How about "How to use Google" - that'll solve a lot of people's problems.

Yeah, not sure why people don't do it, or why people don't even bother looking at the recently posted threads.

All videos should be like rickroll, except it's this is how you google... =p

I think my next video will be on creating encrypted fisk images for safe keeping of files.

Or otherwise known as "How to hide shady files"...

Good topics on there, r.j.s!
Well thought out and nicely done. I have some friends who are interested in Macs and these will help them to see "how it's done".
Thanks for doing these. :)

nice r.j.s these will be good to link to as video substitutes of the MacRumors Guides. you have a good narrative voice keep it up!

Thanks. I've been making it up as a I go, which has been causing my voice to waver a bit at times, so I have been thinking about recording it while leaving time to speak - then scripting it and recording the voiceover during editing.

The problem with that method is that I may not leave enough time to say what I need, or I may leave too much time and either have to edit it out or fill the space.

just talk about what you are about to do then say how to do it when you are doing it… err i hope that makes sense :D.

can i suggest a configuring of a clean Leopard install video? you could make a new account and then talk about mouse speed, right click for trackpad and Mighty Mouse, Finder window view options, Desktop icons and wallpaper etc. and even recommended installs like Perian, Flip4Mac, Onyx and other cool apps. even make videos about iLife… endless possibilities!

It makes sense, and that's what I have been doing (without any kind of script, just however it pops into my head at the moment) - I just don't like how I pause or waver while I think about the next step ... and there is always the possibility that I forget something important.

Maybe notes as I'm recording would work better than a script. I tend to sound dry when working from a script ... well, more dry than I do now.

It's something I'll work on ...

Good idea. Anything specific?

I've never used Automator but I'd like to see the tutorial :D .... can we use it to batch process a bunch of .JPGs and change the file names? I'm not sure if we can do it ... but that'd be great!

Also I think a good topic for tutorials is using Plex and adding coverart 'n stuff so that we can play basically any type of files thrown at it. I just got converted to Plex from Front Row :D .... I think its awesome but has some learning curve to it while adding skins and coverart goes ... so I think that'd be a great topic :)

It can. I will cover it.

I'd have to learn Plex first.

hey r.j.s would you be able to cover "using external monitors", things such as changing the menu bar to the external monitor, and moving the external monitor around (so you can put the mouse to the right/left/top/bottom and side and it changes to the other monitor)? i have seen a few people asking this.

Would love to, but I don't have any monitors laying around.

I just got a mic, so I can record better audio, and I'm working on the Automator tutorial now ... it's takes you through selecting a folder of images, renaming, resizing and finally packing them into a zip file.

It should be done in a few hours.

Automator video finished ...

This is the first one recorded using my new mic ... I ended up getting the BLUE Snowflake, mostly because of the size. I want portability more than anything else.

^^^^^ looking and and sounding very nice ;)

a lot of people are also asking about viewing/sharing files on a PC over the network and/or vice versa (e.g. viewing PC files on a mac). maybe you could do a video of how to do that? (if you have access to a PC of course..)

I've always wondered about Automator but have never worked with it. I'll have to watch this video later today. Thanks.
I really like those hard drive icons on your screen too!
