I'm resisting the urge to click the buy button.

Where am I going to pull up with 3,000 when the bill comes? :p

I am sure we will see something between this beast and the Mac mini using Core 2 duo. Just a matter of time (Paris?).

I am really close to purchasing the Mac Pro but it bothers me that when I receive it in September, Clovertown will be a month or so away from release, placing it in the Mac Pro no later than Macworld. That's a MAXIMUM of three and a half months after receiving my $3000 computer. How come so few people here seem concerned with this fact? I don't want to rain on anyone's parade, the Mac Pro is a killer machine and I really am close to buying it myself, but the Clovertown release is holding me back more than any other.

So any confirmations from any sources about using any standard PCI-E graphics
card in the mac pro? http://www.nvidia.com/object/IO_30459.html
This product overview does mentioned tt OS X is supported by the 7000 series cards, so hopefully any 7000 series cards will just work in the mac pro?

This site oso says tt the 5000X chipset supposedly supports SLI, but i cannot verify tt from other sources? Does this spell the arrival of dual graphics to the Mac!? That will be great for gamers.....

I'm With You YoYoMa • Waiting For Clovertown • Need 8 Cores Really Bad

You are not alone. If you need support feel free to message me any time. I am waiting for Clovertown x 2 and I agree with you it will happen at the MacWorld SF '07 January 9 SteveNote. 2007 is gonna be the year that everything goes Quad and Oct that can. I forsee an iMac redesign that gets Kentsfield throughout and maybe even the top Mini will get it as well.

So be patient with me - of course I do have the 15% slower G5 Quad to fall back on - and we'll pull the trigger together on Dual Clovertowns in January. :D

Hmm, I would understand the lack for front row more if the MacBook Pro did not have it, but since it does and this doesn't I'm a tad confused. Most people who need this machine probably wouldn't see the lack of Front Row as a deal breaker though, so it's sort of a non-issue.

Well, if someone hasn't said this already, I think that is becuase the new Apple Displays have yet to be released.

There really isn't any point in putting an IR in this...Rather put it in the dispaly...

Lower Display Pricing Supports The Theory New Displays Are Coming Sooner Than Later

The new aggressive lower pricing on the Displays would support your theory. Only time will tell.

The Apple 30" @ $1999 or $1799 refurb is seriously competitive with Dell's 30" @ $2199.

Does anyone really use front row or photo booth?

I for one don't really care to see what is in front of my computer blazened in sepia or some new photo effect. What good is it really?

And how many people are so lazy that they need a remote to control, itunes or DVD player when they are most likely sitting right there in front of the computer with their hands on a keyboard or mouse?

Apple doesn't need to put these features on a workstation level machine like the MacPro. I can't even see why you would want it on a MacBook or MacBook Pro.

About the only device that makes sense is a Mac mini. Which is so small and neat that you could use it with your stereo system or over-sized monitor as a controller in your component stand.

Can't say I would... My 12" Powerbook obviously doesn't have it. I'll have to wait until I make a laptop upgrade, which won't be for several years, being as I just bought the Powerbook a year ago.

The Mac Pro will sit in the computer room and be mostly used as an video and film editing station / graphic design / sound design / DVD creation, etc. Most of my crucial media lives on my laptop (all my iPhotos and music, which is on a G-Tech Mini FW hard drive...)

Now, with all that said, as long as Apple creates an Airport Express with VIDEO as well as audio, Front Row really serves no purpose to me, as I can control all that from my laptop...

Bottom Of Line MacBook Pro With Dual DVI Could Drive A 30" For TV With EyeTV2 = $4k

I can think of one application the Mini can't fulfill. Bottom Of Line MacBook Pro Refurb - currently $1549 - With Dual DVI Could Drive an $1699 Refurbed 30" Display For a Super TV With EyeTV2 and a $250 EyeTV 500 tuner. It's about a $4000 setup including a big FW400 HD. But it would be an ultimate media center setup that might be less money next year. :)

I prefer drving my EyeTV with a Quad G5. Transcoding the recordings down to MP4 is possible in a decent amount of time - too much time. But it's all but a full time job for a Video Junkie. That's why Videoholics like me need 8 cores now - for a mundane consumer electronics application. Crazy no?

Photo Booth is a rather silly app. Too much has been written about it that it doesn't really deserve.

Front Row is a nice shell, but I still prefer just mousing around in Finder to find the media I want to consume. FR makes the process simple, but rather limiting too.

Really? Where did you get this information? I haven't seen it anywhere.

That means that if you choose the ATI Radeon X1900 XT you can only have that one and you're limited to 2 displays. Can anyone verify this?

It says on various sites that there is room for 2 Quadro 4500 cards so there is room for 2 double-wide cards

I don't have a card to try or I would.

Something neat to note, once I got windows working, in the nvidia control panel is says that the card is SLI capable, and that I can add another one. The funny part is that there is no SLI connector on the card that came with my Mac Pro.

So, it looks like the chipset supports SLI.

Sorry, had to read through 16 pages. haha. :)

For me, yea I fully intended to use it. I live in a small aparment and have been debating, Mini or Mac Pro.

I nearly got the new Mini when it was released, but had a lot reservations since all it really could be, IMO, was just a media hub.

I really want a media hub that can also do everything else...So, the Mac Pro is looking really nice.

Now I currently have a Sharp Aqous 24" TV and will use that as my Mac Pro monitor....basically waiting for the new displays..

Then again, I can always buy the IR extender...but now we are getting onto a whole new thread.

Bottom line. people will use Front Row with Mac Pro's...

Uh, it would suck for games. The video card leaves ALOT to be desired...but for general workstation things...its pretty good.

I love the Geekbench result using Rosetta it scores faster than my MacBook Pro running natively, that is 1 hell of a computer you have there! I want 1 or 2!

I'm a bit confused on this issue. ATI makes two Quadro 4500 cards. They make the Quadro FX 4500 and the Quadro FX 4500 X2. I thought the difference between these cards were that the FX 4500 had one Dual Link DVI connector for one monitor and that the FX 4500 X2 was a double wide card that supported two Dual Link DVI monitors.

But Apples description of the FX 4500 says that it supports two Dual Link DVI monitors.

So is Apple using the ATI FX 4500 X2 double wide card but just calling it a Quadro FX 4500 option?

Front row would be awesome on a Macbook Pro, and here's why. I hook my powerbook up to my tv and stereo when I want to watch a movie or a downloaded tv show or when I listen to iTunes and I can tell you that having a remote for my setup would be awesome.

If I'm watching a movie and the phone rings I have to get up and pause it. If I'm with a female on the couch listening to iTunes on random and some lame song comes up I have to get up and change it. If I'm watching something else when I'm all alone, a remote would come in very handy.

Bah, I'm jaleous now. I just checked for a config I would like to buy, and it would cost me about 7000 Euro. Then again, I picked a maxed out ( or almost ) config.

Guess I will have to redo the config with a fewer options :p

Regards,

Annunaki

BTW, I don't think it will bother you that much, just turn the MP upside down.:p

I think I am confused. Where are the 6 SATA bays, I see 4

4 for the HD bays, 2 where the Optical drives are. (as in, disconnect your Superdrive and plug in an HD
