Sorry, your history doesn't support you contention. Vista is a re-write. Just because it's big doesn't mean it is in any way the same tangled mess of Windows 98 or XP because it isn't revision n of the same old OS.

Vista is a big bloated pig, but not in the way way that past MS OSes were.

Vista is also a slick OS when given enough physical resources. Vista has been met with luke-warm response so far but I suspect it will be the must have after SP1 later this year. Under all that useless eye-candy there are a lot of solid under-the-hood features that we plan to use, like significantly improved User Directory syncing and root-less terminal server windows, just like in xWindow.

Oh, almost forgot.. I'll think of that "rock solid and proven foundation" the next time my Network stack or Finder hang my machine up. Just because the foundation is solid.. that doesn't mean the wall don't have cracks.

ffakr.

what is it my kids used to say? oh yes. AS IF!

the only thing that would be released by the end of march is a release date and the "top secret" programs they are including in leopard...thats pretty much what i've gotten from reading other posts

I don't think there are going to be any top secret features anymore.

unfortunately I think that you may be right. At least I don't expect them to be anything major. Well it may end up saving me some money if i am right.:(
I do hope that we are wrong though.

me to cause really what will steve talk about for 2hrs if lepoard comes out at before wwdc new macpros?

Am I right in thinking that OS X 10.4 was released before WWDC 2005 but was still heavily discussed during the WWDC?

i belive they d want this so that people have at least somek nowledge of what the heck he is talking about. i say maybe 2-3 weeks b4 WWDC?

Yea I would say late April, early to mid May?
Apple will be more then happy to publicise the sale figures and how many developers and the speed in which they have adopted the Leopard technologies.

I'm taking the financial statement route... they will announce at the end of march/very early april because they want to have as much time in that quarter to account for that revenue. announcing in may would only leave 2/3 to 1/3 of the quarter for software sales.

this assumes their quarters are aligned on jan-feb-mar , apr-may-jun, etc..

Leopard release: the true story

I'm probably not the first person who mentioned this, but here I go anyway:

The first release of Mac OS X was on March 24, 2001. I'm pretty sure Apple would like to celebrate this sixth birthday with posting new information about the next generation of his OS. I know it's on a Saturday, but believe me: they will update the Apple website on that day and then all you guys can see what beautiful new features there will be.

But don't expect that the release will before June. It's just not going to happen!
