When you compare the cost of a Dell and factor in the additional software, memory, and other extras you have to buy to go along with it, the difference in price between the MacBook and the Dell isn’t as great as most people believe.
Swap Dell for Apple in the above sentence. The Dell comes with 4gb of ram as opposed to 2 in the macbook, and you don't have to buy silly mini displayport accessories.

Incase you haven't noticed, you aren't at Dell rumors, nearly everyone here is obsessed with Macs and will recommend a Mac even if you were asking which is better, a Dell XPS (2009) or a PowerBook G3 (1999).

Anyway, if you are looking for a gaming computer in a notebook, don't go for anything lower than the 9600 GT. 9400 is definitely not made for gamers, it isn't dedicated.

LOL

Yeah but seriously, i would recommend the Powerbook G3 (1999) over the dell....

I have a high end Dell quad CPU Desktop that I use for a lot of stuff and have owned other Dell systems in the past. This is my first Mac and I have got to say that I wouldn't trade my Macbook for a PC (be it a Dell, Lenovo, HP, etc). The track pad and gestures totally rocks. The hardware is rock solid and the operating system is awesome. Did I mention the Track Pad? :)

I am a gadget collector of sorts and have a Dell, an HP, an Asus, an Acer, a Sony Vaio, an IBM Thinkpad, and probably quite a few other machines that I can't remember. Of them all, I prefer my Macbook for normal everyday use. Just can't compare to the glasspad and multitouch gestures.

But for gaming I don't use my Macbook. I don't even understand why people game on MBP machines. I game exclusively on either my PS3 console, my Xbox 360, or my PC desktop. The performance just can't be matched.

I use the best tool for the job. I'm not a fanboy of any of them.

Which machine has better hardware?

After you consider that, consider the price difference with the upgrades you'll want to get when ordering.

Consider tax in the pricing as well (if you order from Apple), because usually if you live in a major state, you're going to get charged tax.

Consider the usability between OS X and Vista.

Consider the design and build quality.

Also, food for thought:
I don't really wanna look that specific Dell laptop up. Call me lazy, but it's rude to ask people to compare unfamiliar products without a link or something detailing the specs and pricing.

Which machine has better hardware?

You're joking right? You do realize that there are far better machines available with nehalem CPU chips (Intel i7 versus the Core 2 you have in your Apple machine) and vastly superior graphics chips (Nvidia GTX 295 versus the dinky little 9600GT which isn't even in the same ballpark of performance).

I'm not saying most people even need that kind of performance, and for most people I think a Macbook or a MBP will do just fine, but the best hardware is not Apple's hardware. At the high end it's PC hardware.

Get the Dell.

My wife has the XPS, and I have the aluminum macbook. If I could go back in time, I would have gotten hers. Its got much nicer features and stats for less money, plus way more customizable then any apple computer will ever be.

The performance of 2GB of RAM in the MacBooks more than equal the performance values you will see from 4GB in a Dell. Windows is known for consuming RAM to the point of not being able to distinguish the difference between 2GB and 4GB after you upgrade! As for connections, the new Display Port is a fantastic technology (great bandwidth, small connector). I hoping that such a great digital cable format will catch on in the mainstream. HDMI is not all it is cracked up to be.

ye but hdmi is backed by so many companies.
and its mainstream with all tvs, blu ray, ps3, even monitors.
so its basically the winner.
apple knows its good but they are too cheap to pay the royalties to put it on the macbooks.

Whatever you decide to do, wait at least for the reviews to come in for the machines you are considering. There are quite a lot of reviews out about the Macbook by now, but there currently is no review for the XPS 1340. I recommend www.notebookreview.com as the site is fairly balanced with about as many people that love Apple as hate Apple and as many people who hate Dell as love it too. So you get to see both sides instead of just one fanboy side.

i was completely secured of buying the macbook... but today when i was browsing the net i saw the new dell laptops. the only thing i care is what is the difference between the 9500 and 9400. which one is better... which one outpermors or performs better...

please answerr....
i want everyones opinion...

also if there are other important reasons which one of them is better than the other... please just let me know...:apple:

It's not really a simple question, because it comes down to more than just specs. Do you like OS X or Windows? Obviously with a Mac you can run both, but really the attraction to buying a Mac is two things; the style of the Mac, and OS X.

I've actually got a Dell 700m now, and the fit and finish is decent, and it's a great little laptop. We've also got quite a few M60's (older workstation class) and those are garbage, quality-wise.

I still think MacBooks (at least the unibody models) are a cut above pretty much any Windows notebook, and that's comparing it to Thinkpads, HP business laptops, and the Dells.

my last pc before the switch to mac was a dell xps m1330.
they are great computers, but no where near the quality of the macbook. dells use cheap thin plastics (my hinge cracked) and the bloody xps logo kept on coming unstuck. They also have many problems with hardware, which is forgiving because the xps customer service is the best ive seen in all my life (they come you your house to fix it in 1-3 days for free with warranty).

i suggest getting a macbook. unless the new studio xps 13 is significantly better than that of the m1330 (which i doubt). let me tell you one last thing; if you buy the dell, you will be worried whenever you take it around. only a few bumps here and there will almost certainly be a problem. (my old xps had to replace the lcd and mainboard) with the macbook, you feel secure and you just know it will be more forgiving..

Apple doesn't make any of the internal components of their computers. They're likely manufactured in the same factories as Dell's, and even if they aren't, they'll be manufactured to the same standard at least.

I don't know if you actually looked at the new computer, but in terms of design and materials, this is a huge step up from the m1330, which is a very old design.

I do challenge you to try bumping your MacBook around a lot - I bet the Dell's plastic exterior takes the strain a LOT better than the aluminium MacBook, which will just dent.
