*UPDATE*

Since my Macs are dying I tried to use my wife's iPad to see if one could replace my Mac use.

I could kill 2 birds with one stone, since I'm on Android but would love the highly touted Apple integration of iPhone & iPad.

I dive right in:

So, my wife has a million open apps, and being the obsessive person I am I wanted to close them all.

Well, there is no Close All button like there is on Android (UN...believable), so I got stuck closing them all one at a time.

Bad Start.

I decide to use the Mail app since that is the first thing I do on log in.

Hmm, cannot add an account from within the app (REALLY???), maybe it's in Settings.

Oh, ok I see Mail in Settings, so in I go. Nope, nothing there....wait! There is a Passwords and Accounts menu in Settings! In I go...

Ok, I have to GUESS that I have to click on Add Account (even if nothing specifies this is for mail), let's see: OK, selected Google, Logged in, select Mail, saved.

Into Mail I go... I found my account, cool, I'm in. Painful, but one-time pain.

Hmm, no option to sort??? I get a lot of junk emails that I delete en-masse...

Argh, I see. I have to use the single most unintuitive methods to still find that I CAN sort (kinda), but not sort by sender??? To the Internet I go, 'cause maybe it's me.

Hmm, I find I have to SEARCH my email by sender, then select all the....where's the search bar the Internet says exists??? Maybe it's at the bottom, nope...lemme go back...nope

BACK to the Internet I go....OOOOOhhh, I have to select an Inbox and scroll down from under the word Inbox, because the search bar is HIDDEN... why didn't I think to do that?!

Hmm, OK the results give me more than the sender I'm looking for (I searched for eamils from Google). Fine, let's delete them all...I don't see that option... to the Internet... NO.

NO. NO. NO. NO.

This is just 2 very BASIC things. Absolutely painful. I refuse to put up with it. Is this the touted Apple (or rather, iOS) user experience I've been hearing about?? I mean, the Mac NEVER made me suffer like this.

So, back to my wife the iPad goes, and it gets summarily crossed off my list, right along with iPhones.

Not worth losing the customization, the back button, the headphone jack, or relearning how to do everything else.

Good to know. I guess I won't be in these forums for very long. :(

Although that'll make some of you happy, from what I read, but perhaps I can save at least some of you time...

What’s really tragic is that Google doesn’t offer their mail client on the iPad. You’d think this is something they could do. There’s not a product made that’s made for everyone, and if a product is not for you, it’s just not. :)

iOS mail app is garbage. Gave up on it when it would regularly white screen with just one email account requiring an inconvenient and time consuming DFU and backup restore to get it working again. Have since switched to Aqua Mail which is solid with three+ email accounts and has smart features like text-to-speech to announce new email headers so I don't have to pick the device to check.

I guess that I need to move away from the "it just works" muscle memory and treat iOS like Windows, where you can find an app to do things properly, but you have to dig for it.

But then all things become equal somewhat, and perhaps I'd be better of with a (more familiar) Samsung Android-based device or better yet, a Windows 2-in-one.

Man, I miss the days where I'd just pick Apple and GO.

Now I actually HAVE to do my homework!!!!
