thanks for all responses; I'm surprised so many people love this keyboard, to each his own I guess.
that was the case for me as well, defective keyboard and an apple that's also a lemon.Today I received a MacBook Retina from Apple.
It's a great machine. But three keys (f, m and 7) only barely work. You have to press them exactly in the middle otherwise no input will be recorded.
That is not acceptable for me and the Mac will be returned for a refund.![]()
I use it for both and really enjoy itIt's fine in both scenarios. It has a stable base and large palmrests. One the couch the lack of damping behind the keyboard is probably a bit less apparent.
the bad: the keyboard: I read a lot about the butterfly keyboard. tried it at the apple store. didn't like it, but was confident I'll get used to it, so bought the machine last week.
I hope people are not disappointed when the new macbook pro have the same keyboard. After all this is the future of computers as apple has pointed. out.
No, it's just all about that keyboard. I could live with it when all the keys worked perfectly. I guess there's too little manufacturing tolerance allowed this new design. I also have durability concerns. So I will wait for the next iteration.I'm not sure why you wouldn't just get it replaced/repaired. Or is there some other reason you've discovered it doesn't fit your needs?

That's completely opposite of my experience. This is my favorite keyboard in all of the laptops I've ever owned. I bought the MB because of the keyboard. I type faster and more accurately with it than my MBA. The low travel is one of my favorite features because it is less response time than the mushy MBA. Feels more precise. Obviously, just my opinion.
Sorry, but you musta got a lemon, mine has had zero issues. It's been exactly what I expected it to be. Never had the flashing folder issue. Further proof yours was a lemon.
As a touch typist (with all my fingers) who is happy with the rMB keyboard, I call BS.It's a keyboard for two finger tappers, not for people who can actually type.
Way to be arrogant and condescending about something that isn't even true. Good jobIt's a keyboard for two finger tappers, not for people who can actually type.
The keyboard is a dog. It's not just hard to type on and prone to frequent errors, it makes my fingers hurt. It's a keyboard for two finger tappers, not for people who can actually type.

It's perfectly fine if the keyboard isn't suitable for you, but don't be so myopic as to make such such a patently bogus claim. That smacks of the poor workman blaming his tools.
I have the rMB (2015) and this is indeed the worst thing about it. I never got used to it. Also to me, either I hammer the keys, or sometimes a keystroke is not registered. I recently got Apple Smart Keyboard for the iPad Pro, and I much prefer that, even if the keys are more like rubber!the bad: the keyboard: I read a lot about the butterfly keyboard. tried it at the apple store. didn't like it, but was confident I'll get used to it, so bought the machine last week.
