Thanks for your comments Crackbone. Those dislikes seem to be consistent with others, and like you, I think they are easily overlooked.

My case JUST SHIPPED from Provantage. (I ordered it this past weekend). Can't wait to get it.

just ordered mine from macmall they said they just got 45 in stock price was $41.00 with shipping

I was browsing for the case and one of my firefox plugins showed me this:
http://www.onsale.com/p/product~dpno~8058227~pdp.gaifbha;jsessionid=29252B552FC0EAC92033E692BC47DF3F
Have never order from the site but the price looks good.

I can vouch for this site. I ordered it yesterday.. most places are selling at retail.. they have it for 29.99!! ($20 off)

I got it for 29.99.. u DO pay for shipping, but cheapest shipping is like 5 bucks.
I paid 12 for OVERNIGHT and it arrived today. (i needed it to arrive before Thursday b/c i'm leaving out of town).

so total was 42 bucks.. still cheaper than most places even with overnight shipping.

They don't send out a shipping confirmation, but if u go to the site, and check order status it tells u a tracking number.

if i had time, i think 30 + 5 bucks shipping for regular ground shipping is a pretty sweet deal.

Okay, i've spent an evening with the case. Here's what I like and don't like.

Likes: The case seems to hold the iPad in place very well, it doesn't shift of move at all.

The case is extremely sturdy in typing and media mode. It does have a little "wobble" but nothing major. It holds the position well.

The case is very well constructed. I can see it loosening up a tad with use, again, nothing major. It appears it's going to hold up well.

Dislikes: As I suspected the strap can get annoying. Best thing to do when using the iPad , tuck the strap.

It's microfiber, so it tends to pick up dust and dirt on occasion. Although, it's much better in this regard than the Apple case.

Oddities : the case if not properly secured with the strap will not fully cover the iPad, as the OP stated. It fully covers the iPad if the strap is properly secured.

All in all, it's a keeper. It's not going back. IMO, it's the best case going for one that allows typing and media modes/stands.

Adster and Crackbone-
Thanks for the detailed posts (and amazing pictures adster)... almost to the level of the Gizmodo iphone 4 dissection/description!

One question I had-- does the case feel like it is cardboard or more like plastic inside the microfiber lining. In other words, if you bent the case, you think it would snap and break or just bend. Plastic would be stronger if the thing fell. Carboard would offer no protection to the glass screen in a fall and it won't hold up over time.

Thanks!

Amazing review. I have a question, does the way the iPad snaps into the corners suggest that they'll scratch the iPad?

I don't think they use cardboard.

Ill find out in 10 days when my iPad arrives, but do you think it could take a small drop and not snap out? based on how it's held in?

I'm debating whether to cancel my iPad case order...

mine should be here tomorrow morning :).

I'll answer any questions people have if they'd like me to. I'm just excited to finally have a case so I can walk outside with it and not bring a backpack to class.

Looks like Provantage is on backorder, so going with macmall instead.
$37.99 + $5.99 priority shipping.

I've taken the iPad out of the case on multiple occasions, i've not had any scratches or any marks on the iPad. YMMV however.

As a follow up, my previous comments stand.

To answer another question, I'm not sure what the material is, cardboard or plastic inserts. Of course the only way to be sure would be to cut it open. (someone else can be that guinea pig, not me :p)

Stitching seems to be great too. We will only know how this going to hold up over time, but early on I'm hopeful.

I ordered from Provantage on Monday for $32 plus $5 shipping, still hasn't shipped, yet the webpage said it was on special order and should ship in 3-5 days. I'm hoping by friday it will ship, but who knows.

This case seems to be very popular.

I ordered from MacMall yesterday and its in my hometown and out for delivery already..yayyy!!!! Too bad I sent my wifi back for a 3g unit :p

Ordered one from onsale.com for $40 2 day shipped. They said they expect to get them in stock on friday and will ship immediately. I used to order here years ago so I trust it more than some of those other ones listed above.

Wow. Just received mine from onsale (took 2 days!). So I guess their estimate of getting the shipment in on Friday was off. Make sure to call them before ordering.

Just bought one from onsale and canceled my Amazon order. Good price and they are in So. Cal. so I should have it tomorrow. Bing is giving 3-5% cashback (90 cents :)) for purchases from onsite so if you are doing the Bing cashback thing then be sure to go through the Bing website.

I called up Sureneeds and reordered from them since they have some in stock. They said it will ship today, out of Chicago, and I will have it on Tuesday next week...which is fine since I have a 3G iPad coming. Total was $39.89 shipped.
