Don´t forget to put me and my 5 year old PC on the list! :)

No more waiting

I'm no longer waiting. Instead, I will use my 2x2 G5 until it physically dies. I have an X800 coming.

It doesn't seem like an 8-core machine will be here until mid to late 2008.

Plus after Apple's lockdown on the iPhone, I don't feel like giving them any more $

Well apparently liquidstereo missed the part about Apple buying up all the Harpertown processors. He's just speculating.

Anyhow, if there is no Mac Pro update with Leopard, or thereabouts, I am not going to buy one at all. I'll build myself a quad-core system and use an "alternative" operating system ;) This "alternative" operating system already works on my AMD setup.

If Intel continues to offer Apple the option of debuting new CPUs before anyone else or even offering unannounced CPUs, I would think Apple will eagerly take advantage of the opportunity.

Mind if I pull up a chair?

I'm a soon-to-be switcher, currently using a Dell Dimension 9150 with a dual-core 2.8 GHz Pentium D, 2.5 GB RAM, 300 GB hard drive, 19" Dell LCD display and running Windows XP Pro. I'm looking forward to throwing it all out the window* and buying my first Mac on or shortly after November 15th. (I get a paycheck that day which, in addition to my savings, will allow the purchase of a new Mac.)

Right now I'm on the fence between buying the 24" 2.8 GHz iMac, or the quad-core 2.66 GHz Mac Pro. The iMac looks cool as hell and is more affordable, but the Mac Pro has more muscle and more flexibility. The upcoming changes to the Mac Pro lineup, whatever they are, might make my decision easier.

* or at least selling it on craigslist

It really depends on what you are going to do with the mac. The 2.8 iMac is really fast and will do almost anything as well as a MacPro. There are a few exceptions in the rendering and video editing world but, for the most part, the main advantage to the MacPro is expansion.

I´m waiting for Mac Pro, Aperture and external HDD to come. I´m a Win-user now, but used Macs since 2004 in different situations. Just like to get some power!
