Costco site has MS base on sale for $1500, and the M1 Ultra for $3200. Anyone have any info on why they are so steeply discounted?

I accidentally posted this in the wrong forum and cannot delete or move it. :(

No clue, but they are pretty good prices! I noticed a couple other different types of computers that were discounted just as much.

That's a really good price and it includes a longer (90 day) return policy as well as an additional year of warranty…the terms of those I'm not completely familiar with.

The cheapest on Appleinsider.com is about $1850 from some place called DataVision.

Costco membership is $60/year.

Looks like a very good deal, particularly with the Ultra if 1TB suits your needs (external storage will always be slower but may be fast enough depending on your use case)

I could see two reasons for the steep discounts:
1. Costco’s next earnings call is 5/25 and companies will often try to make some final sales to make certain targets (this sale happens to end on 5/14)
2. WWDC starts early June and there’s rumors about new hardware. It’s generally good to dump whatever the current gen is before the next gen hits to maximize profits.

They should be reporting for the quarter ending in February this month. So sales right now wouldn't affect the upcoming earnings report. Their fiscal year ends in August so it could affect forward guidance. I suspect that it has more to do with Apple's big falloff in Mac sales in Q1. I'd love to upgrade to an Ultra but I can't justify it. The Max is already more than I need.

Dang. Just checked Costco Canada and no sale price up here. If they had a similar sale, I’d get one instead of waiting for the second gen.

$500 off Apple's MSRP! Valid through 5/14/23.

Where do you see the valid through date? I don't see an end date on the page. I'm not a Costco member so perhaps that date is hidden?

It's a great deal. I'm able to purchase a refurb Mac Studio via work tax free. Even after paying for a $60 membership and taxes the Costco route is still $135 cheaper.

Good through 5/14 or while supplies last. Costco also has a 90 day return policy on computers.
They also claim a 2 year warranty on their computers, but check with customer service to validate that for this unit.

The additional year of warranty is not included with this item but is for the mac mini's.
I called Costco customer care and I was told that the 2nd year extra warranty applies to the Studio. The agent said that because lower down the page where it says:

"For COMPUTERS, TELEVISIONS and PROJECTORS, Costco extends the MANUFACTURER'S WARRANTY to two years from date of purchase. Please call Costco Concierge™ Technical Support @ 1-866-861-0450 for warranty assistance."

the extended warranty would apply.

Skeletor,
Oddly enough when I purchased my 2021 16" MBP the sales rep told me that Costco no longer was providing the second year of warranty on Apple computers.

I just called Concierge Services and they confirmed the 2nd year of warranty is still a Costco policy on computers. It was really nice to find out, albeit a year+ late into ownership, that I have another year of warranty.

Thanks for the posting the correction!

I have been trying to buy one since May 11. They have cancelled my order TWICE without explanation. It ends up that my membership was too new and not yet active even though I had received an email stating that I could make purchases immediately. I switched from my credit card to my debit but THEN the discount price wouldn't come up. (limit 2 Mac Studios per member) After a long "chat" I purchased at regular price & they will adjust the price AFTER shipping notification. But only after another "chat".

Why not just go into a store and buy one? They have the Ultra and the Max at my local store.

Yep, my plan was to go pick up the computer & membership cards at the same time. With all of this mess I went to get the cards but already had the 2nd online order in the pipeline. I figured that they would notify me if there was stock locally. I should have asked!

Can you still get the sale price? The sales looks over as of today.

That was part of the "chat", the gentleman gave me a reference number to use when I "chat" with another rep. He said that they can "adjust the price" once it is marked as "shipped". This new order is on my debit card so they will have to refund the difference. We'll see how it goes. If I get screwed, I will return it immediately, unopened.

I hate having to do that as you have to prove it every time you talk to someone about it.

I have to do that today with Comcast - something promised me didn't happen so I need to talk to someone else about it.

I noticed that early yesterday the M1 Ultra sold out. Now Costco have all their mac minis on sale. The M2 Pro base model is now $1100. Does anyone think that the $400 sales price difference, makes the mini a nicer deal than the $1500 Studio?

I'd prefer the Studio mainly because I'd have less to worry about in terms of additional applications that I may run in the future.

Well, it happened again! The third order was cancelled due to exceeding the order limit! It would be funny if it weren't so frustrating. Now there is a 4th order (at full price) that SHOULD be adjusted by credit to my Debit card. We shall see..........
