updates can be merged into a full install dvd.

Eventually this fix will make its way into Retail copies of SL.

I agree.. Any buyer should try to get the refreshed DVDs at retail and the 10.6.0 discs should be recalled.

However, the bug is unlikely (can't say 0%!) to hit you if you just upgrade, login to your normal account, and then do Software Updates. Since Apple hasn't released ANY info on the bug, no one can say, so being extra cautious is certainly not foolish.

Is Mail & Safari fixed....

Go to this site.... http://radar.weather.gov/Conus/full_loop.php
Loading will take 12 seconds plus to complete
Animation will take nearly 2 minutes to happen
User input will be delayed about a second from real time
CPU usage will spike to 50% plus
MBP fans will hit 6,000 rpm

Both problems have existed for a couple of years.

I hope the error 109 in TM is fixed so I can upgrade BACK to SL. I hated having to "downgrade" to 10.5.8. If I see notes that the error 109 is fixed, I will be upgrading to 10.6.2 that very night.

I have no issues with this site. Loaded fairly fast and CPU/Fans didn't jump.

Explain that one please?

Apparently the bug has only hit a few people.

You have no info on the bug but yet you want to recall the product. Nice.

There are lots of reasons to update an install disk but this isn't one of them. Especially when the fix will be on the net in a few days. Any good tech knows to apply all manufacture patches before reinstalling the user environment.

I don't see those long delays, but performance is greatly reduced. But I have seen that site before, in comparison to Firefox 3.5 I think. Firefox doesn't have the delays. I think the issue is due to a difference in how each browser implements large images, in connection with their scrolling implementation. Firefox only updates the visible section, Safari is probably updating the non-visible sections so the video card or OS can handle the scroll. Bug or not? I don't know.

I think it's pretty reassuring to know that it's fixed! I also heard a rumour somewhere that these days you can distribute your updates as patches that any user can download with a working internet connection....

LOL.... I heard the same rumor too....

That would be sufficient to recall an entire model year of cars, if they were killing people, which this is the digital equivalent of.

It's not that I have no info. Nobody has any info, because Apple refuses to acknowledge the problem. Oh, yeah, they whisper to CNet that they are aware of it and working on it. But they don't tell anyone what the problem is, what causes it, if there is any recovery, nothing. If you want to raise the issue of lack of information, go bark at Apple.

This is Macintosh. Users aren't techs. It Just Works. It is just as likely a user will trigger the bug before they ever get notified of updates, as not.

Data loss is not a serious enough issue, even if it affects a small # of people?

Being "good tech" has no choice in the matter, since the bug is in the 10.6.0 retail installer DVD. If 10.6.2 is indeed a fix, then it's only relevant if you can obtain an DVD with 10.6.2.

What they may be able to do is issue a patch for Leopard that would help address the issue, then you can just run the patch before installing 10.6.0 SL update from your retail DVD.

Weird. Intel thing? My Pismo, at 500Mhz with 384MB RAM displays fine, if not a little choppy due to sheer size. But animation started pretty quick after downloading the massive data set.

This should firm up SL as being the best OS release from Apple in years.

I've been very pleased with SL so far and I'm excited that this update will hopefully squish a the few problems that SL does have.

I've been running in 64 bit mode on an early 2008 MBP and it's working great. What I'm really hoping for is updates to the development tools and scripting environments. XCode is buggy as hell! Further they need to install Python3.1. I'm a big fan of Python and prefer it to just about any other Unix scripting language.

Cool, still looking forward to it. Friday would be cool. Will be a bit miffed if stack sorting isn't fixed. The equivalent with folders stored in the dock sorted just fine for the first 8 years of OS X.
