My prediction has been that they will release a 13" Retina MacBook (not an Air), and then they would drop the price of the 12" Retina MacBook to US$999 with a new cut down 128 GB model. The Air would then just get discontinued.

So, unless they surprise me and release an ARM Apple A12 Bionic based 13" MacBook, all the MacBooks would remain dual-core Intel Y series.

That makes sense to me. There’s no way they can introduce a 13” retina laptop thats cheaper than their 12” MacBook and lighter than the 13” nTBMBP without killing off both those models.

The 12” MacBook has paid off its R&D by now so could have its price dropped, and a whimpy 128GB model introduced to drop it further.

Bumping up to a 13” MacBook with an extra port and similar form factor then gives a new way to maintain the high margins on the machine most people will lust after.

It’s possible that they kill off the none Touch Bar MacBook Pro, it wasn’t updated when the other Touch Bar versions got an update in July this year. Maybe Apple will replace both the 12” MacBook and the none Touch Bar MacBook Pro with one new 13” MacBook that has Touch ID and a Retina display.

I dont think a 13” touchid retina mac can be set lower in price than current 12” base macbook,or how many expected at 999$

I think I read somewhere here that a possible reason why the nTB model would not get updated is that the corresponding CPUs were not updated by Intel either (someone who follows CPUs more than I do may confirm, or invalidate). Either way, this is not a guarantee that this model would get updated soon either...

I sold my 2013 MacBook Air for $400 a week before the iPhone event. For sure they would update the computers. Then I was like ok well they will just do it on a Tuesday a random one as a chip update to the air,MB or MB pro 13 isn’t enough for a show even with a price drop.

Got tired of waiting and got a 13 inch Mb pro 2017 model for $850. :) love it.

Tho 128gb and 8gb of ram for a $1,300 computer that has been out for 460+ days is kind of highway robbery. This is basically my MacBook Air with a retina screen + a new chip.

Fact Apple thinks it’s ok to sell a non retina, 128 gb SSD, with 8 of ram same as what the 2012 Air? 6 years later and then go can’t sell for under 1,000 is kind of a dbag move

Where did you find that deal?

Facebook my wife is part of a mommy group. Honestly buy everything off there now. Get ton of brand new things for 50% off. Tho she “buys” the items then sends me to get them haha.

It is less creepy then craigslist and it’s people who just want stuff gone. On Craigslist people are like I bought this MacBook Pro for $3k 10 years ago I want 2k!!!

Not a very convincing rumour. You can still order various models of the MacBook Air for Oct. 25 delivery (although it would be foolish to do so at this point).

I think they are pointing to the fact that a school has tried to do this via Apple rather than a consumer going online. It’s more interesting apples response to it saying that the Air is delayed until the 30th, would be interesting to see if any new Mac’s ship that day.

Before Apple stopped caring about macs wasn’t the difference between the Air and Pro only the screen + graphic cards?

Maybe even ram to justify a $300 diff

And the Air was thinner, I think it was aimed more at students and the average consumer. Apple are missing that market again, the average consumer and students don’t need Pro machines (unless of course they are studying thing and that do need more power). Having a new Air or MacBook at a cheaper price point would fill that gap.

MacBook isn’t that much smaller then the pro and way weaker.

Just sell the pro withbiut the Touch Bar for the price of the MB

Drop the MacBook to 999

If you are going to not make the air retina the just use last years chip and make it $699 or 799. Boom that’s your budget computer. A iPad is not a budget computer no matter how hard Apple market it that way

I truly don't believe that it's Apple's style to use last years chips on a brand new design.
In all fairness, whilst I'll always need a MacBook for my lifestyle/business/needs, I do know of some older people who have replaced their horrible Windows computers that were stuck in spare bedrooms with an iPad and they are loving the versatility of it :) I also have friends that do not own computers at home and do everything on their iPhone with iCloud etc - and these are guys in their early 20s!!! So I can see where Apple are coming from with the iPad argument - Macs for power users, creatives, students, writers, business etc and iPad for general users I guess :)

The argument is what if you are both? by that i mean what if you're someone like me that fits into the camp of a creative/writer but also someone who has general usage? at the moment i own both an iPad Pro 12.9" and an iMac, i did own a 2011 MacBook Pro until it died on me, the annoying thing is that Apple seem to want people like myself to buy 2 devices, the iPad Pro for general consumption and tasks such as drawing, annotating and so on, while the Mac is used for more creative tasks such as writing. The point i'm making is that there is an argument for Apple to make a hybrid style device that can do both.

I'm not saying that i'm completely against owning 2 devices, BUT it sure would be nice to have something that can do both instead of having to carry around a Mac and an iPad Pro. Both devices work great, i love my iPad Pro and i love the Mac, i just think Apple need to either make the iPad Pro more productive OR they need to make the Mac a little more like the iPad.

Apple have argued that they've never make a hybrid as it's a compromise and being honest a hybrid is - certainly a hybrid bicycle is neither a great mountain bike or a great road bike - it's an average 'thing' and Apple don't do that, never have and never ever will.
This is exactly why Apple set up iCloud to allow a handshake between the iPad Pro to the McBook Pro to the iMac I guess. IMO a hybrid laptop thing would be truly horrendous. The iPad Pro does creative drawing etc perfectly and the MacBook / Pro is the Digital Media Hub - in reality an iMac / desktop is not needed for many including myself as I simply could not be chained down to a desk. I'll let you into a secret - I spend only 4 months a year at home and with my MacBook, I have the luxury of working from the comfort of my bed in a morning whilst sipping my espresso - in the late evening when I hit USA / Aus times after the gym (for which i'm energised and inspired), I'm relaxed on my sofa, again representing my clients either FaceTiming with them, editing 4K 60fps video in FCPX or writing blogs / sponsorship letters / editorials :) :) :) The beauty of a MacBook :)

A hybrid would be a good device ONLY with dual boot ios and macos
If not that device is compromised

Could you actually fit a 13” screen in the current MB body? Just curious.

So they announced the 13.3" Macbook
Apple can call it whatever, but its more a macbook than macbook air
