Any thoughts on if/how much the price of Leopard will drop once Snow Leopard is out? I've got a Powerbook that's still running Tiger, and I'd love to upgrade it to Leopard, but it hasn't really been worth it up to this point because it's a secondary computer that doesn't get that much use. But a decent drop in price would perhaps make it worth while. Any thoughts?

i dont think that they would drop it(however ebay and whatnot would probably drop it), you could wait 5 years for them to give it away for free like they did with OS 9

I really don't think that Leopard will drop in price - in fact there is no guarantee that Apple will still stock them in stores.

Fair enough. I'll scour the ebay listings and see what pops up. Thanks.

Links? How are you going to parallelize a single threaded process without parallelizing it in the first place?

After some searching, it seems I put the "single-threaded" part in all by myself. I was just assuming/blindly hoping these apps would benefit from the magic of GCS, and they'd be faster on a 2.66 Octo, than on a 2.93 Quad machine. That bubble needed to be popped, so thanks for setting things straight.

Free? So, if I were to, err...torrent the OS 9 ROMs for running it in a VM, that wouldn't be illegal?

Cool. :)

What about those of us using tiger, stupid enough not to upgrade to leopard and go straight to 10.6. How much do we have to pay? If it`s 29 + 129 for leopard then I m gonna kick myself so hard...... I could have just bought the damn thing when it was launched and simply upgraded it now.

There's a special offer for Leopard + Snow Leopard + iWork + iLife.

It's Apple's hypocrisy at its finest.

I love Apple products but completely loathe the corporation. "Think Different" was without a doubt their best advertising campaign. It's sad to see them go from such a high point to such low ground, doing nothing but endless mud-slinging and put-downs.

At least Apple doesn't tell any Netbook manufacturers that selling Netbooks with Linux is a bad idea (if you ever intend selling Netbooks with Windows as well, or if you don't like to be in court for some reason or other).

In fairness to MS, the manufacturers kind of figured out that selling Linux based Netbooks was a bad idea because as soon as XP based ones appeared hardly anyone wanted them. That's supply and demand, not pressure from MS.

As for Apple I increasingly agree - the products remain largely great but the hype and the spin is begining to disgust me.

They also had more netbooks with Linux returned than with Windows, because many people got the cheaper one not really understanding what they were buying.

That's because Apple doesn't just sell electronics, they try to sell a way of living...

Leopard upgrade

Though my machine (Intel 13" white MacBook) already had Leopard installed I wanted to upgrade 3 machines in my family that had Tiger. I figured I'd just wait until Snow Leopard came out then buy a Family pack & upgrade all machines. Pleasant surprise came with the Apple announcement of the $29/$49 for all Leopard OS users. I went ahead & purchased a NEW Family Pack Leopard on eBay & killed 2 birds with 1 stone. Apple is really improving their attitude towards owners who keep coming back. Could this be because Tim Cook is running the place?
