Anyone noticed that the Studio doesn't seem to stay asleep? Whether put to sleep via the screen saver, the cursor in the sleep hotspot, or just selecting Sleep under the Apple menu, it looks like the machine wakes up on its own after a short while and lights up the monitors. I've turned off "Wake for Network Access" but that doesn't seem to solve the problem.

Maybe your mouse is talking to it.
As an experiment, disconnect the mouse & see what happens.
Using a bluetooth keyboard and trackpad, so it's possible one of those is active. I'll switch them both off. Same devices I had hooked up to my Mac Pro 6,1 though and this didn't happen.

I had the same problem with Mac Studio. Tried everything possible and finally found it: it’s the monitor’s hub that is connected via usb to Studio. When I took it off the Studio it went to sleep normally and stayed asleep Too. But if connected to usb a or usb c it doesn’t stay asleep. I decided to be without the monitor’s hub, at least for now.

Interesting, that could be it! My Mac Pro 6,1 used miniDP to DP cables to connect to from the Pro's TB2 ports to my Dell U2720Q monitors' DP-inputs. For the Studio, I used USB-C cables to connect from the Studio's TB4 ports to the Dells' USB-C inputs. So, it's possible that the monitors' hubs have some sort of USB chatter. I'll get a USB-C to DP cable and see if that fixes it. That said, I also have a USB hub, a TB4 hub and a bunch of USB devices connected, so hopefully it's not that any USB chatter wakes the computer up.

I was too early on this (see above). Mac Studio seems to wake up anyways after about about 5 minutes sleep (little later than before). Really strange. I also don’t have the ”wake from network…” on. I wouldn’t want to shut it down all the time..

That's unfortunate. I guess I'll try process of elimination on every connected item to see if it's an external device. Someone posted a similar issue on Reddit.

Interestingly this intermittently happens on my 2020 iMac. I choose Sleep from the Apple menu at the end of the day, and most of the time it works, but occasionally the system will wake again after a few seconds. Does it happen every time with the Studio?

Yes it happened every time. But thanks edanuff for the Reddit link! Someone there had similar problem and his solution was to shut down the Logitech MX Master bluetooth mouse. Well, I have Logitech MX Anywhere mouse and now it seems that was the real problem. The mouse must be shut down (from the bottom) immediately when Mac Studio is put to sleep - I tested for 40 minutes and it stayed asleep nicely! I even had the fore mentioned monitor hub connected. Haven't tested other mice yet.

Yep, I had the same issue with my 2017 iMac 5K and changing the MX Master 3 from Bluetooth to Unifier receiver fixed the issue for me.

I called Apple Support about this earlier this week. The engineer said they are aware of this issue and their team is working to release an update to correct it.

I am using Apple keyboard and Magic Mouse with my setup.

With this problem and the poor quality of the Studio Display regarding the FaceTime camera, I am not sure if it is worth it to keep these.

Interesting, I have a Logitech G915 TLK keyboard. Might be Logitech bluetooth as the common thread.

I’m having issues with my Studio staying asleep as well.

Sometimes it works but most of the time the monitor will immediately come back on. Other times the computer sleeps but I get no video output when the computer wakes up?

I’ve checked Activity Monitor but I can’t see any issues in there.

Had the same, it's fixed with Logi Option+ beta software no need to shutdown the mouse.

I have my MX Master 3 Keys and MX Master 3 mouse paired with a single Unifier receiver and it works great. No delay on the keyboard after reboot which is very annoying when paired over Bluetooth.

Happens on gen 1 M1 Mini as well- even with Apple keyboard and Magic Mouse (I suspect Bluetooth bug).

You can force sleep from one of the keyboard shortcuts:

Option–Command–Power button

Option–Command–Media Eject

Same issue here. Spent an hour this morning with Applecare. We collected data on it with and without peripherals connected And generated sysdiag file and uploaded. The first thing he asked was if 12.31 was installed. It was and no improvement. My system wakes and sleeps at approximately 5 min intervals. If I use my Macbook Pro 14 in at the same time it wakes and sleeps the studio about every min even though handoff, universal control and sharing all disabled. We collected data on that also. May be two different sleep problems. Wake for network disabled. Recommend someone try connecting wired mouse and keyboard and turn bluetooth off and see if sleep normal. I am unable to test that.

in my case I am getting dark wakes from sleep. The Dell 32 in monitor stays dark while my thunderbolt drive spins up. Then goes back to sleep in 30 secs.

Same on my Ultra. This is the only Mac I would not return within the 14 day period of buying. Its that good. Its kick ass good. I'm not sorry I got rid of my 2019 Mac Pro or the iMac Pro or the 2013 Mac Pro. The sleep issue does bother me because the Ultra gets warm to the touch. I've gotten around this by using screen saver to sleep the two displays. Check boxing to auto prevent sleeping the Ultra. This keeps the Ultra from getting warm to the touch. I do look to the future for a solution soon.

Unfortunately, the new Apple keyboards with Touch ID doesn't have a Power button or an Eject key (that was replaced by the Touch ID button). I miss the ability to sleep the computer from the keyboard.

I've noticed this, too. My monitor would keep coming back on. Sometimes right after it went dark. I also noticed my screen doesn't lock the way it should. For 2 days, my screen would not lock (and never prompted for a password). This morning, for the first time in that 2 day period, i woke up to a password prompt on my monitor. Fortunately, that's not a big deal for me. But has anyone else had this happen?

I'm using a magic keyboard and new magic trackpad 2.

Here definitively the same, very annoying indeed. Seems no help is available until now. Please Apple - fix this.

This doesn't necessarily have to be Apple's fault. See my message above. Find the apps/processes that prevent the Mac from sleeping with Activity Viewer (I posted how above).

For example, over a long period of time (4+ months), Google Chrome and Electron apps built on top of Chrome prevented the Mac from sleeping. This was maybe 2-3 years ago. Apps can go into a "wake lock" state that signals the OS they are still busy and prevents the OS from sleeping.

Use Activity Viewer to find out what is causing it.
