Interesting, so I guess 1080p video will have no problem. I think this will work great for my work flow, which doesn’t include video editing, just Pixelmator and long writing sessions, Netflix, YouTube, web browsing, email and so on. If most of the reviews stack up like this I will be ordering the new Air!

Well honestly that Video doesnt give much info other than the processing time is nearly double the one from the pro. But one could assume that due the double the core count, single core performance under sustained load should be closer to the advertised boost clock than to the base. Fingers crossed

He did say during the video that when editing in Final Cut he uses the "Better performance" quality setting but he had no issues with the new Macbook Air. It will be interesting to see what other people have to say and what reviews are like when they drop.

I’m not sure how this new Air will stack up against the old Air. Saying that tho I’ve seen the reported benchmarks for the new iPad Pro, wow is that thing fast, it’s even said to be as fast as the 2018 MacBook Pro, if true that is just madness for a tablet!

But I still like to use MacOS and as much as i love my iPad for Pixelmator, Netflix, YouTube and so on I still end up using a Mac as well.

The new iPad is indeed that fast, at least as far as geekbench goes. However, a laptop can perform better in many more areas, for much longer periods of time, so they are not realistically comparable. Impressive nonetheless.

so based on those 2 videos...the MBA for light usage and FCP has a very good price vs the 13" tb MBP
The 13" nTB it shouldnt be bought, 2nd gen keyboard and not so much of perf diff in light usage and short-med FCX editing. So based on your work and your budget, you go MBA or 13" tb MBP

Based on iJustines video it will suit me very well, it showed Final Cut Pro X working no problem even with the 4K footage she was using :) i won't be doing that, the most i will use is Pixelmator Pro for some photo editing.

Going to put my order in soon, only thing i haven't decided on is if i should get the Gold or Space grey, more importantly if i should stick with 8GB Ram or upgrade it to 16GB?

Wow these reviews are useless....

I understand iJustince’s being useless as she only had it for one day and apple gave it to her basically just to show off how pretty the laptop is (which she did well).

But the verge? Those guys had it for days and were supposed to review it...

“I don’t have a precise battery life figure” and “we’ll have real benchmarks and see if it throttle under load at a later time”.

What the hell have they been doing? Those are the only two things that matter about this laptop. Everything else has been clear since the announcement.

iJustine said in the video that she's only had it for one day so far, when she's done more thing with it she will do a follow up video, as for being useless i don't know what video you were watching but towards the end she did open up Final Cut Pro and was talking about how she can edit 4K footage, even showing herself doing it. Not as in-depth as some other reviewers at this point but no doubt she will do a follow up video. iJustine is great tho :)

As I said, I think her's is justified as she only had it for one day, but the verge's is not :)

I still think it's useless, because neither open the two most important questions:
  1. Is the battery life really significantly better than the ntb-MBP?
  2. Is the performance under load good?

After reading a few more reviews it seems like Apple disappoints on both fronts.

This is the benchmarks for my early 2015 13" rMBP with a 2.9ghz dual core i5 and 8gb 1866mhz Ram.

Whilst I appreciate my MBP was a Pro machine and has nearly double the clock speed, it is also 3yrs older! So I would just be paying around £1200 to change the colour, get TouchID, TB3 and a thinner machine.

Looks like I'll be switching to a 13" MBP instead.

Shame really as I liked the idea of the MBA.

There is something wrong with that Cinebench score at 220 for the Air. For example, my 2017 Core m3 MacBook scores 20% higher in Cinebench at 265.

Who's? Mine or the MBA? I just took screenshots from AI's video review.

Edit - re-read and saw you said about your score.

Not sure why it is low but it wouldn't surprise me given it's a 7w CPU

I agree, the MBA doesn't look attractive anymore after the reviews...

I was 98% certain I would buy it for my gf. I was happy to accept a lower CPU and GPU performance in order to get significantly longer battery life, but laptopmag measured 9:30h in its wifi test.

The 2017 ntb-MBP was able to get 11:30h in the notebookcheck review, has a significantly brighter screen, better CPU and GPU performance. The only downside is the 2nd gen keyboard, but it looks like the third one hasn't actually really solved the issue. And the 2017 MBP is covered by the program, so there is at least some certainty with it, whereas the 3rd one is not.

I purchased the refurb 512GB / 16GB version for $1,609.00-- a full 10% and $190 cheaper...

Yes I edited my post. To further explain: My Core m3-7Y32 is fanless and all specs are lower than the i5-8210Y CPU in the Air, yet scores 20% higher in Cinebench.

If that Cinebench Score is true, Ill pass. My current Macbook Pro 13'' from 2013 scores higher....

Edit:

Macworld reports far better results
