Thank you for the reply.

The Activity monitor shows three entries in "Prevent from Sleeping" column: Windowsserver, sharingd, powerd and bluetoothhd changing permanently. Nothing special there?

Most of the time a wakeup is caused, if I invoke a HomeKit command via Siri, especially with the Apple Watch.

Another reason for wakeup are changing Focus' automatically, f.e. "Sleep" at 1 p.m.

Besides - the the system.log of the Console shows the following entry every 10 minutes:
Apr 10 12:42:47 MacStudnMichael syslogd[340]: ASL Sender Statistics

Perhaps this had to do with the wakeup too???

Possible. I was hoping your Activity Viewer would show something more concrete.

Siri.... is it possible your Mac hears you when you talk to Siri on your watch? Try disabling Power Nap in the Energy Save power settings. Maybe that helps.

In Energy Saver on my M1 Mac Studio, I don't see "Power Nap" as on my old iMac. In the Siri prefs, the Studio Displays option of "listening to SIRI" is disabled.

Fire up Activity Viewer, go the CPU tab, and add the "Preventing Sleep" column. This will tell you which processes on your machine are preventing the Mac from sleeping.
I noticed this problem, but it's been hit & miss as to when it happens. I had no idea about this "preventing sleep" column in Activity Viewer, so this thread has been beneficial! I figured out it was Safari preventing sleep, but this little tip would have saved me a lot of time and grief. So thank you!

Still don’t get why you guys put your Macs to sleep. All my Macs, including my Mac Studio and 14” MBP M1 Pro have Preventing to Sleep checked since day 1. Same as I did with my 2011 iMac, 2014 13” MBP and 2017 iMac 5K. My Macs never go to sleep. I just set screen saver after 5 mins and monitor only to turn off after 20 mins. Also, no password required after display go off.

I guess some people are just more sensitive to preserving energy, keeping energy costs down and paying more attention to security than you do. People are different. Who would have thought.

windowserver, powerd, bluetoothd are the 3 that are preventing sleep on my computer. So yeah, it's an Apple issue. At least on my computer.

In my case updating the firmware in my Caldigit Elements Hub seemed to fix it.

I'm experiencing this too, the Mac Studio wakes up almost immediately after going to sleep. I tried turning off Bluetooth and it stayed asleep once, but I haven't tested it enough to know if that was the issue or if it was just random chance.

Especially with the new Studio Display, that consumes up to 30W. In Sleep Mode, the Display is powered down and the Mac is in low energy mode. So far I noticed, there is no big difference between "Off" and "Sleep Mode", so I shut down my Mac only when leaving my home for some days. Probably I should reconsider that? The startup uf the M1 Macs is rather fast - but the wakeup is almost immediately.

Unfortunately, the new Apple keyboards with Touch ID doesn't have a Power button or an Eject key (that was replaced by the Touch ID button). I miss the ability to sleep the computer from the keyboard.
You can perform the sleep action by using the Touch ID button, you need to press once to the click point of the button on the new black Keyboard with Touch ID, you will see a Secure Touch ID prompt, if you take no further action the screen will go black, followed by Mac Studio sleep.

Or you create a keyboard shortcut within the keyboard pane in prefs. Very easy but effective.

Although the differences (in power consumption) between "sleeping" and "awake, but idling" are greater on the Studio than they are on the Mini, they're still not that far apart.

I'd just set "display sleep" only, and let the Studio idle.
Or... just "reach forward" and turn off the display altogether. Pretty much what I do most of the time.

Nice try, but the Studio Display has no switch ON/OFF :)

When asleep, my Mac Studio and display draw about 4 watts. When awake and at idle, they draw about 30-35 watts. I also have a couple of USB hubs attached that are drawing a little bit of power when the Studio is asleep, so the actual Studio draw could be less than 4 watts. At any rate, that’s a pretty significant power drop when asleep, so there is a little bit of saving money and energy conservation to be had by sleeping the system when not in use.

"the Studio Display has no switch ON/OFF"

EGADS.
A monitor without ANY power switch?
Does this mean the only way to power it down is to pull the plug out of the wall?
What were they thinking...?

Obviously it powers down itself, if the connected Mac is set off or in Sleep Mode.

After a little more than a week using the new Mac Studio with Studio Display, I have to say that the permanent wakeups are really annoying. Looking closely at the behavior of the new machines, I find a wakeup happens so good as ever, if I do anything related to HomeKit on my Watch using Siri. HomeKit items like my Eve Door wake the Mac when used. Every morning when I first use my iPhone and the Mac is asleep, I get with guarantee a wakeup on the Mac. During the night w/o doing everything (except sleeping), the Mac wakes up in irregular intervalls but rather often.

I have the exact same USB and Thunderbolt items connected with the Mac Studio as I had for years with my late 2015 iMac 5K w/o any hassle. I hoped, that after some time of use, things go to normal as they often do, but here Apple has to iron out some serious bugs. That may hopefully happen quick. The only good thing: the Studio Display stays black most of the time and the Studio returns to sleep mode not ever but most of the time, too.

(Another thing OT that annoys me since some time now - after some days of normal use, screen shots loose their mini icons and turn to generic ones. No help until now - only the experience - I am not alone...)

I had the same issue when capturing a screen with my Logi MX Keys when pressing the dedicated capture screen key. Pressing shift + cmd + 3 did work so what I did was to enter into Logi Options and add shift + cmd + 3 to the dedicated capture screen key and now it's working showing the capture screen mini icons.

No change until now. I have been writing to the Apple Discussion Forum as well. There were some statements of Apple people here, but no - no help was to be found. For the moment I shut the Mac Studio down during the night.

Just following up to say that this was a fluke, it was only that one time that it stayed asleep for a while.

Even with Bluetooth off, frequent wake-ups remain and "ASL Sender Statistics" (whatever that is) remains being written to the system log in the console every 10 minutes or so. I would say the majority of the time that I walk back into the room after putting the Mac Studio to sleep earlier, it'll be on and the display will also be on at the lock screen.

So right now there is effectively no working Sleep mode on the Mac Studio. Workarounds include just putting the display to sleep instead, or shutting down the computer (which isn't that bad considering how fast the Mac Studio boots up).

That is strange. The only time my Studio Ultra has not been able to stay in sleep mode is when I had the magic keyboard, Magic Trackpad and MX3 mouse connected for charging. I don't know if it was one or all of those devices that caused it, but other than that, it stays in sleep mode as expected. Not sure why your's doesn't, I'd be annoyed if mine didn't function. Hope you are able to eventually resolve your issue.

Thanks, yeah I don't know what the deal is but I've done all I can do on my end, so either a future update will fix whatever is making it not stay asleep or it'll simply continue to be like this.

As an experiment, I tried also turning off wi-fi and unplugging everything (Ethernet and all USB/Thunderbolt devices, except for the Studio Display) and it still wakes from sleep constantly. It's also an out-of-the-box macOS installation and fresh new user, no Migration Assistant cruft or anything. So who knows.

Perhaps the whole fuzz is caused by the new Studio Display??? A FW update is promised, but 15.4 is still the last one. I am really curious about the development of this troubles.

(Has anyone tried to reset NVRAM?)
