Slightly better but we need to wait for numbers from Cinebench. Im curios for how long the 7W processor can handle it's boost

It's probably going to depend on what you're doing, this new Air isn't intended as a power house. Most people will probably be fine with the new Air, adding the 16GB Ram will probably help as well. Personally i just need a new Mac for long writing sessions, web browsing, email, iTunes/TV Shows and movies, Netflix, some editing in Photo's app, Final Draft and so on. I also have a 2017 iPad Pro that i use for more intense photo editing with apps such as Pixelmator and i do use a 2012 iMac my main desktop, granted its an old machine but it still runs fine and will probably last until i upgrade either next year or when Apple decide to do a redesign.

I think most people who buy the Air are students, teachers and people who generally don't need a lot of power but do want/need more battery life, the new Air delivers that with the 12 hours for wireless web and 13 for video playback.

We will have to wait and see what this new Air benchmarks at, i remember when the 12" MacBook came out and people were complaining about its processor and were just generally down on it, that turned out to be a good machine for those who wanted it, there were even videos of people editing in 4K on it. In this case i will receive judgement until bench marks and reviews start to drop :)

Definitely, we should wait for benchmarks. Of course, nobody is going to seek a powerhouse in an MBA purchase. Just wanted to pointed out that comparing MBA with MBA (older models vs the new one) it is the first time that a low power cpu is used. This shifts a bit the balance between power/portability that the MBA was mostly famous for.

I’m not sure how this new Air will stack up against the old Air. Saying that tho I’ve seen the reported benchmarks for the new iPad Pro, wow is that thing fast, it’s even said to be as fast as the 2018 MacBook Pro, if true that is just madness for a tablet!

But I still like to use MacOS and as much as i love my iPad for Pixelmator, Netflix, YouTube and so on I still end up using a Mac as well.

Too bad that Apple didn't want to put BT 5.0 and they kep BT4.2 as the 12" Macbook

The first unboxing of the new Air :) I think she’s the first to have an unboxing!

poor unboxing, no benchmarks, where is "unscrewing" the bottom case ?
I wasted few minutes for this boring video, this person doesn't have clue how to do proper unboxing

It’s an unboxing it doesn’t need benchmarks! The name is literally in the title.

This article from AppleInsider mentions that the new Air is capable of supporting an external display of 5K, don’t know if that says anything about the power, I just thought it was interesting.

“the new MacBook Air can support one external display with 5120 x 2880 resolution at up to 60Hz or to two external displays with 4096 x 2304 resolution at up to 60Hz over Thunderbolt 3.”

Interesting. Technically, the MacBook Air is actually thicker than the MacBook Pro.

Doesn’t say much about the power, just that it has Thunderbolt 3.

Which is more powerful? This MacBook Air or MacBook Pro without Touchbar?

the pro is more powerful in both cpu and gpu performance

https://forums.macrumors.com/thread...ns-over-2017-macbook-air-and-macbook.2151738/

the new air is barely faster than the 2017 one with respect to cpu performance and might be even slower gpu wise (while adding certain features such as hardware HEVC support)

You mean like comparing IOS and MacOS benchmarks?

each and every Ax cpu since the iPad Air 2 has been said to have "desktop class performance", then nothing ever came of it

since the A8x it is the same with each iteration

while the A12x certainly is impressive and while I think we eventually will see A cpu powered Macs, there certainly is a reason as to why we are not there yet and this may not only be software related

MacBook Pro without Touchbar but both are „only“ dualcore. And the MacBook Pro without Touchbar has only 2nd Gen Butterfly Keyboard so I wouldnt buy it
MacBook Air 2018 hasn't too 2nd Gen Butterfly keyboard? And the SSD in MBP 2017 can be replaced no?

It is just me or the new Air is the first mac along side 12" MB with 16:10 aspect ratio ?
