I've yet to see a store with Mac Pros unavailable at "
reserve and pickup". Unless a bunch of people start posting that they are seeing "unavailable" mac pros, it would seem that there is no truth to this rumor.
So... is anyone having luck or is this rumor dead?

My impression is that there might have been a hiccup in supply lines, or it's entirely possible that Apple spotted the story, and did some backstage "adjusting" to squash the rumor. Took a few looks about and availability has returned to normal everywhere I checked. As we well know, Apple likes to keep things close to the chest. And there were precious little supporting rumors out there at all.
Either way, I honestly was not expecting a MacPro update until
after the annual September iPod love fest, and possibly even after the next iMac and iPad updates. Also the rather unclear rollout cycle of Intel's next workstation/server class chips, does not signal serious new tech for the Mac Pro anytime soon.
The Mac Pro does not seem to be any kind of priority for Apple (read: Steve J) since the ascendancy of the iPhone and the iPad and their full on pursuit of the "consuming" computer user. Seriously, I have not seen much in the way of Pro gear in an Apple store in years, except for the lonely one or two Mac Pros neglected in the corner. Meanwhile, there are entire WALLS of iPod and iPhone gear. And unless you are into shopping iThing Central, I don't even set foot into an Apple Store between September and the Holidays. I don't think they're going to discontinue the Mac Pro's, but I don't think they're going to get a lot of attention either. Much like Apple's continuing neglect of the Creative community that used to be their most loyal and enthusiastic users.
May be just as well. For this Creative Pro, I am dragging my heels on upgrading my iron till I get a Photoshop/Illustrator/InDesign file I can't open, then have to spring for the Adobe CS5 upgrade and I am forced to get a new box
to run it. Yes, would be the
$600 upgrade that costs $3500.
And please stop even worrying about Blu-ray. Steve doesn't like Blu-ray has very publicly stated his preference for streaming HD so it ain't gonna happen. Move on.
