They will update it in 2025 and hail it as a new innovation. The wheels will have automatic braking, so when the computer senses it rolling quickly down a hill, it will send a signal to automatically apply the brakes. This will all come from the self driving car tech they are developing.

Can't wait till the refresh! Never buy the first gen!

The 'All Weather Floor Mats' were $250. Why? They had the Mercedes logo

So, what you're saying is that luxury car makers gouge people for extras too... and two wrongs make a right...? Because we all love the way the new car market works, so its really great that Apple are taking a leaf out of their book...

This one have a locks and not even close at 400$, unless Apple version are made from super high end carbon fiber and ceramic bearing wheels.

This wheel are supposed as Dune Pro case caster option (7,1 clone case)

Everyone is missing the point. If you want it to roll freely, you put all four wheels on. If you wanted to lock in place, you only put the rear wheels on, then pick up the front end to roll. The front of the device is a specially reinforced locking mechanism.

I was trying to make the point that Apple must be drinking their own kool-aid. The pro isn't worth that much, and the damn wheels aren't either. The stands? Highway robbery. But I was once told, by a client, that I needed to charge them more, so I did. They were happy as pigs in poop, and I kept them for years. Until they went bankrupt. One can only wonder why.

But the idea that 'Mercedes; floor mats are worth a 200% markup or something is crazy. That a rim should cost over a grand is ridiculous. And they were ugly on top of that!

The Mac Pro is over priced, and likely under engineered. It seems a current fad there. *shrug*

Sorry - thought you were defending them. My bad.

I think, looking at some of the YouTube videos, in some ways, its over-engineered. Heck, the carton that it comes in looks like it costs more than a few bucks (everybody knows that velcro is made from unicorn hide harvested by virgins) although in California you'd probably be able to rent it to junior engineers at $500/month once you'd taken the Mac out...

Then theres the PCIe slot covers made out of solid machined aluminium rather than the usual (and perfectly functional) wafer thin sheet steel.

One of the videos of the rackmount version shows the solid luxury-car-door 'thunk' when the lid is shut... that's reassuring on a car door that you open and close several times a day, and rather want to stay shut when you're pounding down the road at 70mph, but is it really essential on a computer that's going to sit in a rack for 3-5 years before heading to silicon heaven...?

Then there's the Swiss-cheese front panel... maybe it is very quiet but it must cost a fortune to make (if that was a $400 option like the wheels I'd understand it) so darn "quiet" - is it going to play original flute concertos in the stye of Mozart that you can sell tickets to (while letting in every speck of dust)?

Looks to me like some of the money has gone in the wrong places... its all exquisitely made, but on the tower version you can't take the lid off without unplugging all the cables from the back, and what's with the TB3 port and on/off switch being on the top so you can't keep it under a desk...? Then the rackmount version with the memory hatch on the bottom (although it does close almost as melodically as the top cover).

Oh, I haven't looked for videos of the forbidden fruit yet. I'll just want to jump in front of a car to get the settlement from the crash and buy one then. What I'm looking for, halfheartedly, is a used 'trash can' Mac Pro, 'cheap'. If someone has one they want to get rid of, and not toss or recycle, let me know... 😉🤷‍♀️

Its a chair, a mobile scooter and a computer all in one. I wonder if it uses ceramic or titanium ball bearings..hmm

It’s making him a good living so I don’t know if it really is overkill. It’s what he is known for.

Imho it is a overkill. I don't see Marques publishing videos everyday. Definitely making him a very good living indeed, but overkill nevertheless. He's just showcasing latest and greatest. I like that dude, but let's be real.

Those wheels look absolutely silly.

This feels like the kind of thing Steve Jobs would have thrown a fit over.
He would've thrown wheels at the designer/engineer that came up with these.

He brought us the Cube, so I'm not so sure.
The cube was an amazing machine. Sure it had some shortfalls, but if they would've kept developing, it would have become a staple of their lineup.

I almost feel bad for how out of touch they have become under Tim's leadership. Almost.

LOL they are just being "brave". 2 years from now they will have an announcement that they are REMOVING the wheels as part of their innovative ideas and are being "brave" by removing them. Then idiots on this forum and others will bitch at everyone that wheels weren't needed by "Pros" and insist it is better. Le Sigh.
