Looks like 10.8.5 got back most of the score lost in 10.8.4;)

My 1,1

3GHz Quad
500GB SATA Boot Drive
ATI X1900XT
8GB RAM

I'm jealous of some of these scores!

Yeh I agree it's a bit confusing... everywhere I've seen listed the memory speed is 8x or 1066MHz, but on my EVGA SR-2 board with everything on auto/defaults it lists at 1333MHz which is 10x.

As you can see from my other GB2 results with everything on default stock settings OSX recognizes it as 1333MHz.

Ok so the mystery further unfolds... when installed in a genuine mac pro the memory speed shows as 1066MHz

Hi

Resurrecting a thread, as I'm about to flash and cpu upgrade a 4,1. I have a chance to buy these x5679, but as there's so few people who've done so I would like to know more.

How do we know about the memory speed when these are put into an actual mac?

May I know is there any reason for you to pick this CPU? It's cheap?

^^^^They should work fine. The only downside I see is that the max RAM speed is 1066MHz vs. 1333MHz for the other three PNs you mentioned. They are rated @ 3.2GHz

Any idea how I would be impacted by that in the real world? I have read that the speed difference is 25% on paper/theory, more like 2/3% in practice

Down the page under "ram rules"

Does that impact single thread speed? Do you think I'd even notice?
