would be surprised if they dilute the Apple Watch announcement with new Laptops...
Me too.

They could, of course, announce on the same day without making it a big part of the Keynote but I doubt that too. USB 3.1 connectivity and a new form factor might make it "revolutionary" enough to warrant it having its own (separate) release date, without the watch taking away media attention and coverage.

If a person is focused on comparing displays, then that is an important observation. But for actually using one, not so much.

I continue to be puzzled by the hyperbole surrounding the non-retina display of the MBA. Words like, "horrid", "absolute garbage", "junk", "worthless","pixelated mess".

Yup, the hype of Retina has worked almost too well for Apple here!

Nah, what they will do is start off with the Mac updates as an appetiser, and that will lead into Yosemite 10.10.3 with a walkthrough of Photos, and then finish with the main course Apple Watch presentation. Dessert for the evening will be the hands on with the Apple Watch afterwards.

Interesting. Where on Apple's page does it mention that it's a 3-year-old processor? Where does it list it as being Core i5 (i5-3210M)?

Where does it list 'last updated: June 2012'? Yeah, strange about that.

If you've worked in the computer industry selling Macs, or do support on Macs, or even work in retail selling Macs/PCs, you'd know just how much of a ballache this 13" MacBook Pro is.

Yes, you're very clever for researching all the specifications before you buy something. But this is Apple - and to even pretend that they'll list the specifications as you'd expect is ludicrous. They don't publish the full specs. They give out the 'we're perfect' KoolAid, the 'we only make products we'd use ourselves', the 'you pay for quality - we use the best and latest technology': the 'we'll make your decisions for you', the 'we don't ship junk' - then you criticise when people drink it, because according to you, they didn't do their research?

You're being an Apple apologist, yet you're not apologising for when their smug mentality deceives consumers. This sort of thing is part of the reason Apple users get a bad rap.

Ok well if you can't be bothered to do a moment's worth of research for a major purchase, try scrolling down the page for like a second and you'll see a large and clear comparison between the two MBPs.

Retina:

"MacBook Pro with Retina display features over 4 million pixels in the 13-inch model and over 5 million in the 15-inch model, fast flash storage, powerful fourth-generation Intel Core processors, high-performance graphics, and up to 9 hours of battery life. And it comes with an incredible collection of productivity and creativity apps. All in a design that’s still as thin and light as ever."

Non-Retina:

"The 13-inch MacBook Pro is powered by a dual-core Intel Core i5 processor with Intel HD Graphics 4000. It features Thunderbolt, USB 3, Gigabit Ethernet, an SDXC card slot, and an optical drive. And it comes with an incredible collection of productivity and creativity apps."

Note the use of the words "fast", "powerful" and "high-performance" in the Retina description that are all lacking in the non-Retina. It doesn't matter what year it was last updated. They're making it very clear here that one is much more powerful than the other.

I'm not an apologist, as you have said my objection to your complaint makes me. I'm a realist. If you want to blame Apple for the decisions someone else made, I don't know what that makes you but I honestly think you're misplacing your umbrage here.

13" rMBP with quad core CPU, here I come !

You will be disappointed if you are hoping for quad core.

I don't even know why you are looking for quadccore these broad well dualcores will out perform most mobile quadccore processors available today.

What the heck does "balllache" mean? Looked it up. No such word.

You probably looked it up with the extra "l", that's why you did not find it ;)
Look better, it's right there! :D
Jokes aside, I've never heard that word either...

Yup, the hype of Retina has worked almost too well for Apple here!
Not a hype, its 4x the pixel count. How could you not want it? Everybody must be blind for not seeing the stark difference between Retina and Non-Retina. I mean, if your salary would quadruple you would realize it, would you!

I wonder how many new € 30,- adaptors one will need with the upcoming redesign. Anyone heard any rumors? 2, maybe even 3? I just can't wait. I love buying adaptors. It makes a notebook so much more portable if you need a couple of adaptors for it too. Anyone has any elevator pics of new adaptors? I just hope I can spend at least € 150,- on adaptors. Adaptors just make me feel cool. Bring it on :apple: gimme my adaptors now!

I guess they're confirmed for a refresh. So, what have we got:

Likely:
  • Apple Watch Pricing, Release
  • MacBook refreshes

Possible
  • iPad Pro
  • New Apple TV

Unlikely
  • iPad Mini 4
  • New iPods

This is going to be a good event :D

Oh, but I do, badly. But while I wait, my 2011 11" maxed BTO Air is the absolute best laptop I have ever owned. Still a joy to use 4 years later on 10.10.2. The screen isn't a pixelated mess, nor is it remotely unusable. Its just not as good as the Retina screens.

Does anyone know if Best Buy will have the MacBooks refresh the same day as Apple stores do and will they carry all the different variations?

Thanks!
Excited for the Event!

One annoyance with this: Why not upgrade the RAM by default to 8/16G for the Air's??? It seems like the ultraportable market is becoming very competitive. The least they can do is be competitive in RAM sizes. Its a silly thing to skimp out considering how cost-effective it is to do it.

The only real advantage Broadwell has over Haswell besides some battery life is GPU, and it can only really take advantage of it with more RAM. The same users who haven't updated yet still won't.

And I doubt Apple doesn't know its affecting sales. Most popular reviews up on Amazon regarding the Air complain about RAM and how an upgrade is overdue...and this is now last year's model.

Just don't get it. I could excuse it back when RAM was user replaceable, but its no longer the case. Guess it just makes too much sense for Apple to be reasonable.

*sigh* welp I have absolutely no reason to return my newly purchased Macbook Air at $780. RAM would be worth it, but Broadwell isn't even worth $50, let alone $120.

"Powerful" is relative. Its actually less "powerful" since its pushing more pixels on the display. 13" Air's and Pro's bench pretty similarly because of the pixel bump of the display. Many users complain its laggy because of it.

Owning a 11" Air. Screen does not seem low res one bit. Colors are crisp, and cause very little eye strain. Don't see the need for a Retina. Laptops are placed relatively far from the face, unlike a phone. Doesn't require huge pixel density to be clear.

Its marketing hype, pure and simple. My old Macbook's display was perfectly fine as well. My only complaint was the glare, which had more to do with the coating fading over the years.

Want to see cruddy displays? Use a Chromebook or low end Windows Laptop. And even those are more than usable for regular tasks and watching videos (not talking about those **** 15" low res displays packed into $300 Win laptops...they're beyond awful)

I would say Apple Watch almost a certainty, MacBooks maybe, iPad Pro, Apple TV, iPad Mini 4 and new iPads very unlikely.

I bought my early 2011 MBP at Best Buy. It was either release day or the day after, so I think that other retailers do get them fairly quickly.

They "diluted" other product announcements with more than one product. Let's say they plan on an hour. 10 minutes for updates, 10 minutes for laptop updates and then 40 minutes for the watch. Seems perfectly reasonable.

Put it like this: the specs are there for people to figure out that it is 2012 technology if you know enough about Intel chips. The HD4000 is the give-away.

Interesting sheep behaviour...

Interesting defense of outdated technology... like when Apple waited YEARS after USB 3.0 was an industry standard. Why would you defend not keeping up? Ever think you're the reason Apple doesn't innovate anymore?
