Hi All

If we aren't ready for a wide-gamut world, and the internet does look garish, I for one am happy with the 2408's sRGB setting -

I have a 2408 it's great no probs at all, beautiful screen and great price :)

Damn, I can't wait to get mine, I had 2 of them which were both defective, couldn't send third right away cause ran out of stock, but mine hopefully will be arriving next week.

What was wrong with them?

Dell monitors are crap. Type is fuzzy, colors shift and look like a circus on acid. As one poster opined like fuzzy dice in a beemer or more accurately a beemer parked next to a mobile home.

In the 23- 24" range the acd is hands down better than any crappy plastic dell display to date; there's a lot more to a display than just the panel- backlighting, D/C converters et. al. If you're using a mac pro why not use a real display with wide calibration capabilities like a coloredge? They make the dells displays look an etch -a -sketch

Dell Makes very good Monitors, Some like them better than apple's Dell's are brighter and they aren't fuzzy, The don't have color shift either. Especially the older ones that had S-IPS panels.

Just because it's plastic doesn't mean it's bad.

Its not the plastic, its because its a "Dell." Deal with their customer
hazing department just one time and then you'll know why.

dell 2408 monitor set up for mac pro

I just bought the dell 2408 monitor for my mac pro and I'm not sure if I've set it up correctly.
all the TEXT is ghosting on desktop, internet and word.
It's connected via DVI.
Pictures seem fine, but the text is fuzzy.
Do i need to install drivers? or am i missing something?

Text looks fine on my new 2408FPW... I have Font Smoothing set for automatic since I use mine with an MacBook Pro.

I have a Dell 2407. Two things with it:

1. For the first 2 months it was really hurting my eyes and I couldn't tell why. Then a buddy came over and turned the brightness waaaay down to 15 and it's much better now. This thing is bright!!!

2. The component input doesn't let you use all your native resolution. That is to say, my XBOX 360 and Moto DCT6416 do not recognize the monitor's native resolution. They think it's something like 640 x 400, so anything meant for TV doesn't look that great. I have no idea if they fixed that with the 2408 or not.

im running 2 2405's but i really want 2 23' ACDs so they can match my mac pro tower
but other than that i love having all the realestate lol

Dell 2408 is better

I've got a Mac Pro with one Dell 2408 right beside the ACD and I have to say, the Dell is superior. Now there are some areas where it is not as good. Fonts don't appear as smooth for some reason, and the start up time on the Dell is a little bit slower than the Apple, but all in all, you are getting a better, clearer, more precise image on this particular Dell. The reds are a bit high at first, but once calibrated, you are good to go. The Apple's aren't bad, but in true Apple fashion, they are way over-priced for what you are getting. I'd recommend the 2408 if you are comparing it to the ACD any day.

Holy Thread Ressurection, Batman!!!

Huh?

So PVA > IPS now ????

Even though the cinema displays are old and such, they have IPS panels.

But we sure are glad you woke this battle royale thread from the dead for us.

LOL. :D

The thread's been inactive for awhile, but as the 2408 is still available, it's still relevant. ;)

As far as PVA vs. IPS, in some cases, Yes, it can be better. The circuits can make a major difference. Eizo Nanao comes to mind. :D

Samsung LCD Monitors are hands down better than Dell across the board. I would recommend the Samsung T260 for most bang for the buck. It has a large brilliant display with 20,000 to 1 Contrast Ratio. Don't waste your money on an inferior Dell monitor. You won't regret Samsung.

If you believe it has 20 000:1 contrast your kidding yourself, It has no where close to that. Also Samsung makes dells stuff. There no better possibly worse. They generally have TN panels. As is the one you mentioned.

I love my 23inch Apple Cinema it's great.

But I think it is discontinued because of that new macbook monitor thing.

Goodluck maybe one will show up refurbished.
