The absolute earliest you'll see any Sandy Bridge chips at all is 2010. But Intel has stated repeatedly that it will update architecture every 2 years. Meaning Sandy Bridge will debut 2 years from the debut of Nehalem. That means late 2010, possibly even Jan 2011.

Just because Intel says 2010 for Sandy Bridge doesn't mean you'll see it in 2010. It's somewhat dependent on when the previous architecture debuts. If there are production hangups, problems with the design, etc. that pushes it back further.
Apparently Westmere and Sandy Bridge will be released at the start of 2010 and 2011 respectively.

kntgsp have you got a be up your ass or something?

Calm down, you haven't got a clue as to what will happen just like the rest of us. You only have your opinions as we only have ours.

4) If sandy bridge is a entirely different architecture just like nahalehm is compared to core2duo, what is the incentive to buy a new mac laptop when they come out in 2009 vs. just waiting another year for sandy bridge? (considering it's a fairly big jump from nahalehm, just like nalalehm is from core2duo)

The incentive of buying now instead of waiting is always the same: You can use it _now_ instead of waiting.

Waiting is a mug's game. If you wait for the next great thing to arrive, by the time it is there, something else is round the corner. If you do that, sometime around 2070 when you are old and grey Apple will announce that they close shop and it's your last chance ever to buy a Macintosh, and you'll be too old and slow to get to the front of the queue so you lose out and _never_ get a Mac. :D

Well that was uncalled for. The name of this site is "MacRumors"; I think we all know there's a fair amount of conjecture thrown in with the information here. I for one have really enjoyed reading this thread.

Will the Mac Pro containing the Nehalem architecture be considered a "Rev 1" product? Do you guys think early adopters will be more likely to get burned? I was about to buy the "Early 2008" Mac Pro when all those sleep/display issues cropped up. It's tough -- you always want to buy early, but you never know what problems you'll have.

Apple sells lots of computers nowadays, and lots of the buyers post on MacRumors if anything goes wrong, especially when there is a new model and it is news. If anyone buys a Nehalem system in the first week they are shipping, and anything goes wrong, they will post here and it will big news and everyone says "don't buy Revision A, Apple quality control is poor" and so on and so on. If anyone buys an identical system one year later, and something goes wrong, nobody is interested, nobody posts, and everyone says "these Macs are absolutely stable, nobody complains, all problems fixed".

An awful lot is peoples perception and posting behaviour and has nothing to do with the actual quality of the machines. If anyone sees anything wrong with colours on the screen and posts, suddenly everyone has problems with their colours If someone posts that his machine runs hot, suddenly all the Macs develop heat problems.

Whether or not you wait for Sandy Bridge over Nehalem depends on how long you want to keep using your Core2Duo. It's akin to individuals who have Pentium D's waiting until Nehalem. Do you know many people who still use Pentium D's?

No. How many? Also, like I mentioned in my post, is the upgrade from nahalem to sandy bridge as significant, exciting and important as core2duo is to nahalem? Worth waiting for? ( Do you personally think it's worth waiting for?)

If you're planning to wait three years for a computer, you don't need it. It won't be as significant. Core to Core 2 wasn't drastic.
