Okay, the configuration I want is a little over my budget...

I am quite interested to see they have a rack mount option. 8TB SSD is also coming soon, so I think I'll wait a little.

I mean with that kind of price, is it still competitive compared to other major PC vendors?
Custom will definitely be cheaper, but I'm curious about comparison with a well known PC models like Z workstation.

The version I configured is $13,548.00, although if I were in the market I would personally abstain from purchasing until the 5700XT option is available, or perhaps just fitting the Mac Pro with a third party Polaris GPU: no sense in purchasing a computer in 2019 with a Radeon 580X, and the Vega options are exorbitant and anathema to gaming type workloads anyways. The 24-core CPU isn’t actually a crazy up-charge and I figure that it’s best to get a CPU which offers up to 1.5 TB of RAM as a possibility. Anything above 96 GB of RAM I think is ludicrous as well. And the wheels! ****ing insane at $400. The trackpad option is worth it given that it’s a bespoke color matched trackpad, however.

tbh the RAM is not expensive, searching a 128GB DDR4 ECC costs 1700 pounds = 2240$ x 12 = 26800$ vs 25000$ Apple. This means that Apple finally charges decent amounts for RAM :)

Pretty sad! It's just a computer guys! They've been building them for years! Why so long to get this one out the door? Maybe if they (Tim) FOCUSED on being a COMPUTER company instead of an entertainment, environmental, political company and money oriented company.....they .....oh never mind....Apple INC. is doing great...but fun lovin' Apple Computer is gone!

I wonder what an MPX module will cost outside of a new system.

Need some GPU advice here because my config was not accounting for the Vega II being so ridiculously expensive (whether its price is justified or not.)

I know that Vega II is GCN and W5700x is RDNA, but I'm a video editor that works with 8K R3D files and I don't play games, so I'm curious what advantages RDNA has over GCN aside from the gaming improvements? I assume the W5700x will probably sit in the $1k range, I guess I'm trying to decide if I should wait for that or just purchase the Vega II. Obviously either card will be fantastic but if one is overkill there's no point in purchasing it. Or if their prices will be similar, what advantages are there to waiting?

I'm worried my 2013 Mac Pro trade-in value for Apple's refund program will go down soon since the new Pro arrived, I don't want to wait three months and then lose that refund...not sure how far off the W5700x is. Maybe just stick with the 580x and swap it out? Any advice is appreciated!

I keep looking at the price for one Radeon Vega Pro with 32 gb ($2400) compared to the price for two of them ($5200).

What am I missing here?
The up-charge for the single card includes the price of the radeon 580x card (or whatever apple budgeted for it. You are only paying an additional $2400 on top of what the radeon 580x costs.
