Do you think there is enough power for the 2009 model (Nehalem) low-end one for my needs? I can buy one for 2249 instead of 2449. I do really heavy photoshopping as well as final cut HD video editing.

you would want an 8-core machine if your a heavy user, no doubt??

I don't want to perform surgery on a newborn.

It would also be an expensive endeavor. I also did not realize at the time I purchased that I was getting a 3500 series without 1333 memory. I think I would have held off if I realized it then. But the 3580 looks like a 5500 to me and would have been well worth the wait. It's my own fault and it's out of my hands now.

its an easy update. the quad core machines are easy to do - there is a thread around here somewhere.

the difference is just power consumption and slightly different clocks AFAIK?

Besides you can use a BD burner for storing data and video in a non DRM format but honestly, hard drives are so cheap why ever use an optical media type again, except for holographic discs maybe?

Hard drives are way more volatile. If I need a backup of something important I'm not going to store it only on drives...
