Hey guys, I'm new to the forum. Quick question. I ordered a 13 inch MacBook Pro retina with 256 gb of storage 6 days ago. It hasn't came in yet, but should be coming any day. Is it worth it for me to upgrade? And how do I go about returning this one since I ordered it online?

Honestly, it wouldn't hurt to return for the new model.

If you bought it through the Apple Online Store, just call Apple and set up a return, then buy the new model.

The 12" looks great. Too bad they didn't make a 14" with the same design... 12" is quite small.

Wonder how the new keyboard feels. Metal domes tend to be quite snappy.

How much faster will the new processors be in the MBA?

Currently deciding between the MBA and the 13" MBP. I'm gonna be using this for dental school, so portability is definitely a priority however, I like the option of the processing power in the MBP.

Uses: Web browsing with a lot of tabs open while word processing, and some dental programs that are probably similar to the demand photoshop would have.

Or would it be wiser to wait for a full-on refresh of the MBP?

If I bought my MBPr via an online store, can I swap it out at the Apple store? It just arrived today, so it's unopened.

RIP 15" rMBP. If Apple actually updates the 15", I don't expect discrete graphics to be an option since they are ALL OVER miniaturization....

But I do get that there are no quad-core Broadwell chips for the 15" yet. Still, I feel like Apple's very slowly leaving their pro lineup (starting with the 17") for dead.

They can't leave too dead.. You gotta build Apps on them for all the platforms.

I did buy the 13" pro. Is it even possible to just return it? Wasn't even aware of that.

Yes. Do it now. You have either 14 or 30 days, can't remember.

Still, this means the top-of-the-line MacBook Pro doesn't have Force Touch, but the smaller one does.

There would be no point "upgrading" the 15" with the same old processor. Force Touch is not enough of an upgrade to justify it. Skylake will be a much bigger improvement than Broadwell anyway.

The new 2015 13" rMBP is the way to go. It has the new Intel, actual ports, magsafe, higher retina screen and better processor.

This new MacBook should be $799-999.

Does anyone have an idea of how long it usually takes Apple's retail stores to get stock on newly updated MacBook Pros? I just bought a 13" Pro on Saturday (I know, I know: silly move).

I get the feeling both the 13" and 15" MacBook Pros are going to get a FULL update by the end of the year. Kinda like they did with the iPad 3 and 4.

I might consider the 12" but that single port worries me. How do you charge AND work with a peripheral when required? Why not add one more port? Hmmm...

In the presence of tıday's revealings, I now predict:

1) This 13" rMBP refresh (now using dual-core Broadwell) will last for about a year.
2) The 15" rMBP refresh will be introduced later onwards during the course of 2015, as and when quad-core Broadwells will be available.
3) 2016 will naturally (and hopefully) see the Skylakes in the MBP line, very possibly in totally redesigned chassis & case (i.e. the footprint will change...)
4) But I am expecting a 17" model (with Skylake) to be re-incarnated in 2016.
5) I still retain my gut feel that a Skylake based 13" rMBP may not be given birth in favour of a 14" rMBA with Skylake in a similar footprint of today's 12" rMBA.
6) Your worries about that single USB-C port: No sweat--Apple's planning to sell you a $ 150 (or more) hub which you can connect USB 3.0 flash drives, Thunderbolt and HDMI, etc. etc. But before doing so, they've gotta bring forward a USB3.0 to USB3.1 (=USB C) adapter...

Take care...

does the lack of thunderbolt port on the new macbook describe the end of the thunderbolt display? Or even thunderbolt as technology?

I was still hoping for a display so I can connect all the stuff 1 drive, a few USB dongles, ... ) to one cable and have a nice big screen for photo work.

I can bet my bottom dollar that we'll see the 14" mate of today's 12" rMBA with Skylake (and of course the retina screen...). The 11" & 13" MBAs (with non-retina screens and very current Broadwell) will die by 2016.

In Portugal (and other countries as well) it seems that it has been an update for the rMBP 15.. but only in price! No hardware update..
From 2049€ yesterday to 2299€ today!
What am I seeing wrong?? Is it me?

Typical price conversation adjustments.

They couldn't be bothered with improving the 15" battery life or giving it the new haptic trackpad?????

Right, but judging from the, uh, rather unpredictable Broadwell launch dates, they either know something we don't, or we won't have new 15-inchers for quite a while.

(Not that I care much; mine is from early last year, so it's not like I'm upgrading any time soon, especially when there's no 32 GB option.)

*duh* - batterylife improves mostly when NEW cpu's are available. Intel hasn't released them for the 15" yet... Read the thread!

Yes sir....Might be a few days before the new ones are in stock, but it's worth it.
