I was trying to make the point that Apple must be drinking their own kool-aid
Sorry - thought you were defending them. My bad.
The Mac Pro is over priced, and likely under engineered.
I think, looking at some of the YouTube videos, in some ways, its
over-engineered. Heck, the
carton that it comes in looks like it costs more than a few bucks (everybody knows that velcro is made from unicorn hide harvested by virgins) although in California you'd probably be able to rent it to junior engineers at $500/month once you'd taken the Mac out...
Then theres the PCIe slot covers made out of solid machined aluminium rather than the usual (and perfectly functional) wafer thin sheet steel.
One of the videos of the rackmount version shows the solid luxury-car-door 'thunk' when the lid is shut... that's reassuring on a car door that you open and close several times a day, and rather want to stay shut when you're pounding down the road at 70mph, but is it really essential on a computer that's going to sit in a rack for 3-5 years before heading to silicon heaven...?
Then there's the Swiss-cheese front panel... maybe it is very quiet but it must cost a fortune to make (if that was a $400 option like the wheels I'd understand it) so darn "quiet" - is it going to play original flute concertos in the stye of Mozart that you can sell tickets to (while letting in every speck of dust)?
Looks to me like some of the money has gone in the wrong places... its all exquisitely made, but on the tower version you can't take the lid off without unplugging all the cables from the back, and what's with the TB3 port and on/off switch being on the top so you can't keep it
under a desk...? Then the rackmount version with the memory hatch
on the bottom (although it does close almost as melodically as the top cover).
