I kind of understand why both those major updates won't have GCD/OpenCL and that it'll be another couple of years for it to take advantage of SL.

Apple has a lot of excellent teams working all the time, they probably don't depend on each other to finish stuff. Imagine if Apple had to delay SL til next year?

The Final Cut and Logic teams probably were working constantly regardless of the OS development, only taking advantage of the new APIs AFTER the OS is released.

I think Apple is wise enough that it trust all of its teams to develop products according to their own schedule. If one or two major teams depend on other teams, it would create a chain reaction of massive delays and loss of momentum for those teams.

At least Apple is dropping prices on those software, which is always good.

Does anybody have the history of iWork and iLife releases? I believe that both get released at Macworld every year right? So we might see them before or after Jan considering there is no more Macworld.

Film effects as a battleground for the CPU vs GPU battle. Interesting to see a business angle for this. http://online.wsj.com/article/SB124873282919984939.html

All of the iLife programs could benefit quite a bit from Snow Leopard, I would think. Maybe we'll see that this January, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was the next version after that, either.

I am just hoping iMovie gets at least GCD. I hate the importing on one core only.

So we have something to look forward this Jan, but there's no Macword which means either a special event or a silent update like yesterday's updates.

I don't think they would do that. Then again, they did just do it yesterday for what seems to be a pretty extensive update to the pro apps.

Though another thing I'm wondering is whether they would implement the SL changes in iLife '10, because of potentially burning normal Leopard users, unless they made a if SL/then performance upgrades or two different versions of the software. At $30, however, I really don't think they should have many regrets shutting off Leopard support, especially when nobody NEEDS the updates that iLife '10 will/could bring.

I think Apple will do a special event for both iLife and iWork because of the consumer market being larger than the Pro market, almost everybody use iLife on their Macs. From what I see, there were a lot of cool new features for FCS and Logic that could benefit from a special event.

I am thinking Apple will bundle iLife with SL for much cheaper than 129$ if they decide to do Snow leopard only version of iLife.

Looks like a new build every friday and 3 seeds in a row that's available over Software Update.

Anybody thinking that Apple is doing this on purpose or is this the norm? I am thinking Apple will eventually stop the seed over SU and release a new SL image and then again seed updates over the software update.

Can't wait to see if there are any UI tweaks in this seed.

Well, so far - 10A421 is a similar size to the last seed from 10 days ago, at roughly 740MB.

As per 9to5mac.com Quicktime 10.0 (51) has a new icon, but it was already there on previous build, right?
So

No, it was not there in the previous build. It's new in 421, and it's different from what was shown at WWDC. It was darker and purple, not blue.

Also the kernel is done, it's not in the beta stage now.

Can anyone speak to the extent of Exchange 2003 support in SL? I know it says 2007 but the iPhone says that as well and it works decently. I so.... want to let M$ office go to AppZapper but can't without basic exchange support. Thanks all.

I have noticed something bad with this last 10A421a build :

Some animation are smoother (like opening a disk's window in the Finder for the first time), but some have disapeared, and nice ones that make Snow Leopard that particular !

Like, when you select something on your desktop : you have the colored halo around the text… with previous builds, when this selection was passed on the background (you clicked on an opened finder's window as an example), it passed from colored to grey with a nice transition animation…
But not anymore ! :(
Now its exactly like in actual Leopard : direct passage from color to grey… too bad they desactivated it…

Please don't post full image, just either create a thumbnail or post the link to it.

@t0mat0, i updated the SL release info as it missed the 10a394 and had the wrong date for 10a411a.

Does anybody know if the permissions repair bug is fixed in SL? The bug is that even after you repair permissions, there are still maybe a dozen items that do not get fixed.

I apologize if this is the wrong place to ask this.

That's not a bug. It's just informative messages, not something wrong. (I haven't checked to see if it's changed though; I guess it would at least worry people less)

But even if you do it twice in a row, some things aren't actually fixed. I have the same ones that need to be fixed, but they won't correct themselves. It is a bug. I'll start one running and post the ones that don't repair themselves in a few minutes, seeing as I can't find an internet reference ATM.

Edit: I found another who had a similar problem here

The bug is fixed in this build for me.

It is possible to get a corrupted permission db. Happens sometime when doing several kernel updates in a row, things just get screwed up along the way but so far, i did not get any of that stuck permission issue in this build.

Good to know, thanks.

For reference, the ones not fixed the second time are here in code tags to shorten the length of the post:

Put back is GONE!

I just noticed now.. putback is gone!!

EDIT: Oops, no it isn't. It just doesn't let me do putback on one folder. Huh.

Have the made improvements to Finder and how it works? It really needs to be overhauled.

I think they eluded at WWDC that they were "pretty happy" with the way it was. (which boggles the mind).

I'd give my left testicle for a file "cut & paste".

I can see why they don't do "cut n paste" in the finder. It's easy to copy something to the clipboard and then forget it's there.

I'd like an easy way to have a two paned window in the finder where I can simply control drag files and folders to the proper location. Accomplishes pretty much the same thing as cutting and pasting.

The Finder is what it is. A way to navigate folder hierarchy. I don't see really how it can improve drastically without becoming overly complex. I've got Forklift and Pathfinder and they offer the type of power user complexity that many crave but they'd be overkill for most users IMO.
